There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. I'd recommend shooting the unit until he has two blobs on point A and B, then assault point A. The units in point B will be unable to move, consolidation or otherwise, as they will be unable to be in coherency after that movement. This means you can isolate sections of a unit and he can not fight back at full strength, if you play this correctly it will be to your advantage, as your full unit can injure models that can literally not attack back.
If he culls from point B, and you assaulted point A, you are basically getting free kills for no penalty. If he culls from point A, then point B might eventually be able to move, however, he may cull himself out of combat, which means you receive zero attacks back, since point B will not be able to activate anymore if you are sufficiently far away.
This description probably needs diagrams. But if he is isolating sections of his units, you are at an advantage when you assault that section.
