I'll bet almost any to will follow rai on this. The real thing to watch out for is 9th or if after the final codex, indices are declared illegal.

Aren't you having to refer to page 89 in the index to know which datasheets to use for BA?
Only for Datasheets without a Codex Entry. Company Veterans have a codex entry.

But you get to refer to the index for wargear options not in the codex entry. Therefore you get to refer to the index to see if there is wargear for the datasheet, which means you're using page 89 for determining if there's an applicable datasheet for BA, which also means you get the statement saying that for BA the datasheet includes the JP.
You get to refer to the wargear entries ON THE DATASHEET. Company Veterans don't have Jump Packs on the Datasheet because the footnote that gives them that no longer applies.

According to page 89 it IS on the BA datasheet, as it tells you that their version of the datasheet has jump packs. The footnote does apply as it tells you what is on the datasheet.

Again, I disagree. Page 89 only applied while there was no Codex.

Incorrect. The section :"Blood Angels Chapter" listing what datasheets you use for the Blood Angels is applies even though there is a codex. We are told that we can use index entries for wargear that's not in the current index. Therefore, we can use the part of the index that tells us what datasheets in the index apply to the army. If you can reference the datasheets to determine if there are wargear options, you can obviously reference the index that tells you what datasheets you can use. Your assertion that it only applies while there was no Codex is just flat out wrong since we are allowed to go back to determine what datasheets are applicable to the army and may have wargear not currently covered. That part of the index also tells us that the company veterans datasheet can have jump packs, and is still valid for the index entry. It is not invalidated by the Codex

And where does it say that?

You are wrong. Pg. 89 still applies for wargear which is not on the codex datasheets.

The flowchart says you can go back for datasheets that aren't in the current codex or for wargear options that aren't listed in the codex options. This means you have to know what datasheets from the index are applicable. Suggesting you're not allowed to know what datasheets you're allowed to access when you're given a procedure that lets you access the datasheets is incorrect and churlish at the very least.

Guys, he does this in every "can I use my Index thing" thread. You won't convince him, and he won't be right. Best just to leave the thread to peter out.
