For QT, I think it is more likely to need an R for violence/language than sex.

No suggestion such a thing is on the cards, but seems Sir Patrick Stewart would don the uniform once again for a Tarantino directed Star Trek film.

But then, pretty sure everyone says that about every film these days.

Films today are a lot more violent and sexy than 30 or 40 years ago for the same rating.

That being said, is the main Star Trek audience underage? I think not.

That's quite a big moment since didn't he pretty much want to walk off-set last time they did a film with him?
Be great to see him don the uniform one more time!

I am imagingin Patrick Stewart dropping the F-bombs on some alien fools in a Cardassian-Phaser stand-off*.

*That is where three or more groups of aliens are all pointing phasers at each other over the Macguffin, but no one can really do anything without everyone getting killed.

Oh, it would absolutely add something to the movie. Something called Entertainment, which Star Trek really has an issue with.

Kirk's philanderer character is an invention of modern interpretation. If you look deeply into his actual performances in the series, he was not at all the rash sex god of modern popular imagination.

That said, if I want to see some uglies being bumped I can look it up on the internet easily enough and not have to wade through tedious exposition.

If it's going to happen in a regular cinema film it needs to be important for advancing the plot.

Plenty of folk find Trek entertaining, I think the issue is that it's not the kind of entertainment you're looking for. I'm sure there will be something else for you to watch at the cinema though, there's never a shortage of vacuous action films crammed with pointless titillation

Or anything with a plot that has a little depth to it.

Hey, I trust DoG. They cite their sources, and give at least some indication whether it's idle chit chat or solid info.

OH man, I had a spit take here.

I bet Michael Bay is impressed with the script, too.

Apparently Tarantino isn't writing the script. He pitched the idea and will direct the film but Mark L. Smith is being picked to write.

That could actually work. The only issue I've ever had with Tarantino is that he takes good ideas and decides to script them in the most bizarre way possible which is really hit and miss for my enjoyment. The only issue is that I'm confused by the picking of Smith. Revenant was okay, but the rest of his work is really limited and mostly in the "way better than I was expecting but nothing great" category.

Maybe the two of them can make it great?

I am not a huge Tarantino fan boy, but I am certainly looking forward to this, if just for the novelty of it!

TBH I'd be happier with a novelty Trek film if we'd been getting something other than novelty Trek for the last decade. In the 90's when there was Proper Trek on TV and in the cinema, the idea of seeing what weirdness would result from an R-rated Tarantino Trek would hold some appeal, but at the moment between JJTrek and STD there's plenty of tonally different or deconstructionist takes on the material floating around already.

Are people really referring to the new CBS show as "STD"?

People who dislike it are

Seriously though the two alternatives CBS seem to favour - DSC and, no joke, "Disco" - seem even sillier to me.

And I officially don't know what to think, other than "make a movie so I can watch it." Once I actually see it, I can judge it accordingly. I'm also keen on Beyond not being the end of it all. We got three entertaining movies, and a video game where the storyline fits in right between two of the movies, and I'd like to not be done there.

After seeing the "post-modern" look at Star Wars, I am not sure I can handle a QT Star Trek anymore.

Perhaps, it would be easier with a QT directed Star Trek as i would know what to expect going in and would be looking for that Pot-modern vibe. I don't know.
