Thank you guys for your comments and votes. I’m really glad to see that people I admire as painters like my work. It’s a nice little ego boost and it makes me want to paint more and improve and maybe someday my miniatures can stand next to the ones I vote here.

I don’t have to say anything about my votes because to be honest I don’t feel like I am worthy enough to judge most (if not all) people here. At least not yet

Now about my miniature:
I tried to fix the misalignment of the spear and succeeded to a degree. I know if I try more I will get frustrated so let’s say it’s as good as it gets for now.
As for the glossy skin, I don’t even have a light on. Its natural light from a window the other side of the room. That said I will probably try some Army Painter’s anti-shine varnish.

I have to say I really enjoy these challenges. And I will try to join more often.

Well done Midget Gems...I feel like that's kinda taking advantage of the "Open Round" month. Did you plan it precisely 9 months ago? That's a lot of work. How you going to base her?

Well I do try to prepare for these challenges but not that in advance hehe. My hobby store cupboards are full of bits to help me make my random ideas the "wouldn't it be a cool idea if..... or I might need that if I decide to make ....." stuff. She is based in a lovely pinkish colour,

I hope you can! As I'm sure you know from your first, you do get a few months where you can sit them in a bouncy chair and entertain them by periodically blowing raspberries at them while you sculpt Ork versions of the characters from Back To The Future.

We’d need a proof pic. Might also be hard to fit her in with the month’s theme, but I have faith in you. Grats on the kiddo.

Bouncy chairs are time in the bank. I also recommend overloading them with scatter toys. The Kid will play with the toys, drop them out of the chair, find new ones, repeat. Gets you another 15 minutes or so before you need to do something.

(I may have used these techniques to finish MMO raids back in the day)

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I’m quite happy with the way they turned out. I do think these challenges have really helped push me to be a better painter. Now I just need to knuckle down and get more work done on the current project.

Do people who don't participate vote? There's only 28 entries but Modock has 51 votes, so a bunch of people who didn't enter must have voted and not commented, which just seems a little odd to me.

That's fairly normal, I imagine waaaay more people vote than enter. If we only had people who entered vote there wouldn't be nearly as many votes each month. Nothing weird about it to me, it's a community-based challenge after all.

Isn't this the case every time?! More people vote than there are entrants. If you look at the past challenges you'll see that
the winner usually gets 40 - 50 votes or even more. There are never that many participants.

Yeah, I just never thought about it. But if you're voting, why not comment?

Well I for example vote even when I dont participate. Especially Modock's miniatures (I can't get the gallery vote thing to work though... dont know why)
And forums always have many "stalkers". People read and vote without ever posting anything. I know I have been one. So I dont really find it weird.

Hey everyone, hope you don't mind the slight hijack; because Moolet seems to like the Megaboss model so much, I decided to take some more quick pictures and share with everyone here (can you guess why my Ironjawz are named Krimson Maw? )

If you take an avg and say everyone votes for 5 entries that means we have 86 people voting so far, which is great and I'm sure many more look at this thread.

I love that people bother to take the time to vote even if they don't comment, it helps keep me going knowing that lots of people are looking at my work (and hopefully liking it).

Thats a much better photo of your work Draconic Lord, The skull and the blood on the axe look very well done. The photo in the voting part has some shadows on and its harder to make out the details you have painted on.

Hey draconian that's a much better picture. He is great. Nice paint job and as Midget said, he is showed off much better here. Well done.

@Modock. Thanks for the comment, very high praise from yourself, I just wish I had your eye for colour.

They disgustingly have these bouncy chairs/rockers that are battery powered and corded as well Lovely things lol Not anything like that back in my day

Also, bouncy chair at your foot, use your foot to rock it And just generally get used to doing things one handed (I don't actually recommend wearing the baby for long periods, they get big fast, you drop yoiur paint/food on their head and it hurts your back).

Grats again

Results! A day late, but this should be the last delayed post as the dissertation is in tomorrow! As of then, I'll try and be a little more speedy updating things.

In third place, Midget Gems' Grot Carol Choir.

In second, n1ceguypaul's Santa Dwarf!

And taking the win by a significant margin, Modock's beautiful Emerald Dragon:

A great set of results to end one year and welcome in the next. Here's to many more fantastic entries in 2018!

Congratulations to the top three - that's a very good top three this month. I'm pleased to see both the Christmas dioramas make it onto the podium, and of course Modock's dragon is absolutely incredible.

And of course congratulations to everyone who entered. Zergsmasher, your personal best is well-deserved. Just finishing Mortarian is an accomplishment, and it looks like you used a few different techniques I don't think I've seen you use before. In doing so you've created a really spectacular model for the tabletop.
