Or this sprue with supports they already have for full 5" walkways set.

But I would buy a couple of both of these...

Well, the two Promethium Refinery sets arrived (I still have to assemble them), and I continue assembling the Mantic scenery I already had. I have enough stuff for maybe one more ruined small-medium building, plus additional stuff for more walkways and assorted gribbles. I also have stuff from the old sector imperialis stuff to build (I'm thinking about an industrial tower or something, 1x1, maybe 3,4 stories, with plenty of hanging plattforms looking outside to place walkways).

What I do have assembled, though, looks like this right now (except for one set of plasma pipes) on a 4x4 board:

And a view from the "trenches" of the main street:

I'm assembling everything so that I can change configurations easily, to avoid getting bored of it. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

I was lucky and got a few of the "Shadow War Armageddon boxes, these 3 assemblies were done on 1' square hardboard:

I added a fair bit more after the fact to pretty-up the tiles.
"Granny plate" or cross-stitch grid is a cheap material.
What is good is to keep things modular so it all mates-up well.
I find for "incidental" builds, for walkway tiles use 1/4" polystyrene sidewalk:
https://evergreenscalemodels.com/collections/040-1-0mm-opaque-white-polystyrene-sidewalk/products/4516-1-4-x-1-4-opaque-white-polystyrene-sidewalk
Then "I"-beam:
https://evergreenscalemodels.com/collections/14-35cm-white-polystrene-i-beam
and "OPEN WEB TRUSS - WARREN STYLE 1" OTS-24 from Plastruct for handrails.
https://plastruct.com/about/catalog-download/
Train bridges make good walkways if you can find some cheap:

Then STAS-16 for stairs.
KL-16 for ladders and LC-16 for "ladder clips".
Diamond and tread-plate is also worth looking at.
The "Oil tower" is worth looking at as well: OIL-800
The possibilities are endless.

I find you have to be careful, with the 3-D aspect there is much more ground to cover.
I would try a 2'x2' = 4 tile area and see how it goes.
3'x3' = 9 tiles and is getting huge.

I've been building the Sector Mechanicus Terrain for the last week and boy is it a handful to clean up the mold lines.

My plan is to build a few large sections of 2 story terrain and leave them seperate, able to connect from different ends and angles through sections of free-standing walkway. I also plan to leave the ladders detachable so that the way up onto the walkways can change each game. This should give a lot of variety to the game board every time.

I'm contemplating the idea of magnetizing the end of each walkway so that it can snap to the next section and be rearrangable and sturdy at the same time. The idea of having to drill that many holes and put in that many magnets is hurting my head though.

I thought about it and got to the same conclusion. In the end I think that the connectors are sturdy enough that you can probably use them and be done with it, provided the separate pieces can sorta stand on their own.

I have asembled my Sector Mechanicus in such way (but with single level sections that can be stacked/connected in a lot of ways) and while connectors are sturdy enough to join self-standing pieces, you pretty much have to use those little square floor tiles as weight-bearing joints, because connectors are often quite loose in their slots. Other than that you might try to find magnets that have exact diameter to fit the slots and make "magnetised connectors" with simple tin plates.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some photos of my Sector Mechanicus lot and example assembly. This is quite dense setup, as I had space for only two tiles at my bench, but it is only a bit more dense that my usual playing field (I use a lot of my rock terrain pieces for populating 4'x4' table).

All those pieces on the first, unarranged picture, are permanently glued into subassemblies (except for ladders and platforms on large tanks and small boilers - those are detachable and interchangeable and I intend to keep them this way). As you may see, I cut some of supports at the top part and made small supports for straight walkways. This way I have plenty of cover on a single level as it is never same height all across and has small height variations along platforms. I also made couple of "half height" (2.5") supports from pipes and small Alchomite Stack features and lowered Plasma Regulators to match, so now I can achieve mid-levels. I plan to weight some pieces with smaller footprint so they are stable mid-game, but otherwise I'm happy with how modular this terrain set is at this moment.

