Now that CA has dropped them (again) to a lower point value of 42 from 50, is this unit finally a good choice to use in comparison to Terminators? Or is it still just more viable to field regular Termies with Melee loadouts, while still being able to get guns?

The issue with comparing them to Terminators is that both units are still bad. They need to be significantly better than TH/SS terms in order to see any play because why do chaos need them? They have Berserkers, magnus, mortarion, cultist spam for CC. 8th is a game of shooting so a unit that does absolutely 0 shooting, is super slow AND is expensive is a door stop at best.

Actually Slaanesh Terminators have a use given the ability to double tap upon deep striking due to Endless Cacophony. Getting four shots of Combi-Plasma off is pretty good.

Being unable to perform a role that wasn't intended for the model does not make the model weak.

They are though and hit hard, but have low mobility. This clearly identifies them as counter assault units. They are to stay at the front of your line to make contact with enemy assault models.

The fact that the meta right now does not encourage these type of models doesn't matter.

Counter Assault is a terrible role overall though. It means the opponent HAS to send something towards the army.

I think if you're deep striking them, you could set them on or next to an objective in or near the enemies line. They seem tough enough to fend off most infantry to hold the objective.
