I only play at 1500pts or less. Went back to this after the AM codex dropped.

The 1500 point game just seems more balanced. Most of the "problem" lists i was seeing at 2k are long gone. Bonus i can now get in 2 or 3 games a night rather than 1 with a slim possibility of a second.

In war there is poetry; in death, release.

We played a local tourney with 10 players at the 1500 pt level, recently.
No special characters and models with more than 16 wounds allowed.
Pretty fast and smooth games.

1500 points are fine for those armies that already have a codex. Many index armies have too many overcosted units to be viable at 1500 point without relying maybe on a single list.

If superheroes and huge stuff are the problem just ban them from casual games.

Overall 1500 points game are quite entertaining but I think they're even more unbalanced than 2000 points ones when it comes to matches between index army vs codex army.

1500 is the standard around here, for whatever that's worth. >90% of my games of 8th have been 1500 points. The remainder have been 1000.

i am aiming for 1000 and 500 point modules that may be plugged in and played as a whole at any level, i.e. at 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000, though i like the idea of smaller scale games because the table size allows more room for maneuvering.

I have played everything from 30 power to 2000 points. I enjoy most of them with the right opponent.

I always used to play 1500 points.

Came back to the game after a few years for 8th, went into my local games workshop every weekend for 5-6 weeks and everybody there absolutely refused to play anything but 2000. The general reason was their army doesnt work at 1500 points.

Needless to say most of these people were not very friendly to outsiders and seemed only interested in playing games with the regulars they had know for a long time.

Managed to get 2 games at 1000 points with other walk ins like me but I stopped goi g because of the bad atmosphere.

Played my 1500 game against a horde ork army so cant say it went any quicker but sure was fun and my army was easier to transport. Don’t know how many I will be able to get in because most are stuck on 2000 points but from now on I’m going to try.

My groups started at 1500, swiftly moved to 2000, and now we're pretty much universally playing at 2250.

However, our 2250 games last about 2 hours. Sometimes a few minutes less, sometimes a few minutes more, but we're pacing nearly universally at exactly the 2 hour mark from deployment to finish.

I dont know if it's the armies we play, but for most of us, we found we couldn't bring anything "we actually wanted to" at 1500 or 2000. Those were just enough points to build a proper TAC, but never enough to add anything "fun" or "interesting" to it - usually bigger stuff or overpriced FW stuff.

We all sort of hated just "filling detachment requirements to play with mandatory stuff" , so we added that extra 250 just to slip stuff in.

So 1500 seems to be a sweet spot for Codex forces; I'll keep this in mind.

What building techniques do you all use for your 1500 point lists? I'm in need of redoing my AM one.

Also, if 1500 is a high-point "sweet spot", what would you say a lower bound would be? I.e. does it sort of start to unravel if you go below a certain point threshold?
