I guess you disapprove of supermarket own brand products as well...

If they wanted to be really cash in they would also do AI scale versions

I just wish people who do third party things for GW games would put more of their own aesthetic spin on things. I'm sure it is possible to make 28mm scale anachronistic scifi planes without copying the GW style so obviously.

Why should GW be the only beneficiary of using other peoples design ideas?

They have even used other peoples existing aircraft designations for their models. Certainly the Maurauder is very derivative of WW2 american medium bombers.

They are, but only in a very vague way. Also WW2 planes are historic objects. It is not quite the same.

If GW/FW wants to make products that are overpriced (ie the marauder, because $500 AUD for a single resin model that does not come with a ton of optional parts/details and extras let alone not guaranteed to be warped/bent is a bloody wrought.

They can sell them to whoever they want, but should not be surprised if people want to make similar models and sell them for cheaper.

They don't own the style or aesthetic (which I do not personally like). The the planes are made to look like GW/FW planes so some people will buy them instead, but some people will buy them as well as FW ones. You're not necessarily losing sales.

The Neptune and the Stalker look pretty nice, although I'd say that is because they look inordinately un-brick like.

Although I'd say the Neptune is an interesting craft, is it a submarine hunter/recon craft/bomber/transport or what?

Stalker is pretty cool, can see it acting as a light and cheap ground attack.

If GW/FW want to make a market and can not fill it so what if 3rd party steps in? If GW was small they'd not care so much, because they did not when they were small.

Do I need to keep going? I could, but I don't really have five hours to sit down and type out the thunderous litany of things GW have outright pinched from other IPs, nevermind the nigh countless examples of utterly transparent "inspiration" and "remixes" that just mash together multiple pinched concepts.

And I don't begrudge them it, it's fine. Sometimes a bit cheeky, but fine. But it's also fine when it gets done to them.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Once these are in retail I'll happily throw money at them.

As for the IP issue...

Dieselpunk blocky ships are hardly a copyrightable unique concept.

Who do you think produces supermarket own brands ? Do you think Asda is making its own tins of beans ? No they are produced by Heinz/cross and Blackwell/branston/HP.

I'm surprised people think the FW aircraft are derivative. I think they're mostly quite unique.

On the one hand, FW aircraft give me "vibes" of various aircraft, but on the other hand when you actually examine them they achieve that vibe without actually copying design features. Other people might even get different vibes from them.

Someone mentioned the Marauder is derivative of WW2 american medium bombers, but how? It has a very unique planform, it has a tailplane that doesn't look like any american medium bomber that I am picturing, it has an engine layout, canopy shape, and fuselage cross section that I'm struggling to link to any specific WW2 US medium bomber. And those are the features which I use to identify aircraft.

It might have the vibe of a WW2 US medium bomber, but I don't think it's derivative.

All of these look, for me at least, way better than the Forge World aircraft (most of which barely look like they could take flight in the first place).

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

I'd call it a lightning bolt! Kind of wish I had backed this, hope they manage to make it to regular retail like the Mortian guy did.

That's certainly my hope too. Seems like fulfillment has been a nightmare but he's kept at it.

Sorry for the necromancy, but it looks like this will never be done. There will be STLs though.

It's a shame, I really think if he'd done this a year later as just STLs it could have succeeded.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1521768739/tks-28mm-fighter-aircraft-wave-1/posts/3204503

Due to some life changing events all cast and printed items in que will be sent out and what hasn’t been completed will be refunded or STLs distributed as soon as possible.

I uploaded the images here in case the site goes poof. Nice inspiration for kitbashers or modelers. I got a lot of inspiration for my de-orked air force from it.

Man, those look nice.

Hopefully the STLs can be made available for purchase, I'd sure love to try and print a couple.

Or hopefully someone will pick up the gauntlet and do more sci-fi grimdark WWII/Cold War planes. I really like some of those 50s jet designs and would love to see them adapted for 40k, AI or whatever.

Again a shame this campaign wasn't STLs only, then it would have been trivial to rescale them for AI, or X-Wing as well as 28mm

So yeah, just a final update, Models and Minis picked up the Hornet, the only one that made it into production.

$80 and they're having a 30% off sale.

Just like the terrain kickstarter promo on main page, this looks like they've just chopped FW kits, added a few bits here ant there and called it day. Tornado looks like it's a Valkyrie/Thunderbolt kitbash.

Yeah, unsurprising that the only one in production is the by far the most blatant FW rip-off....

Casting quality control would probably be better, models and minis is pretty good for that, price is better. Forgeworld is cool but its grossly overpriced and we all know the horror stories. I myself have a beautifully casted macharius and what was a hunk of crap(cheap ebay buy that I spent about 6 hrs working on just to bring it up to scratch - Read how it should have left the fething factory) I'd not pay $100 for it let alone the whole $270.

If someone made a cheaper similar rip off I'd have considered it. Because I want a macharius. I don't want to pay too much for something that could be a piece of junk.
