Wait, Mako was Japanese?
Also: lolwut*
*huh, turns out both characters are German, despite having American and English accents

I just saw it. Really dumb movie. Pretty fun.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Yeah, I've seen the first move 3-4 times but only a single watch in original language, and completely forgot about the accents. Re-watched yesterday and I agree, the aussies do have a funny accent
But Charlie Day's voice is the most annoying thing, while Burn Gorman with his english accent can be ok for a german that learned english, Charlie Day sounds really too american. But also in the italian dubbed version Charlie Day doesn't have any accent, while the other scientist has a slight german accent.
Mako is clearly portrayed as a japanese woman, in the flashback about her childhood she appeard as a tokyo citizen. And her accent is quite tipycal, she also has a few lines in japanese. Her manners look 100% japanes as well.

I think that must have been sarcasm - the only Mako could be more Japanese is if she wore a kimono...

Yeah I was just teasing about Mako.
The notion that Newt and Hermann are German dudes strikes me as "invented for comics" type stuff.

Sure, bad accents, but they mention their country of origin at least a couple of times.
The bad accents coupled with the prominent bulldog.
Yeah, I realized as I was typing the first sentence that I might have been informed through ancillary materials, and tried to deflate my own statement with the last sentence.
Their accents didn't register as odd or confusing for me. Those are the standard American Imitating an Australian accents, as easily recognized as the standard American Imitating Jack Nicholson voice that sounds not much like Jack Nicholson. The American Imitating a Brit accent sounds much more "Harry Potter" than "Fosters", and Americans Imitating Scots sound like Braveheart.

It's a weird mix of Australian, New Zealander with a healthy dose of Kath and Kim mixed together. To any Australian is sounds like nails down a chalkboard. It needs to stop happening.

You should be an American and hear how wierd it sounds when an Aussie actor plays a character with an American accent. The actress who plays Trish on Jessica Jones is especially bad, when she sounds so much better with her natural accent, but sounds like her nose is stopped up and says lots of sounds strangely when speaking 'Murikan.

I'm sure it will, once the world stops thinking that all Americans wear cowboy hats and own guns....
(OK, maybe not that last part...)

I saw the movie yesterday. It was fun like the first one, if not quite as good. Just goes to show that a movie can be crazy over-the-top and still be awesome! Here's hoping for a third installment!

Bit of a disappointment for me, not terrible but felt more like an power rangers movie rather then a pacific rim movie.