Just as a comparison, my early setup from two SW:A boxes with only 5" levels looked much more "sterile":

That looks outstanding! I might just have to ask you some pointed questions about it when I assemble my stuff, you know. For science.

Also, your rock formations look ace.

Love the terrain Nou! I picked up two the refineries with my Necromunda set and have another comng shortly but I havent touched them while I work on the terrain in the Necro box. I was thinking of going the same route where the terrain was permanently built into smaller structures that could be put together in different combinations. Love what I see of yours so far, any advice to someone just getting ready to go down that road?

Around 200$? Those are contents of two SW:A boxes (one came pretty much free after selling scouts, orks and spare rulebook), two Haemotrope Reactor boxes and one box of each of the following: Ferratonic Incinerator (pretty much my favourite available structural set, as it provides straight platforms, supports and a tank), Servohaulers, Plasma Regulators and Plasma Conduits (I love those, much more detailed than Alchomite stack pipelines). This table looks like there is more more because all those varied level heights now.

Pretty much the whole "secret" to the look of this set is twofold:

1) use midlevels. Alchomite Stack has couple of pieces that are exactly 2.5". This breaks the look of "standard" Sector Mechanicus which looks quite flat and vertically sparse. Plasma Regulators without any modification are 3", so I guess GW plans to release more 3" high pieces in the future.

2) use "quarter levels". After playing two SW:A campaigns and couple of games of Oldcromunda it became painfuly obvious, that there is not enough cover on upper levels from railings alone. Each 5" level of Sector Mechanicus is very distinctively "another plane" and not so much "vertical maze" of obstacles and levels. This is why I decided to cut some supports right above the arches and used those small, gothic upper part as raisers for walkways. This way I have some 4" levels and some 1" raisers. Those are big enough differences to provide hard cover for typical 25mm base models operating on a theoretically single floor. On one of the closeups above you can see 4 distinct heights of "first floor" level. Having levels lower than 5" also enables changing level and shooting in the same turn of SW:A or Necromunda.

But one thing to be aware of - I know that some people like 5" levels because of easy reach. I don't mind having cluttered terrain as I have very long fingers to reach for those models under low structures or in tight places. And with such terrain you pretty much have to have small periscope to check LOS from behind model's head (I recommend having one either way, as the view from exact model perspective, even on grey plastic terrain, can indeed be spectacular).

Hey MajorTom11, there's a Facebook group specifically called Necromunda Terrain Makers. You might want to give 'em a look.

Then you can gain the power needed to build things like this, the insanity to buy stuff like this.

Strong therapy is needed.
HBMC showed the horror of what amounts to two full sets of the SOA kit or "Industrial terrain set" in one structure... I feel a great crying out of wallets everywhere (awesome to behold however).
I "think" I have that many bastions... but not bought in one big go... I need to upgrade my job and have no children to get to that level.
They finally had the Servohaulers in my area, painting those could be interesting.
I just narrowly stopped myself from buying the Plasma conduits and regulators but that will only be a matter of time...

Anyone else have some serious "completionist" impulses to try to reign-in?
I am already doomed with X-wing, good GW terrain for use in Necromunda is death for the wallet and a strain on the relationship when one cannot be trusted with "plastic crack".

On topic: the rules seem to not stray too far from the Shadow War rules so falling off things is a fun event.
Which reminds me on making a tile with vats to fall into.
If an Eldar falls into one, do they become a Harlequin?

Yeah, x-wing had me ridiculously til about wave 5 or 6, up til then, like at least 3 of each ship, every one custom painted, every event card, custom printed game mat designed by me, asteroids, even had a death star one designed with a trench and custom surface turrets.

I am not looking forward to a repeat of this level of gotta catch em all... lol

I'm quite happy with just two Shadow War sets, a Promethium refinery, promethium pipes, plasma pipes and plasma regulators.

Which in my head didn't sound like an awful lot.. But probably still rookie numbers compared to some of the posters in this thread.

But for me it's enough to comfortably fill a 3' x 3' table (our tables are not that big at home):

Personally, I'd say that needs more scatter terrain (the bulkheads and barricades in the Necromunda box would probably do), but it looks good.
