Great work for a fan effort (certainly far better than I could pull off)!

It's the trailer all there is, or is it a prelude to a longer eventual work?

I don't see anything goofy about it though, I'm not trying to pick an argument, but what exactly comes off as "goofy?"

The entire pretentiousness of trying to scrub 40K of its quintessential comical, ironical and comedically exaggerated soul as a parody of pretentious 80s sci-fi and attempting to play the parody straightfaced as the thing it mocked and ridiculed in the first place.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Warhammer40k. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of science fiction backhistory most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Horus's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Michael Morcook literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these HH's novels, to realize that they're not just a parody- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Warhammer 40k truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Kharn existencial catchphrase "KILL! MAIM! BURN!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Homero's Greek epic Iliad. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Matt Ward's genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them.

Come on now Galas, I thought better of you. 4chan meme "humour"? Although to be fair, it probably deserved that response.

Galas, that meme was gakky back when it war first introduced with Rick and Morty. It is gakky here still and further dated. Please don't do it ever again.

I apologize, I won't sin again with 4chan humour (But to be fair it was originated in reddit)

Overall I thought it very good, showing the immense durability of marines and terminators very well. The blood looked odd and at times looked more like machinima rather than animation, with objects not interacting consistently but for a fan movie, done in spare time, excellent.

I cannot help thinking that using the running woman as a constant narrative device would have been better, essentially following her mad dash to safety with the fighting around her, using her as a constant human scale marker to show just how turned up to 11 40k and HH is.

The audio is slices of clips from all over, namely dawn of war games.

I wouldn’t expect a talented animator working by himself to knock the audio out of the park, it’s not his wheelhouse.

Give this [egg] some punctuation and a cookie! I guess the point is relevant, but I don't see how adapting a fictional universe to a new medium can't involve messing with the tone a little bit. There was next to no narrative in the clip, so that leaves very little room for any character development that would flesh out the tongue-in-cheek elements that [egg] brings up anyway. Or would [egg] rather have seen a fan pour his time and effort into creating a nicely paced narrative scene that might better convey the subtle nuances of the universe's setting?

I think it was just about the horrors of combat as witnessed by faceless, irrelevant insignificants. The focus was on the fighting and the fighting is why I entered this hellscape when I was an oh-so-insightful 12-year-old version of me.

Kickass depiction of superhuman precision regardless of unwieldy and encumbering equipment. Nothing more, nothing less.
Eight stars.

Not bad at all.

Over all there's a really good weight conveighed (especially for the termies). I would have liked for the armour to have felt as a bit more durable though and the power armour a tad more clunky, but It's a very good depiction of the fighting in Ultramar during the heresy.

t's a pretty laughable notion that it's pretentious for 30K as a setting to be played more serious than rouge trader in the 80's. Both interpretations have their place (although people will have different favorites) . Like the different depictions and takes on Batman during the decades.

I really don't get the audio is horrible everyone is going on about. The mother and her child was not good, mixed to high and I think she needed to say the line one less time than the three we got in the video. The screaming was also kind of poor because it sounds like it was the same short clip played over and over again, which made it seem artificial and repetitive.

However all of the marines sounded good to me and the background music, while a bit cliche fit very well and honestly I've payed $12+ to hear similar background music in theaters so it's hard to be too critical. The weapon and fighting sound effects were done well and not over done letting you focus on the action without taking away from it.

And the animation was excellent, it really drove home how fast Space Marines are, the action was a bit hard to follow in some places but I think(hope) that was a style choice to really show how fast these super soldiers are just as the missing limbs showed how resilient they are. The Terminators were just awesome, I mean at least for me they really brought home how large, plodding, and powerful they are supposed to be.

Solid A over all, a few audio revisions and it would easily be an A+.

Looks to be a trailer for a longer work. When that comes out I have no idea. I just stumbled upon this.

I think they re-jigged the audio on this at least once already, but all the voices are either clipped pretty horribly or are suffering from muddiness(being sat in a mix that's already pretty saturated with mids/lows) or the proximity effect (AKA Mic-eating-syndrome).

it's just pretty telling that whoever did the sound didn't even try to read up on how to do it well.
EDIT : upon a few more listens I get the impression that the VA's may have done the recordings themselves and in fairness to the sound lad you can only polish a turd so much.

THAT ALL SAID:

The art, animation and lighting/shaders etc are slick as all hell and deserve props, I am excited to see if this goes anywhere provided they've sorted the sound issues.

This is incorrect - specifically, the Imperial Fist techmarine is voiced by Chapter Master Valrak, or MadMuzza on Dakka - and I'm sure he hasn't been in any DoW games.

video was awesome. the dialogue that was bad was real, real bad/cliche/SAVE MY BABY but that can be easily fixed and will probably be 30 seconds you won't remember after we get to finally watch the rest. i'm very much down with this video.
