The best 7th edition formations were the ones that buffed weaker units in fluffy ways. Like the Chaos Raptor formation that let them assault from deep strike, or the Helbrute formation that let you shield them with cultists.

It was the dumb ones that gave out free wargear and entire vehicles to already decently performing units that ruined the whole idea. Yes, the Skystrike formation or whatever it was definitely gave a good fluffy approximation of a Marine drop pod assault, but it did so at the cost of the game itself.

Hopefully they’ve learned to balance cool fluff and appropriate powers with making a game worth playing.

Glad to see Sororitas, getting a new Codex, are also being supported with the new formation rules, just like they were in 7th...

Neither are Tau or Necrons, some factions just are getting them later. SoB will probably be getting them in later Vigilus books.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard that in 7th Edition when formations dropped...

They're in vigilus, I'd be willing to bet that they'll be getting them. Chaos doesn't have any from what it looks like yet either, I seriously doubt they are going to go the entire campaign with no formations.

If they do, Feth GW, but I doubt it.
