I personally feel that the Eldar were able to conquer and tame the 3 original Chaos gods while the War in Heaven or with the Old ones help.

Khaine it's just the Eldar version of Khorne and the way they deal with battlelust. Isha may be their version of Nurgle gifts (as Gav thorpe novels suggest Eldar can recover from grievous wounds with some psychic help and a strong force of will)
and Morai-heg the version of Tzeentch (She represents knowledge at any cost, even cutting her own hand and may be represented with the Farseer disciplines)

So they were pretty safe from falling into Chaos hands aside the ocasional demonic possesion with careless youngsters exploring their psy abilities to soon but all went south with Slaanesh.

Falling into any of the old Chaos Gods hands will quickly turn into allowing Slaanesh to take the control, the Bloodlust will devolve into enjoying the slaugther, the Future scrying may turn in pride due over confidence or plotting for personal gain as examples.

That's why the Path and being lost on it for some of them have more dire consecuences like Farseers crystallizing, and Exarchs becoming single entities within their armour devoted to martial perfection. And also the reason because they can't make deals with the Original Chaos gods as humans sine they see them as something different.
