Skirmish is a perfect way to get a grasp of the general rules while using a small force, but I guess 700 could work if you shrink the table to about 4' x 4'

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Skirmish is different, no minimum unit sizes, skirmish formation allowed for any unit below minimum size.

Warhammer skirmish normally has forces of about 200-300pts.

I'm aware, but it lends to understanding the mechanics of the combat charts and the like.

Then, as you build your army, you try other units out in Skirmish until you hit 1,000

Yeah I looked over those and also the Warband rules too. I expect to try out the rules for both soon. I actually might do more of each versus the actual Warhammer game.

One thing you could consider early, is to get one or two special characters.

If you want a large game and combo Empire, Dwarfs and Wood Elves to fight it, it makes sense that you have a very powerful leader like Karl Franz to lead the combined army.

Likewise Archaon says so is a reason to have daemons, warriors and beastmen all lined up together.

Some factions like Lizardmen are hard to make common ground with, but if dwarfs, humans and elves are fighting alongside each other, having lizardmen appear from the flank and join up too makes more sense than if any of those armies were alone.

So finally my Saurus hero and Skink shaman arrived. Both the old metal kind. I love both. I really like the skinks. I am going to make a Skink hero with the leftovers from my Battalion set that I am not using.

And in addition to WFB, I am eager to try these guys out in skirmish or Warband rules.

I am actually surprised how much I like the Lizardmen. When I first saw the early versions of them from that old starter set (5th?), I thought they were lame. As I have collected more of the figures, I really appreciate the amazon look to them. They might be one of my favorite armies when it comes time to paint them.

on the forum. Obviously

Yeah, lizardmen are great. Its a pity what GW did to them.
They turned them into these memory creatures made of spirit energy with equipment like "stardrake shields", because god forbid they are equipped with just shields and aren't special snowflakes.

Mordheim question: Does anyone know if they created or tested out any rules for Lizardmen in Mordhiem's Town Cryer? I know the Suarus are supposed to be rather dull, but I imagine the skinks would be fun.

I only have the Best of Town Cryer, and I don't remember seeing anything on Lizardmen in the annual and Empire of Flames. Maybe there were some rules released for them in a Town Cryer that weren't super popular?

They absolutely did, but unfortunately I don't have my copy anymore. Have a look at that OneDrive link over at Classichammer, they may have it.

If it existed at the time there is a Mordheim gang of it. EWither an officila one or an unofficial one.

The only mainstream armies ghat had no official warband one way or another were Chaos Dwarfs and Ogre Kingdoms.

You can get resource here:

In order to fit all factions in at some point is best stops being Mordheim and becomes a generic skirmish ruleset.

Found them! Town Cryer 11! Freakin awesome!

I swear, I love how I have so many ways to play with the same miniatures.

So impressed with the creativity and effort GW put into Warhammer back around in the days of 6th. These old articles and books is by far the most interesting stuff I am reading these days.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Try and find a copy of the 5th edition army books because they were filled with fluff. Though ignore the rules 6th was the second major improvement of the game rules thanks to Tuomas Pirinen. 5th also had a number of very characterful scenario packs that turn up from time to time and are available on .pdf anyway.
Such as Perilous Quest and Idol of Gork which can still be used as backdrop to later editions games.
Spoiler:

I loved Idol of Gork, its a fairly low key, not epic continent shattering event, but full of flavour. An empire lord wanting to secure a trade route through the badlands foolishly dismantles a statue of the greenskin gods to build a watchtower to aid his caravans through bandit country. This unites the previously disparage greenskins in the wasteland and it becomes a desperate battle for survival in several linked scenarios.

The other ancient gem is this:

3rd and 6th were the two big move forward editions, with the subsequent volumes extensions of them. Though 8th made enough changes that it can also claim to be seated alongside them.

3rd edition from 1987 was the last edition to properly formulate all the known army lists, and look at the fluff globally. Also the artwork and characterisation is excellent. Well worth collecting, as is the RPG book released at the same time and the two seminal Chaos expansions still referred to today: Lost and the Damned and Slaves to Darkness.

If a 3P model maker wanted to filch money from me easily, they'd make some non-cardstock versions of the terrain from those campaign packs. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

I played this campaign with a friend of mine last year, and I documented it in a german tabletop forum.
I wrote a fluff text for each side and each battle, posted the army lists, and added pictures.

I know it will be not that interesting for non-german speakers, but I hope the pictures talk for themselves.

Actually, we had so much fun playing the campaign, that we decided to do another one this year, the Tears of Isha campaign. If I could only finish these high Elves faster...

Tears of Isha would be on my short list if I had Dark Elves. I guess I could always just have Lizzies VS High Elves.

As Lizardmen specifically are listed as an example in the Campaign Book, with army selection rules per battle, you can easily do so!

Your lucky day:

See it/buy it here:

https://www.momminiaturas.com/escenografía/

I did an order from MOM Miniaturas including this order two months back, its as impressive as I hoped it would be and jaw droppingly cheap. There are some mould lines at the back where the mould halves are misjoined creating an overlap but its fixable and only on the stonework.

For orc huts and Empire buildings there are too many potential sources to list.
