Thanks
There's plenty that could be improved, and having painted a few miniatures now I think I have even more respect for the standard you guys achieve!

My plan is to paint the TAC squad next, before moving on to the final two characters...

Work's turning out to be busy this week so I haven't had much chance to paint. I did manage to dry brush and shade my TAC squad though, and also convert the sergeant to have a combi-melta

Seconding LDP, you're looking good already man!! Loving the paintjobs so far!
If you're not feeling r=transfers for the knee/s, maybe just colour white and add a squad marking to tie them together? real simple but adds another focal point for the front view? My ultras don't have a trim, but have white helmets and a black knee guard on the right if you're looking at them head on...
I also noticed you left the bolter casings silver? this is nice; although it's a good opportunity to add a spot colour such as black, dark brown or a muted sage green?
sweet jobs so far man, It's a pleasure observing your progress

All good suggestions, I just don't want to add too much detail beyond my current skill level. I guess I can always come back and do knee transfers and bolter casings later...

Cool - although I've just started embedding photos from Flickr (see my sig) instead of uploading them to the gallery so I don't think this blog qualifies any more...

TAC squad sergeant in Mk8 armour with the Mk7 armoured heavy and special marines.
I'll be painting the remaining 7 bolter marines in 2 batches - Mk6 armour and Mk7 armour.

I'm back home and have just dry brushed and shaded the Terminator Captain. The family are away this week so I'm planning on 4 evenings painting
I've also ordered some heavy support for my next project after I'm done

Looking forward to some progress! Always satisfying to have some free evenings lined up. Heavy support sounds exciting too. I get such secondhand excitement when I hear that people are awaiting deliveries

I shan't be opening it until I've finished painting the rest of the TAC squad and the Terminator Captain though...

Did First Strike come with any little scenario book? I played through the ones in the Age of Sigmar equivalent and it was actually fun. Since you got them painted up, why not find someone to play them with? And in-game play shots are a great way to show off miniatures as they look at table top distance for your thread.

Yes First Strike comes with 4 missions. I've played through them twice with a mate to get back into the swing of things.
In-game (staged) shot on page 1 here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/758675.page#10055711
We've since played 2 full WH40K 500 point games - Ultramarines vs Tyranids.

Yes that's the whole squad now.
I'm taking the day off tomorrow so I'm aiming to make some progress on the Terminator Captain and maybe build the Whirlwind too...

Looking forward to seeing what you do with them. And if that’s the squad, it’s time for the group shot!

So now I'm all caught up :thumbsup
Brother Castor himself is remaining unpainted until he joins my army list (possibly as a Lieutenant).
I built the Whirlwind too - what a great build
I've posted on the Painting and Modelling sub-forum for some advice:

Captain turned out great.
Just a friendly reminder, you die when you finish your last unpainted mini. There is a reason us old grognards have large piles of shame; life insurance!

Good job I bought the Whirlwind then!
Castor can be my life insurance policy once that's painted (unless I follow GamerGuy's suggestion of painting him as a Lieutenant)
