graven- I've already had the "eye roll" comments from my game group. AoS? Vampire, Necromancer, massive horde of zombies. Mordheim? Vampire, Necromancer, massive horde of zombies. Necromunda? Demagogue and massive horde of zombies cultists.

I just realized I need to add a Witch to keep the theme properly.

monkeytroll- I enjoy bringing out old models. In my childish mind I like to think they are happy for getting to come out and play.

*Apologies for the blurry pics, just noticed it and I can't retake them right now*

This is an actual update where I am putting time into current and active WIP projects. First is my most recent addition to the Flintlock and Flagon Mercenary Company. His name doesn't matter because no one in the warband cares as he'll likely suffer a horrible death and be replaced by some other desperate drunk soon, but for demonstrational purposes I'll call him Douglas.

Next up is some scatter scenery / cover for Mordheim. I have a lot of different things but only 1 cart. A large established city like Mordheim would have had a lot of commerce and be resupplied on a daily basis. I want to reflect that by having more carts and a few more dead horses around. Yes, I know something would eat the horses eventually but for aesthetics I'll have a few different kinds, from skeletal to ewww. For now though I'm working on the carts. You could say I'm putting the cart before the horse.

This I'm imagining as a wine delivery service. When done I'll have a spigot for dispensing and a bung for refilling. I'll also have a harness for the long-absent horses. For the cart frame I used an old RAMF catapult and the seat is from the old Marneus Calgar set. The barrel was purchased online and is about x3 larger than I thought I bought but I'm finding ways to use them.

Here we have Douglas modeling another cart. Cart itself is an old Lance & Laser model, wheels are GW replacements. Boxes (which will have some bottles when it is finished) are from an Italian model company that does a lot of historic and 1/35 models, cannot remember the manufacturer.

Change of direction but still on the Mordheim theme, I have some work done on the werewolf. I removed the original 50mm base and replaced it with a 50mm cobblestone base my buddy Chris made. It was an arduous project removing the original base as it is a single cast model and was worried about either cutting off 1/2 of paw, or breaking the model off at the ankles. Solution was to Dremel it out and then trim it down w/ a hobby knife. I'm happy with the results. Also have a solid base color.

That's it for this one. And as the sun sets on another awesome update, let us pause a moment in remembrance for poor Douglas:

Oh Douglas, we hardly knew ye. Or cared.

Carts are a cool idea for scatter terrain in a Mordheim setting. And great use of the oversized barrel, grog merchants are bound to be popular vendors

monkeytroll- No doubt. Would be fairly popular at my place as well.

Ok, another mix of randomness. First up is a completely unnecessary and involved project- new photo backdrop. I'm playing a fair amount of fantasy these days (AoS and Mordheim) but take all my photos against a Necromunda bulkhead background. Does it really matter? No. But yet, here's my WIP solution to a nonexistent problem:

...and w/ Mr. Grimdark for scale:

The background base is a sheet of field stone from... uhm... some company that makes sheet plastic field stone. The frame is a mix of balsa and basswood, and the doors are plaster recasts of maybe Grendl doors I picked up between '94-'96. I'll also have a cobblestone street surface once this is done for that truly medieval look. Too bad the current LoER terrain competition theme isn't photo backgrounds.

Next is serendipity- I hadn't glued this model when I posted the earlier WIP above because I wanted to paint some part individually. I was moving some things around on my desk, knocked the unglued model over, and this is how it landed. I took this pic before I moved it and then glued the boxes in place without moving the model so I could capture the perfect moment.

Here is is glued in place except the wagon wheel, I still want to be able to paint that before it attaches permanently.

Next is another example of why when my current cats pass on I will not be replacing them. My cat Chloe (aka "YOU **** RRRAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!) decided that the foam tray I had my entire N17 Chaos Cult in would be a wonderful place to take a nap. The tray was on top of the red case that is on top of my GW storage cases
Spoiler:
I have no idea how she got up there, or why, or why she jumped down, but all of this happened in the span of about 10 minutes because I had run upstairs to grab a bite. I heard a "splash- ting" sound from downstairs, met the cat hauling ass up the stairs, and my Cult shattered on the floor. So if you've ever wondered if your ol' buddy Skalk is so unhinged that he would strangle a cat to death with his vengeful bare hands, no.

... but man I'll tell you I sure did think about it.

So tempting to fill a post with feline puns, but I passed my willpower check and so will just commiserate over the furry demon death that befell the cult.

Broken cart is excellent, no matter the provenance.

Background pieces are always cool, keep meaning to do some myself, especially as I've been getting more into my photography the last few years.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the 39 month delay.

