Finished the run - I enjoyed it. The pacing dipped occasionally, and it certainly is a "family show"(a Netflix show cutting-away when someone swears? TBH that took me out of the story more than someone saying feth in a family show would have ), but by and large it works well, does what it sets out to do, and manages to avoid the children being too annoying or moronic. Tag time...

What I did particularly enjoy is that this is a perfect example of what I was talking about in the other thread about the MCU regarding adaptations. This version of the show changes *tons* of stuff from the original, not merely updating things where necessary to account for modern science and the public's level of understanding of it, but changing around a lot of fairly major elements of the colonisation mission and the characters, but it still feels faithful to the source material, and a lot of the changes are actually for the better. It feels like the best kind of remake IMO, the kind that feels like the version the original would have been at the time if it could have been.
Making the Robot and the hyperdrive alien tech is a solid move, and I especially liked that despite humanity apparently pinching a technology that can jump around between galaxies with the flick of a switch, the best we managed to do was figure out its normal drive systems were faster than ours and basically bolt it crudely to the Resolute.
Smith's new backstory was an excellent call IMO, as it lets them pitch the character in the same way as the original show without it seeming pointless or silly. Her motivation and psychology make some sense now where before Smith was just evil because they needed him to be evil, and then later comically, ineptly evil because they needed comic relief.
Having a bigger mission with additional characters was also I think a good call, as it allows the viewer a little occasional breathing room either away from Robinsons entirely, or "cutting" their screen time with others - no matter how well they execute the "toubled-but-likable family" dynamic, it will always end up being a little bit sickening if you get too much of it.
Overall my only actual complaint is that they just started to reveal a lot of cool stuff...and then immediately ended on a huge cliffhanger. If we get a second season, that's fine, but Neflix are starting to relax a little on their "never cancel after just one season" attitude so it's not guaranteed.

I am two episodes in and really like how they handled the robot as opposed to the traditional Lost in Space version, and was genious how they had it morph into a less CGI intensive form rather than getting too campy, though the original form was pretty cool. I am hoping Parker Posey can do Dr. smith justice, as I like what I have seen so far of that angle.
Definitely more CW superhero show style than something like The Punisher, but not everything has to be ultraviolent and curse-filled to be fun. I'd say it's along the lines of The 100, which I thought was fine.

Two episodes in and I really must say this is the best of the three versions. Much more like the Swiss Family Robinson than the others.
I was skeptical about Parker Posey's role but having seen it and the way they developed her backstory is really awesome. I like the kids, too, although I think Lacey Chabert's rebellious version of Penny was better - "What's she going to do? Ground me?"

IMO it totally did not stick, but I haven't yet finished it so maybe it picks up at the end. Strong start and them a strong slump with people doing really dumb stuff for no reason in the middle.

Whilst I don't have a bad word to say about it, I'm not sure I feel able to say its good.
It's just a weird, but not unpleasant, limbo of a show. Just sci-fi enough to get my hit, but with enough general melodrama to hold interest of non sci-fi fans. Helluva achievement, if that's what they were aiming for.

It's just a weird, but not unpleasant, limbo of a show. Just sci-fi enough to get my hit, but with enough general melodrama to hold interest of non sci-fi fans. Helluva achievement, if that's what they were aiming for.

Pretty much this. I'm not sitting here actively anticipating the next season like with The Expanse or The Orville, but if & when one comes around I'll watch it.

Yeah, I'm with you. It wasn't great and it wasn't bad. I'd probably watch next season but not get all excited about it the way I would for like, Game of Thrones or Westworld or something like that.

Visuals are great but I didn't care for it. IMO it has the most annoying set of characters since Prometheus. Lots of really dumb choices for supposedly smart scientists, everyone is constantly hostile towards each other and the dysfunctional family in space plot gets old really fast.

The only thing that really didn't *work* for me is the Dr. Smith story... I mean, I understand her rationale but the story around her character didn't really work for me.
Agree. I think it's very well done (effects are excellent) and like the different spin compared to the original TV series and Gary Oldman film.
But, it definitely falls firmly into the 'family friendly, be as un-controversial as possible' category. Although that's not strictly a criticism, I think the show knows what it wants to be and is catering for as wide an audience as possible.
Probably about halfway through far and think the only really fun/interesting character is the stowaway/'doctor smith' character. Most of the rest of the cast may as well be cardboard cut-outs.
I like that each member of the major cast has their own problems they are dealing with but also that they seem to actually be making some kind of slow progress on those problems.
The robots just great.
The ending leaves me excited to see where season 2 goes.

Quite enjoyed it. One of the few shows recently that hooked me enough to binge watch with the wife. I think the first episode is the weakest in many regards and there are definitely some weak bits, but on the whole I really enjoyed it and hope the next season is just as good.
