Carl Schmitt "Über das politische"
Philosophy about law and the nature of political /power in a society.
(No, as a swiss person i don't condone his views but in essence still interesting.)

Beyond that: Kant, Luhmann, Das Kapital, mein K(r)ampf, communist manifesto.

Mostly for my studies.

Beyond that, "the mirror of rapgar " fantasy and surprisingly funny.

Mein Kampf - Eine kritische Edition, 2 Bde.

this one, it is a commented version, ( a good commented version might i add) but Krampf is more correct. the book is written terribly (considering however that it was completly dictated and basically a lot of speeches in bookform meh, still he certainly wasn't a capable philosophical thinker.)

I find it interesting more out of the interest torwards the functionality of radical ideologies. How they work rethorically. Frankly you don't miss out on much if you don't read it, but the interest is there for me to understand how the ideology supposedly works.
As a student of philosophy and history with a preference for political philosophy /history of political philosophy it is only right that i'd read these books, else i would've chosen terrible for my studies.

Daitai 88kasho. (Yet) another Shikoku pilgrimage diary. Differs from others in that the author is self-admitedly less interested in the temples, Kukai and religion in general as many others and is approaching it more of good hike(though starts to suffer ethical issues about it later when he starts to wonder if he's doing it too relaxedly). Also one of the few diaries I have read of somebody doing it in parts. Generally books are written by those who do it all in one time. Also even more unusually he does what I did(not by design. Last summer huge rains caused trains to stop which prevented me from going where I had intended so had to go elsehwere) and do parts in non-order jumping ahead and coming back later.

Can he read japanese? If not not much help but there are good books on topic in english. Burning mountains and fighting monks has particularly funny way of telling authors mishaps along the way. Tales of summer henro is also good one showing rural area of japan before this pilgrimage became popular among non-japanese(now it's few hundred per year).

Reading Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn novels. Entertaining, but nothing groundbreaking.
Finished Erikson's Malazan books, now reading Esslemont's take on the world. Path to Ascendancy trilogy is subpar (seriously, stop saying "fellow" every other word or so), but Night of Knives was a ripping read though, so I'm giving him another chance.

Esslemont simply isn't as good as Erikson. Dancer's Lament is, in my opinion, the best of the Esslemont ones. Mind you, the whole Kharkanas Trilogy (well, the first two books) left me bored.

The Way of Kings by Brian Sanderson. Pretty good so far, though there is a lot of character hopping.

Currently reading another inspector Maigret novel. Plan is to read them all in the sequence I've them standing on the bookshelves (some 85 I think).

Next to that 'The Vanquished' which is a very, very good and interesing read on the 1918-1923 period after WWI.

Anybody here part of Goodreads?

Not to derail the thread, but is this for nonfiction books only? Should we discuss fiction and genre books in geek media?

Yeah I plan on talking about all the lowbrow garbage fiction I read unless I hear otherwise

I posted about an Age of Sigmar novel I was reading and no one seems to have complained. I'm not OP though, so take that as you will.

Not kidding: I was planning to start that exact thread.

Assuming, of course, it will not be redundant.

Moving on to fiction sword art online light novel volume 20. Long series and frankly after volume 6 it's not been as strong as before. Volumes 1, 2 and 5 and 6 I enjoyed rather lot. 7 and 8 were bunch of sub stories during events of first books. Then started this huuuuuuuuge long story(volumes 9 to 18 when book 1 was self contained and books 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 formed one story). While it had interesting ideas and puts out questions about morality when it comes with AI that's human level(minus hardwired rules that are rather hard to break though not impossible) it still is rather long.

19th was more of substories based on aftermatch of 18th(or rather between almost end of 18th and end of 18th) and 20th seems to be continuing the theme.

Feels too forced attempt to big epic fantasy/scifi story.
