People are moaning about this? Its one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen from GW. Who cares if it costs a bit of money? Have you only just realised this hobby is expensive? As an ork player surely not.

The set should have a saving. I'll be buying multiple, despite having too many bikes as it is.

Yep yep yep. It’s amazing.

The sprues that we've seen pictures of make it seem like yes, that is what it will be. There's a yellow sprue which looks to be something different to the buggy (red sprue).
There's a black sprue that is scenery(including what looks like barricades with flippin' ramps in them!).

While I'm happy to see one of the older plastic kits get revamped, I'm not "OMFG" in love with the style. It's Orky alright, but it's also a bit too rat-rod inspired for my tastes. I will reserve judgment till we see the full kit and options, but it's smacks a bit too much of Human/Terra style history.

I'm more anxious to see the other options coming out. We all know bikes and light bike vehicles suck pretty hard right now, I wonder if the Ork codex will give them some proper teeth. I've never once seen a genuine Kult of Speed, etc. on the table.

I'm kinda expecting/hoping bikes and similar styled vehicles get some kind of negative to hit modifier when they move a certain distance or if enough of them move at once.

I woke up thinking about this today and tbqh Orktober cannot come soon enough. I was never really much of a buggies/bikes guy when it came to Orks, but I think that’s largely cos the kits never really tickled my fancy. I suspect this might all be about to change.

People have a lot of pent up resentment over GW and their handling of orks and the fanbase. Now that its finally time for the orks that resentment can't just dissipate. We need to hate on something...Stupid but true.

I personally am lukewarm about this kit but I will definitely be buying because its an ork kit. But a lot of people are acting like my resentment to GW for shafting us for so long is now misplaced because finally they are showing us love...

We know that this ork buggy kit has been ready to go for at least 2 years and it was featured in the rumour engine last year shortly before 8th was released.

Well eldars had to wait for bikes for a decade

Hopefully price isn't too bad. Something like armigers I can live with. Especially if you can get some discount initially with the speed freek game.

Everything in 40k references real history; that's unavoidable and a deliberate choice on the part of the designers. Sticking to Orks, they used to walk around in German-style stahlhelms and greatcoats, riding on Kettenrads.

I was joking about with a friend that the new buggy looked like it was straight out of mad max, turns out that it is.

Spoiler:

He then said that clearly the ork one was better because he had more spikes, but then I remembered the tetanus mobile that was in the film for a whole minute before being destroyed.

Spoiler:

though this one doesn't have the dual engine that the upper image and buggy share

Huh 30 quid a buggy? These things will likely be cheap and running packs of 5-10. Thats like 150-300 quid for a squad.
No thank you. 20 quid maybe.

I'd love it to be £20 but given how little that gets you in modern GW pricing I'd be amazed.

I could maybe see 2 in a box for £45 - but that seems unlikely. £25-30 has to be the conservative bet.

Lots of copies of Gorkamorka will almost certainly be the way to go if you do want 5-10.

And that´s why more and more people shy away from mass battle systems like 40K to play skirmish games. GW has priced them out of the game.

If you have an Ork army and you want to add one of these (and, at the danger of being greedy, hopefully an expanded kult of speed selection) then its not that bad. This gets a bit "my dad's poorer than your dad" "my dad's Australian" but I don't think £150~ a year is that much of an investment.

The cost issue is more when you start. If you have a group that "only plays" 1750-2000 points, its daunting to spend £600+ potentially before you even get a game.

Given however 40k is doing well, and the new edition brought a lot of players in who were happy to play at a lower points level (something which kill team is probably aimed at perpetuating) this is less of an issue.

depends on how you start. I started with an assault on black reach box in 5th. it cost me $99 (now starters are more granted, but the start collecting are close) since I was playing orks I just proxied things for other things nad people knew I was new and did not care so much. I had 20 boyz, 10 ard boyz (the space marine tac squad) 5 killa kans (terminators) 1 deffdred (dreadnaught) 3 koptas, a warboss, 5 nobz and a wierdboy (captain) then made 3 to scale knex model battlewagons and boom I had a playable army.

was it all gw.. nope, was it perfect... nope, but that said it was tolerated (and coimplimented on as I said it was all looted and dded orky bits to things) while i bought a new kit every few months then built and paint.

Wrong. I have been doing lots of demo games in the last two years and the majority of people starting in the hobby widely preferred skirmish games because of low model count. Being in the field and getting to know potential players beats dubious published numbers in any case.

We have no idea on cost or stats yet but given the size of the model I suspect that it will be somewhat tougher (and therefore more expensive in points/power level) than the previous Buggy/Trakk.

At least I hope so. It's always depressing to spend a ton of hours painting a model to a great standard, picking out all the details, only to have it wiped by a Tac marine sneezing in it's general direction.

My experience has been the opposite. I don't enjoy skirmish level games, and a lot of people I play with enjoy games where you actually have an army more.

Of course, it's expensive to get one's force up there, but we generally wind up having multiple players with small collections play together to equal one player's large collection. In fact, from the people I've brought in, there's been a general consensus that 2v2 at 1500 or 3v3 at 2k is much more fun than two 1v1's at 500 or 1k.

It's honestly a matter of taste and local pressure. There's a big difference between a skirmish game and a massed battle game, and it's not just in the price. 40k is a nice sort of middle ground, where you still have an appreciable amount of troops, but you don't have to shift to having tiny models.

Anyway, I thought the advertisement for it was pretty funny. I don't play Orks, but the way it reminded me of a high-end german luxury car commercial just made me laugh out loud. I think we need to see one with a battlewagon wading through rivers and towing absurd loads, like american truck commercials now.

Truck commercials are lifestyle advertising at it's most hilarious and over the top. "GRR. I'm a MANLY MAN, who drives a TRUCK. i can see the new ad now... soft rock music starts, a big mek opening to it towing a stompa on a trailer, zoom out to see its also pushign the 12 land raiders. zoom out farhter to show they are trailing dust in a desert. then enter the guitar solo just shredding it as it shows this too is all one large trailer/conveyer towed by another battlewagon. driven by terry cruze with a mohawk. zoom out farther as the lyrics come in they are driving around a space hulk. it crashed to the ground, the battlewagons and buggies shoot out and a waaaggghhh is heard as it fades to black.

No thank you. 20 quid maybe.

I think GW's learned quite a bit from the Ironstrider debacle.

Armigers are roughly in that same size/bracket and came two to a box for $75USD vs $49 for 1.
I started speculating that buggies would come like Armigers, as in $75USD for 2 rather than a high price for 1. Apparently it's been repeated on some sites. I think it more likely that will be the case than not, although the Akhelian Allopex($45 for 1) might prove me wrong.

2 for 75-90 bucks seems a pretty good way to do things, proably good for GW's bottem line but keeps us happy.

I'm just glad to see the new buggy. I will be grabbing the set when I know more. It would be great if it was customizable right out of the box but I know us ork players will take care of that no matter what. I guess kill team is on the back burner for me know. Two for $75 I can live with. We finally got what we wanted time to enjoy and wait for more.

Game preference aside, GW sales are up. Unless GW is committing series financial crimes there is nothing dubious about those numbers.

They say in their own financial reports that having products at a variety of price ranges was important and both 40k and AoS have gotten very low model count starter sets (Storm of Sigmar, First Strike, Storm Strike) and as well they've released things like Shadespire, Kill Team, Necromunda and so on.

GW is very smart to offer lower model count en ramps.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
