This will be my entry: a Chaos Gladiator. Experienced fighters that Chaos certainly can use in battle.
Very early WIP, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on him. I don't want to be entirely historically correct, but it's inspired by the so called Retiarius, the gladiator armed with a net and a trident.

1. Aren't the trident spikes just a little too large? (not going for a realistic look, but still......). I probably will replace the top part of the shaft with an "unwrapped" one.
2. Other thoughts? (don't mind the base, it'll be a round one in the end.

It looks nice. And the idea is cool.
Maybe his pose is a little bit static and I am not sure, but the hooks seem to point upwards, I think downwards should be better to get one caught.

And I like the size of the trident.

Hooks definitely should be the other way round as if they were being thrown over head

Good luck everyone

Nice to see those rollers in Action Modock, I've looked at them several times before but not gone for them just yet.

I'll just be doing a fairly simple one since I want to do a few other things this month which will limit the time I have to paint, an Ork Painboy. I feel they ago "above and beyond" the call of duty to "improve" and help their fellow Orks. Many a time a wounded Ork has just come in for a simple leg amputation and found he's got a new leg and a new arm and eye and had a dreaded squig brain transplant because the Painboy was in the mood for one.

After another day thinking about this, I'm gonna change my entry.
You guys were right about the hooks. That's not much of a change, but I probably also want to re-pose his legs as his pose is quite static compared to the net being thrown. I'm not afraid to take that challenge, but it'll take too much time for this contest if I also want to give it a decent paintjob......
I'll have to come up with something else or use the skeleton centaur which I planned to use earlier this year.

Very frustrating day. I built and primed a bunch of infantry, and I started blocking out the metallics when I remembered this theme. So I went to take a picture of my Alphas. Then I butter fingered my tablet, which Rube Goldberged into my set up and FLIPPED my models over. Thing is, they are magnetized, so they got crushed under a 2 lb baking pan.

Two hours of finding all the bits, repairing and cleaning them up, repriming, and here we are:

It gave me perverse joy to pose them like a 90s boy band.

On a side note, I'm actually quite impressed by how impact resistant gesso is. If these were spray primed, I doubt they'd stay in one piece after the beating they took. (AdMech are all about the spindly bits, so unthinned acrylic gesso really helps bulk out the features while giving it a very toothy and durable coating.)

Thanks Midget Gems! There's more where they came from.

LDP - that's a heck of a quick start. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the sword.

Managed a good session yesterday and blocked out most of the colours. Left to right we've got Kail Vibius of the Marines Errant leading the Kill Team (based on a piece of art from the Deathwatch RP books), a Death Spectre, an unspecified purple and gold chapter, one of the Marines Malevolent, and a Mantis Warrior (a sniper veteran of the Tranquility campaign, hence the green spike camo on the shoulder pad):

Some Wip pics of Heckler mini. Changed the orange recipe a bit. It's more on the orange side previous recipe was more reddish in tone.

Great contrast and smooth transitions as always, Modock. That orange has a nice earthiness to it, too. Another bunch of amazing minis on the way, I'm sure!

I love your gladiator conversion, Tim121.

Also, I agree. That pose is perfect, Suzuteo.

Still don't know what I'm going to paint this month, yet. Tossing up between a harlequin killteam, a DE scourge and the new Knight Incantor that comes on the magazine - I'm not usually a fan of Stormcast but I just love that pose! I think I'm leaning towards the last.
Anyhow, back to the renovations...only another couple of months to go...
...oooh, or maybe some death guard...

Gonna work on this one:

Initially wanted to use it for the 3 colour maximum month, painting it up in an etherical/ghostly look, but that took too much time and was a bridge too far.
Stripped it from all of the paint and replaced the horns. Going for a normal bone painting scheme now.

Thanks Chris, yeah it's a bit more brownish than before. I'm happier with this tone.

Well, it looks like real life is getting in the way of painting again this month, and in the most unfun way that can be... My dad passed away so I'm going home to Canada for the next two weeks. I won't be bringing paint and miniatures with me, so I'll see you all next month for the next challenge... I do want to turn in a "armies on parade" board this year at my local GW, so I will have a lot of work to do in september...

Thanks.

Once again I've left my painting too late and I'm leaving the country again tomorrow. So I declare I'm gonna speedpaint this boi by the end of today. I'm holding myself to having a picture of him finished (except for the bade which can be completed tomorrow morning once the texture paint is dry) shortly after midnight. see you then

Condolences to you and yours, ChaosDad, I'm really sorry to hear that.

@queen_annes_revenge: A very interesting model. If possible, could you make sure at least one of your final pics is of the model separate from the diorama, just so people know exactly what they've voting on come the end of the month?

OP should be all up to day, sorry I've been a bit lax this month but God of War has been eating all my free time for the last two weeks!

My own entry also hasn't arrived yet, it's a model I pre-ordered a while ago that was supposed to be shipping any day now, so hopefully it gets here in time for me to do something with it. And if you want a somewhat cryptic/obscure clue: Dagger, dagger, dagger....

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

ChaosDad: condolences, funerals are never fun, especially for close relatives.

So, WIP on the kitties. Not happy with the skin, and not sure what to do with the polearm shaft, and the sheild would not wet blend. Kinda like how the red came out though, even if the orange didn't go the way I wanted.

At the end of the day, I'm a very slow painter. And even when consciously trying to paint quickly, stuff takes a long time. So the jetpack is almost done, but the chaplain is still a few hours of highlighting away from completion. At least I tried though, unlike last month. The old adage (that I just invented) has proven true once again, 'there is no way of getting a smooth coat of ulthuan grey'. Over three pots of the stuff it's always so lumpy that it needs to be thinned down to milk, then it doesn't have smooth coverage, even if it has smooth texture. I should really just buy the valleho equivalent at this point.

Also condolences chaosdad, never a good time.

I'm coming in with the photographs for my final submission. Going to end up having these 3 be my finished product for this month. good luck everybody!
