If we're gonna talk "Psych", we should throw "Burn Notice" into the list as well...more of a MacGyver-y show than Psych was but still damn good.

Oh, no need, I was humming the theme tune the moment I read the name

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

There are a plethora of excellent good English and American comedic mysteries as this thread shows!

One that hasn't come up that I can recommend is called 'The Nero Wolfe Mysteries' which is based on a series of books.
The recent series of Maigret also deserves a mention.

Would you include radio shows too? Lord Peter Wimsey and Paul Temple are both good listens IMO, if a bit dated. The BBC runs both with some regularity on Radio 4 and 4Extra.

Well gak, that's two good things this thread's done - I started browsing wikipedia to find a Psych episode to watch and found out they did a sodding movie continuing the story, I didn't have a clue.

EDIT: And it was good Less self-indulgent than the last season of the show.

Monk was a great detective comedy

Gravity Falls if you don't mind animation

I liked the concept of Monk, couldn't get into the shows. showing the murderer doing the crime first takes the fun out mysteries, because there's no mystery.

Wasn't that the Columbo thing? Or did Monk do it too? Never really watched either.

Oh, and we can add Mrs Columbo to the list, I believe. That's unless Turnip Jedi flat out made it up (which he didn't unless he faked the web pages to support it too!)

columbo might have done it well, but if you want to get old school with it then we need to add:

Magnum PI, and simon & simon.

they even did a crossover episode

Oh thank the gods, I am glad somebody mentioned it, because my heart was sinking as this thread progressed on.

Mrs Kilkrazy is devoted to Columbo. I used to think Columbo was a load of hokey old American crap, but once I started to watch them carefully, I found they are actually really well done.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

it was real, although oddly you're the second person to suggest I somehow went to great lengths to fabricate the whole thing on the intertubes

I think Mrs Columbo just never got shown on repeated occasions or in a good strong time slot - so its one of those shows that has existed and yet never really got noticed. That and I suspect the main show just steals the lime light. I've "heard of it" in passing but I've never seen it appear on the TV.

That and it might be one of those programs that never made it much across the sea to the UK - much like some other bigger shows never did (eg the Police Academy TV series)
