Does the number still work and can we still get those prices?

Celestine. Not sure what it is exactly about that set, but somehow it is one of the best things GW has done.

Belisarius Cawl. Barely skimmed the rest of the options - it was always gonna be Cawl.

I'd been waiting two decades for AdMech minis. Not Enginseers; I'm talking Skitarii, I'm talking the Tech Priest Dominus, which to me is the AdMech poster child. I was so happy when the day finally came.

And then Cawl comes along and he's basically the Primarch equivalent of the Dominus; a work of brilliant, mind-blowing, mad genius.

---

Escher did give me pause for thought, though. They were always my fave House, and the new kit looks glorious. I am still sore about the heels - even if I liked battle heels, they make no sense on hardcore punks who should be wearing stomping boots! - but aside from that, they're fantastic.

Wow, they actually think 2017 with its handful of releases was a varied and spectular line up?

This is actually the worst year GW has had for minis in several decades.

Yeah boy, who doesn't remember 1989, that brought us miniatures like this trolls and this guys in pajamas

I'm... not sure what the joke is.
2017 had a dreadfully slow release schedule, and absurdly limited releases, largely minor variations of the same stuff repeated ad nauseum.

And those trolls are great.

Had a really hard choice choosing between all the amazing AoS releases.

Had to limit down between Overlords, Stormcast and the Skeletons.

I finally settled on the Stormcast releases and then had to choose between Steelheart's gallant warband, the lord Aquilor and his glorious mount or the Palladors and their epic charge pose.

Finally the Bretonnia fan in me chose the Palladors for being fellow cavaliers and riding demi-hippogryphs in all their glory.

The Saint was the only non-heretical option; those of you who chose poorly should see your nearest Commissar and/or Ecclesiarchy member for additional guidance.

Joking aside, that was the model for 2017 for me since it kicked off an interest into the Fall of Cadia storyline and by extension the "new" 40k of 8th Edition. That's lead to a healthier chunk of spending on GW than previous years even if some of the releases (e.g. - Newcromunda) would have likely garnered them anyway.

Tough call between Celestine and the Primaris Chaplain for me - but I voted Celestine in the end.

I couldn't decide between Celestine and Greyfax but voted for Celestine. I think I actually like Greyfax more, honestly. It's kinda weird, sometimes the best models aren't necessarily the biggest or most-impressive looking on the tabletop: Celestine definitely has more of an "impact" but there's something about the Greyfax model that's just plain cool in its simplicity. Just a sharply-dressed female Inquisitor with a really cool hat and a crossbow.

The Visarch and Yvraine were also a couple of my favorites, especially the latter. She looks like a boss, and I love her pet. House Escher box was another great one, I really love the kit but somehow couldn't call it the best. Definitely ranked #2 for me, at least.

There wasn't much that came out for 40k that I didn't like, honestly. I think Guilliman was probably the weakest model of them all, in my opinion.

I guess I'll have to vote for the Saint.

The Trencher Patrol Dog has almost tempted me into buying that Trencher Box for Warmachine.

It would be cool to see an inter game model voting contest. A panel of the most experienced modelers and painters (not me lol) judge the best models made in 2017 and come out with a model of the year. I mean its a simple concept really I'm kind of surprised the hobby doesn't have one. Even video games have award shows but all the hard work and recongition of the actual model makers isn't going on display? While I doubt it would be a big event like the oscars, vga's, or emmy's I think it could work for a small stream format. The golden demon is kind of like that but it is only for best paint job and GW only.

One of the big challenges I always find with this kind of thing is just whether or not I've got personal experience with the model itself or if I'm just looking at pictures. There are a number of times a rather mediocre model is masked by an incredible paint job. Details that really drew you in not being part of the model at all but the result of freehand work for example. I think that makes it really hard for anyone to come up with a list by themselves. You'd need something with a firm nomination process to give people time to acquire and work with the kit to before voting.

Primaris Lieutenants. They're not flashy army centerpiece special character HQ models like many of the votes here but I think they're very well done (especially the sword/pistol one) and highlight the better scaling/proportions of the primaris models.

I ended up voting for the Shadespire skeletons, but it was a difficult choice with so many awesome miniatures such as Celestine, Yvraine, the Kharadron overlords and others.

I went with the Celestine too. Even though i went with another maker for my SOB army and converted my Celestine, I still give GW props for this model as the design is perfect, but at that time I already had my alternative SOB army and her germinae were too much classic SOB and would clash with my army. so she wasn't a purchase for me.

I couldn't vote: I dislike all those models

Maybe I could save Visarch, he's not awful but quite dull IMHO, I'm certainly not fond of him. And I would like the Celestine model if it wasn't so big.

They kinda did, but yeah, detailed list and breakdown would be nice.

Also, man, most voiced opinion on almost every forum was Celestine, then long, long nothing. How she lost by a gap that big? Is DG that popular after a year of nothing but nurgle, or did someone really tried to skew the vote and made one of the worst looking (admittedly mostly intentionally) model win to troll GW?

Ok, maybe I am biased because I don't really like Mortarion/DG, but there were (IMO) much better models in even just DG range than him. Abacus guy, fly Terminator, and various nurglings just ooze character and unique/fun design, while Morty is really just his 30K self with some bits and bobs added here an there...

Vigo. Spain.

Well, Celestine was top 10. Personally I wouldn't have put Mortarion in my top 10, but if Warhammer fans have shown anything is that, the bigger, the better

But yeah they should have done a detailed top10 at least. Like they did past year.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.
