Also, you can ask the place you buy the plywood from to cut it into 4x4 squares. Then you need 4 legs per table, but the exact same procedure works, I've done this in the past as well (my 4x4 tables were given to friends once I had room for a 4x8).
Removable by how? IKEA screw one sounds like it would be taken out by literally taking screws out. That sounds that if you do it several times a month would eventually wear the plywood out. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I worry how the screw holes would look after repeated screw in, screw out.
The ones I got had a base plate, that screws into the wood, and the leg has a single large bolt that threads into the base plate. So you literally twist the legs off, 3-4 turns and it's off. Each leg is also height adjustable, which allows you to level the table if your floor isn't perfect.
Interesting. Some sort of leg where you have base plate that is screwed into wood and then separate lock that would allow legs to be taken on/off(and is designed with that in mind!) would be good. Have to check if there's Ikea nearby and go shopping though price is issue. Somewhat ironic I can order ready made tables for about same price from UK than to buy basic parts in finland and build table myself That's finnish prices for you!

IKEA is a monument to efficiency. They have a 21 story(!) warehouse of furniture packages that's entirely automated.
On a sad note, the founder just died recently (Jan 27, 2018) at the age of 91. He ran the company until 2013!
But yes, check with IKEA to see what's available, it's always changing. The ones I have use a central threaded bolt in the leg, which screws into the baseplate. My hobby table in my computer room uses the exact same legs.

edit: Also price might not be that cheap compared to this:
136e total. For self made 12e per leg, 40e for 8'x4' board. IF I do 4' wide with 4 legs each that adds to 136e or so. And doesn't include any painting, side edges etc. Albeit 2 feet extra but can I FIT that! Might have to settle for 2 3' parts which still costs same(plus about 2' spare)
Tough one. Guess I should measure my room bit more to see if 8' fits at all. If not self-made has little benefit. MAYBE durability compared to folding one but again wear to screw holes is worry.
You also need to bear in mind that the folding table from amazon is not 6 feet long or 2 feet wide it just under on both measurements 70.8" x 23.6"

Ah well while technically correct it's less of issue for me as short of buying insulation foam/whatever from england I'm basically stuck with 60cm wide boards. Haven't found exactly divided by 24" parts anywhere here. Ergo the amazon board is spot on what my modular boards are! If it was exact 72"x24" there would be about inch trim. Now while it wouldn't hurt having it and could indeed be good it's something that's not going to be deal breaker.
(also I think I should be covered with that 1" trim hanging over anyway. It's small enough difference it wont' cause board to flip especially with hardboard weighing several kilos so it's fairly stable.
I don't think I have EVER in any tournament played with exactly 72"x48" board. 72"x47.2" is probably closest if the board long edges have been marked with tape or something. Here people are generally stuck with insulation foams that are 60cm deep for their boards(tables that are 48" deep are even rarer! That's why part of insulation foam hanging in air is 100% standard here) which means that 48" boards are pipe dream generally.
It's minor annoyance and generally sorted by reducing deployment zone by half an inch if it's measured from your table edge.

Having recently moved to a bigger house with rooms for a decent set up I went with a 4’ x 4’ trestle table of the type that you’d get at a wedding/conference sorta event.
Alpharius wrote: 2 of those tables together would be just about perfect for a gaming setup though, right?
You need some room for 'stuff', besides the standard (ish) 4' x 6' area.
72"x60" would be bit deep though. Makes hard to reach center. Generally wider rather than deeper is convenient IMO. Depending on your room type of course! For me simply standing would be tough as with 47" deep board with shelf on one wall and bed on other it leaves rather narrow areas to stand on already!

This. The legs are cheap, and the plywood is cut to the size you want.
I was able to get a 2x8 folding table from Aldi a few months back for €30. The table split half so I was able to make it into a 4x4 but one side was missing a pair of legs. I just got a wooden pool and cut 2 1/2 foot legs for that side of the table and everything was perfect. I then bought another 2x4 folding table for €65 to make it 6x4.
So, for €70ish I was able to get a foldale 6x4 with 2 wooden legs to hold one side up.
I got two 3 shelve wire racks (NSF) at auction for commercial equipment (so pretty cheap) and put two old and no longer in use closet doors on top. That did the trick.
Storage underneath and a decent sized table top on top.
