Found some pictures of the cards. Definitely looks like new card art, however slight.

Hmm, never heard of Combat Cards, but card games are always fun! Shame they use pictures of models and not proper artwork though, that feels a little lazy and boring to me.

It's basically Top Trumps. GW themed Top Trumps.

There's a card for Bloodbowl, one for Shadespire, and a load for Warhammer Quest.

GW has a history of putting out limited edition rules that have in game impact. I don't think anyone here has overreacted.

Erm, you out right stated you weren't going to buy into Shadespire based on one card given away for free in a magazine. Not sure how you define 'overreact' but....

And all caused by a card that isnt unique at all, save for the minor change in artwork on it...

And a little healing potion at that. BIG game changer right there! (don't get me wrong, I'm happy they didn't do that but it's such a passable fodder item I expected yawns all around.)

Love the artwork, white dwarf one looks better and like something out of the Fable series.

I remember playing a game with the original combat cards back in... '94. Man... that was a long time ago.

Can't imagine why they'd bring them back. What's next, a new edition of Chainsaw Warrior? Mighty Empires?

Chainsaw Warrior has been released in video game form fairly recently, hasn’t it?

I’d love Mighty Empires, especially if the tiles were compatible with the plastic hexes they did a while back.

I'm fairly certain they released a version of the Mighty Empire rules digitally when they first released the plastic tiles so that you could do exactly that.

The plastic tiles come with a thinned down version of ME, none of the interesting economics or diplomacy stuff. There are a few PDFs kicking about of the original edition when I look a few years back.

Before the website redesign a few years back, the original boardgame rules from 1990 were available online as a PDF. I think that's what Platuan4th is getting at.

I enjoyed all the extra logistics when playing it as a boardgame, but as a campaign system for WFB, I thought they just made things awfully complicated for no advantage - time spent fiddling with baggage tokens, agents and the like was time not spent playing Warhammer.

They did. Complete with handwritten notes from whoever they scanned it from, because GW had lost the source files.

I was on the fence before the White Dwarf announcement. I'm still on the fence. It's not like I went from being ridiculously overexcited to put off. I went from being skeptical to put off. This game sure looks like it's supposed to be GW's answer to an FFG game like X-Wing or Armada. If GW sticks to that model and the game catches on, I might buy in. If they do any of the standard GW things... release limited edition rules that go out of print almost immediately, release book after book of mandatory rules, etc... I'm not buying in. Those are deal breakers for me. Given that the rules GW includes in WD are almost universally exclusive, it wasn't unreasonable to think I was seeing a deal breaker.

My group has been playing the 1990's ME quite a bit lately as a straight board game and enjoying it. The only criticism is the "tactics" for the abstracted battles are a little limited, to say the least. But we're able to power through a lot of turns and have a lot of interesting stuff happening. Now to get 6 players rather than 3...

A new version of the 1990 game with newer tiles (either plastic or card with newer artwork) would do it for me. Even with the same components.
