Only just seen this thread.
Davidian: your painting is phenomenal. I don't think I've ever seen these shades before.
And the detail on the sculpts is bloody great.
TBH, I really like the very pale green you based the Spire skin with. But yeah, glazed it's perfect

Many thanks for the complements... Part of me is really proud of it... Another part is thinking, "the illusion is complete!" in a maniacal voice, hehe.
If I could paint like that I don't think I would even bother to play...just build armies. They look great. Glad to see some activity on the Para Bellum website....and rules!

Thanks guys, I've been really flakie the last few weeks. Work, family gak, you know? A little bird tells.me these should be up for retail on the 3rd of next month... gak! XD my goal was to finish them before that so I can buy more...
I've put some more work into my Abomination's armour and skin. Just the porcelain mask to do before I try a new thing... greenstuffworld colourshift paint on the chittin :O
It is really weird. I don't think I like the models, and I don't think I'd want to paint them, but I really love what you have done with them. You've got an awesome colour palette and executed it really well.
Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
That abomination is soo creepy. I love the colorshift paint. Very nice work. The Steel Legion from up thread look very imposing. They are probably my favorite models of all the Conquest stuff we've seen.

Thanks guys, esp Fifty. I often find it hard to look through minis I don't personally like, so it means a lot that you took the time to look
The steel legion are really good at chopping up the abomination, I have found too XD the knights can hurt it on the charge but as soon as they lose momentum, they lose their heavy hitting power.
I think The Legion are my favourite unit fluffwise too but I'm honestly going to miss painting this beast.
Speaking of fluff (I finished the Abomination... might revisit the bases once they're all finished)....
Abominations loom several man heights over the head of even the tallest mortal. Their gore slicked limbs spider out from its bulbous, distended abdomen and thorax. They are instruments of pure mayhem on the battlefield, scuttling forwards and reaping a bloody toll with their scythe like appendages, leaving only bloody ruin behind them. Survivors speak of a keening whine, just on the verge of hearing that pervades their memories, a sound that registers deeper than the cries of their fallen comrades. This is the only sound an Abomination can make, the only sound it is allowed to make: a keening howl to convey the depth of their misery and torment.
Abominations were not originally intended to serve as organic war engines. They were an advanced and cruel form of punishment, devised on a whim by the Sovereign. Ensconced deep within an Abomination lies the body of an Exile who has betrayed his trust or breached the most sacrosanct of Spire laws. Despite significant effort, even the Sovereign’s most ardent opponents have not been able to come up with a more cruel punishment and have adopted this cruel torture for their worst enemies.
Invasive cerebral procedures impairs the cognitive function of the condemned, as chemical and hormonal treatments are applied to make them lose control of their Life-Binding gifts and forcibly bond them to a lower organism. Multiple organisms were proposed and tried but the humble ant was ultimately preferred. While more gruesome examples could be made, it was found that those Abominations bonded to other species were too intractable or self-destructive. The ant’s instinctive hierarchical physiology somehow makes it more susceptible to Pheromonic command, forcing the body to respond to orders while allowing compromised psyche trapped within the hellish amalgam only enough control to wail its anguish even while enacting the will of its tormentors.
All the fabrics on ALL of my spire are shaded, just a touch of a highlight to do this week then onto the final (And arguably biggest) task of building up the bonemold armour.
I have to be honest, I invested in this because I love the art, lore and miniatures. I always thought, "if the game's gak, I've got some incredible minis. No loss". I have no obligation to do anything with these minis now, I could eBay them or put them in a shredder for all para bellum care... but I can't...
After playing it... a lot... I'm in love with it.
The escalation, command stack and flanking reinforcement make it a super dynamic and tactical game that feel like nothing else I've played in my 20 something years gaming.
In fact I like it so much, I dedicated a YouTube channel to it.
Stay a while and listen

Found my paints at atlast XD the long break was for a good reason. was trining for a charity MMA fight which is over now
it been lovely to have time to paint again. Finished my first stand of marksmen clones and wondering how to rogress the bases when theyre all painted :?
Great paint job the minis look great. Is there much interest for the game in Nottingham? I’m only just up the road in Sheffield and wondering if there will be a scene or not for the game here but would be willing to travel for some games.
Oh, I've moved to Portsmouth Haha. Not updated my profile. Tonnes of interest everywhere I've taken it tbh. Southampton has at least 9 guys who have preorders the starter set
Kchoat'lis? I've not heard that word since I were just a boy. My grandfather liked to scare us with silly stories.
Kchoat'lis was first named when the Old Dominion was young. A name, a word that has survived the ravages of time in stories used to terrify hardened soldiers about the camp fire.
Tales tell of the Kchoat'lis beetles. Predatory insects, the size of men that swarm and consume as locust! From the great Hive Spire.
Sure, there were truths to the tale. Half truths and exadurations.
The Kchoat'lis Hive Spire stands high upon the mountains of the dying lands. No man alive claimed to have travelled there but it is clearly visible from the North Dominion. In the evenings twighlight, huge clouds of creatures... surely bats or swallows in migration, could be seen billowing like plumes of smoke in the far distance.
During The Fall, it was said that The Hive erupted like a Hornets nest kicked by a fool!
My old man swore that the tales were true. That our ancestors who crossed the wastelands not only fled the devastation but also from great swarm of Kchoat'lis. Some the size of men but others like towering monsters!
Hahahaha! The look in your eyes boy!"
The Spire Lords of Kchoat'lis are true indeed. As are the huge insect that inhabit the region but the size of a man, they are not. Maybe a small dog at the largest! Their citadel, seated high in the dying lands mountains survived The Great Dragon Wars and lay dormant for millennia. For the mountains were rich in biomass. Thousands of tonnes of insect biomass. The stock was rich, strong and responsive to phenomenal command, leaving few reasons to meddle in the world of men that had developed around them.
Until the cataclysm. The realm of men had brought a destructive force upon themselves. The Hive responded just like the old tales tell... swarms of man size creatures. Man shaped insects with dagger like claws. Drones wrapped in chitinous armour with claw like blades, flooded the lands and defended The Hive with ravenous instincts.
The aftermath of The Fall was suffered by the delicate balance of life around The Hive. A winter eternal. In just 5 spawning cycles, most of the insects of Kchoat'lis were all but extinct.
The realms of men, through their ignorance, through their arrogance, had cost the Kchoat'lis Lords greatly.
A price man would suffer as long as the world must suffer man!
(I'm not a writer by a long shot and that was mostly made up on the spot)
Ffs.... pictures I linked just disappeared :(