Great news! While reclaiming the hobby room from years of neglect, I found THIS!:

Missing for over 3 years, a survivor of the cat-astrophe noted above has returned to the ranks. In honor of its hardship I will not be intentionally removing the cobwebs and cat hair.

So, what have I been up to? A whole lot of not modeling, that's for sure. But recently my buddy Jayce pulled me back in with a few games of AoS before Grogfest (more on that later) but then AoS 3rd Ed dropped and I'm being a whiny grumpass about the rules changes nerfing my Horde armies so I was going to go back into hibernation but then he said we should play some 40K.

If you've followed me at all in the past you know I'm really into Chaos and other icky things, but I've had an IG... er, AM army that hasn't seen play for decades. I decided to pull it out and see what I still have:

I realize now that this pic is missing some additional unit types Servitors and Tech-Priests etc, but it's a good representation of the ridiculousness of my obsessive h̶o̶a̶r̶ "collecting". The new plastics were picked up for a Necromunda scenario that needed PDF, and yes I could have used ones I already had but it was an excuse to buy more stuff.

I was really surprised how much Rogue Trader stuff I have. I have a lot of 2nd Ed as well, which made up my original IG army (RT were used in my Genestealer Cult but have returned to the Light of the Emperor). The Ogryns are a mix of RT that I scored in 95-96 and a bunch of newer ones I got from a friend. Fistfuls of Ratlings from RT and 2nd Ed. There's a unit of Catachans, a bunch of Command models, actual RT Astropath and Fleet Commander, RT Commissars, just so much awesome. So many memories. So much potential for fun in the future

The vehicles I've had since 96-99, haven't bought anything more for them since. Yes, those are original Armorcast Shadowsword and Baneblade. Baneblade still NIB from May 1999.

Right now we're playing 500 pt games with an unchanging core list to get back into things and make sure we have the rules tight. We just started using Stratagems etc. Soon we'll increment to 600, goal is 1,500. Once we're good with our core lists we'll start getting creative. I'm having a great time:

And I've been modeling! Like first time since September '18. Here's a group I've started on. From bits...

...to mostly built models!

Also, I need help from my Dakka buds. I cannot remember the manufacturer of these heads and want to buy more. They aren't Mantic (that I could find) and they aren't Pig Iron. Any assistance is greatly appreciated:

That's it for this one. I'll be around as best I can, but it's good to be back on Dakka. Looking forward to connecting with old friends and making new ones. Leave a comment or drop a PM if you'd like.

Close but sadly "no", I checked both. I really feel like this was a Mantic thing, but I searched their site and couldn't find it. Pig Iron has a nice set that is comparable, but I really want theses because I already have some.

Also, hello! Thanks for stopping by. We'll catch up pretty quick I'm sure.

Hello all! Thank you for stopping by and saying hello. It's good to be remembered.

Theo- For sure being careful with those models. As Briaincj has in his tagline, I'm sure that resin isn't made out of vitamins and stuff.

Ragsta- I've never checked to see if I'm on the international "no fly" list thanks to my seditious Chaos Cults but it's not something I feel comfortable trying. If only there was a way to send packages between countries. Oh well.

Cam- Good to see you're still at it. I checked the work on your current thread, it's staggering. Such great work.

Llamahead- Checking Stargrave, thank you for the tip.

A few cool things to share on this update. Two games in a week, and the the first actual genuine modeling I've done in a long time.

My full-time opponent is my IRL friend Jayce. Jayce got me back into playing 40K after I had a fit about Hordes being gutted in AoS v3. I was nervous about it because I'd rather have a great memory of awesome times past than a mediocre reality. After 5 games I'm feeling comfortable saying that I'm back to playing and enjoying 9th Ed (9th! 9th!!! I used to play Rogue Trader!!!)

The game we played on 10/05 was horrifying. After a vicious bloodbath the battle ended with three Astra Militarum victors (a Commissar and 2 Guard). The remaining two Eldar escaped with their lives, but nothing more. The battlefield was covered with broken torn bodies and smoking wreckage. In mundane terms, I won based on VP (3 to 2) but I will say it did not feel like victory.

I didn't take any pics of the battle but I did snap a couple of the setup:

After that battle we increased our list points to 615 from 500. 615 specifically because I needed that much to add a Hellhound and a new turret weapon on my Leman Russ. I don't know how familiar you are with Astra Militarum, but there's a main gun options called Punisher Gatling Cannon. It is Heavy 20, meaning you roll 20d6 when firing. 24" range, ST 5, AP 0. Add the Lascannon and 2 Heavy Bolter sponsons and you've got 27d6. But wait, there's more! If the vehicle doesn't move, you can fire the main gun twice. 47d6. To put that into perspective, it's like rolling this:

Once adding the cannon to my list, I knew exactly what to do next. I logged onto ebay and sent our old bud Machinator a message and said I needed an awesome cannon to kill a lot of Eldar with. His recommendation was of course absolutely perfect:

Within moments I realized that indeed it has been quite a while since I've done any modeling:

Once that crisis was resolved, I got to actual work. The turret base is from a Leman Russ but I didn't have the armor for it so I used my bits box to cob together the best I could. I think it came out ok. The paint was not easy either, being that I painted the main tank in 1999, I didn't have an exact color match. I made up for it by making a bit of a camo pattern.

