I would say Macron's En Marche is the better example. But PR is definitely superior to first past the post.

Ontario Hydro sell off
Mississauga gas plant cancellation
e-Health
Ornge

So many scandals where Liberal buddies made off like bandits with fat sacks of cash for nothing. They had no hope of forming another government, and now they've lost official party status, making them politically irrelevant for the next 5 years.

The NDP still have the Bob Rae problem. If they actually ran an election platform that didn't promise everything under the sun in terms of social programs, they'd probably win, but they scare off the vote of everyone who can actually do math.

I'd forgotten about the gas plants.

The Ornge and E-Health were the result of poor management, I agree, but the core "taking care of people" I get behind. These kinds of things plague a party that attempts progressive policy as they're venturing into the unknown.

I think that's probably the key reason the NDP got left in the cold. Liberals got voted out for "failed" or poorly managed attempts at those policies and the NDP was pushing further into the progressive territory. The PCs basically ran a platform of "We're going to let things settle for a bit. Oh yeah, and tax cuts!"

The NDP are traditionally Liberal ideas without financial restraint. If this PC government goes all Mike Harris on social services, and the NDP can avoid looking like asshats, AND their next platform doesn't promise the moon and the stars... They could have a shot next election.

Weirdly enough, when the PCs did the same thing (and worse) this election, they cruised to an easy win.

Both of them were good ideas, but assigned to corrupt management without oversight. The Liberal party seems to attract those types.

Agreed, though it's a tall order for the NDP. There are some wonderful, compassionate people in the NDP but government has to be somewhat realistic, people are only willing to pay so much taxation before kicking a government out. The Wynne gov't hit that point in the last election, only idiotic platforms on the part of the PC party kept them from winning that one.

At least having the NDP in official opposition is a good scene. They've always had some great debaters to lambaste the current government for being jerks.

Yeah, that's why I generally vote Liberal. At the risk of generalizing an entire Country, I think that most Canandians share a similar desire to take care of each other, but the amount we're willing to personally invest shifts with the tides of politics.

Spending too much? Shift to PC. Good times aplenty / Libs too stingy / look incompetent? Shift to NDP.

Do both at the same time? PC majority / NDP opposition. Truly, "the people" vote Liberal so long as they don't feth things up really badly and don't put an unelectable schmuck at the front.

Dion, Ignatieff, I'm looking at you both.