It was a super fast and sloppy job to build and put color on for the game the next day, but it's good enough for now and looks great in the carrying case. The most important part for me was how it would perform in game. 24 hours later I found out. First shooting turn with the vehicle having moved unleashed 27 shots into an Eldar bike squadron resulting in the squad wiped out with 5 overkill wounds. This gun mixed with the other synergies in my army shut the game down by the end of turn 2. To be fair, Jayce had horrifyingly poor luck with outrageously improbable dice rolls for absolutely everything. But still, facing this, how could anyone stand a chance?

That's it for this one, at work and lunch is over . Thanks for reading, I'll be back sooner than later

gobert- My philosophy as well, though I have finished games with entire squads intact. I'm a huge fan of the Gatling cannon. I'm looking forward to chopping up Tyranids once my buddy Fionn starts playing again.

ValhallanWinter- Absolutely! I have 7 Leman Russ chassis, currently 3 Battle Cannons, 3 Demolisher Cannons, and 1 Punisher Gatling Cannon. I intend to create turrets for every weapon that qualifies for the Grinding Advance rule. I don't know how long that will take but I'm going to do it over time (a "grinding advance", if you will). The Battle Cannon doubletap is still pretty sweet all on its own for busting open basically anything and doesn't take up point resources I could spend elsewhere. And while it's an option available I'm not a huge fan of Plasma because plasma. But yes, more turrets to come as I find them in bitz lots or buy them from Machinator.

Syro- I'm really enjoying this, and NOT just because I'm 4-1 (hold on Cam, I'm getting to you next). My friend Jayce is an amazing person, truly my honor to know him and call him friend. He's fun to be around, is the most even tempered person I know, and is remarkably intelligent. All around an awesome guy. If it were not for him I'd still be wallowing in whatever life-wasting activity I'd be doing right now.

Cam- Glad you liked the report. I'm unsure what I could do to convince you other than assure you that yes I have been winning with IG. I know, I know... I didn't believe it either and I was there. If have to provide video evidence and sworn testimony from my opponent I'll see what I can come up with.

No update right now but I have next weekend (22-24) off so I'm restocking my superglue and have bid on an eBay item. I'm hoping to get another squad of Cadians ready to play, and maybe (maybe) have a surprise.

Thanks Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll, I appreciate the compliment. It had been a long time since I'd done any modeling.

So today I received and email notifying me I had a PM on Dakka. It was a reply to a PM I had sent over 4 years ago. Odd, but I replied back and since I was here I took a look around and found a lot of the old gang is still here, which was nice to see.

I'm unsure why exactly I have such long gaps of inactivity here. I don't have any particular reason, it just happens. That said, Dakka is always on my mind, I keep my DCM current, and most importantly- I document my hobby process for the next time I log on.

I went through my photo dump folders tonight and found I have over 400 pictures I've taken of different projects, batreps, and general hobby-related items. It will take a while to get those uploaded but I'm feeling like hanging out here for a while so I'm looking forward to the task.

I'll start with the oldest and move forward. First is a jump back in time even before I started posting on Dakka again in 2021 with the AoS game I mentioned. My last ever game of AoS as it turned out. June ‎15, ‎2021. I'm playing Warherd, my buddy Jayce is playing Chaos Dwarfs. I didn't take a lot of pics, but the batrep is as follows: I unpacked my army, set up, suffered a massive beatdown, packed up my army, went home, 3rd edition was released, I quit.

Fast forward to Wednesday ‎July ‎14 2021 and I just told that I'd play a game of 40K with him. I hadn't played 40K in years, like maybe 1/2 way through 7th Ed. I went down to the Mekshop to pull out my IG and see what needed to do to put a 500 pt skirmish unit together. It was only then that I realized how far I had fallen from my hobby passion:

Many hours later and it was back to it's usual "work ready" condition:

So as I noted above, I started this because I told Jayce that I'd play 40K with him. Obviously the most sensible thing to get working on for my first game of 40K in years was, of course, fantasy graveyard terrain.

Unsurprisingly no further progress has happened since those pictures.

Thanks for looking. Next post will be a bit more catch up to where I was when I last posted, and from there I'll work forward toward current day which is the largest and most absorbing project I've worked on since my Plague Marines. .
