There have also been rumors about Darkoath for some time now (I'm assuming Slaves to Darkness and possibly Everchosen will be rolled in with them). My guess is we'll see Slaanesh, Moonclan (both more or less confirmed), Darkoath, probably some Stormcast, and at least one expansion of an existing faction (this may be what Moonclan will be) and probably two consolidation battletomes (Free Peoples and Skaven?). That would be 6-7 new battletomes in addition to any campaign books they want to release.

With the Slaves to Darkness box set and the Dark Oath warband I imagine we will see a new battletome for either both of them or a battletome to combine them.

I Don't think we're going to be seeing a "normal human" AoS faction anytime soon. That just doesn't seem to be what Gw is going for atm, either 40k or AoS.

That said I do believe there are 2 aelven armies still coming at some point. Malerion's shadowkin (possibly simply consolidating old dark elfs) and Teclis' angelic/light aelves.

Do Darkoath barbarians not count as human?

Perhaps "generic human" would be more appropriate. Y'know - chivalric knights supported by peasants (Bretonnia) or regimented humans with halbeards, cannons and the like (Empire) - basically, no factions that GW can't slap their own unique label/spin on.

Darkoath might be generic barbarians, but Chaos gives them enough stuff to differentiate them from, say, the barbarians in Frostgrave.

I'm starting to wonder if GW's reluctancy to do a "normal human" faction has something to do with the spread of 3rd party producers like the Perries, Warlord Games, Gripping Beast etc.

Like, maybe GW is thinking that if they were to relaunch the Empire or Bretonia, people would buy the models from the other companies for 1/3 of the price to play them, so it's not worth the effort.

This may also be the reason why the new races tend to be so uniquely fantastical - you'll find plenty of cheap, alternative options for High Elves and Clan Dwarfs, but not so much for Deepkin and Overlords.

Esmer I doubt that's the reason at all since 3rd parties can just as easily make fantasy armies as they can traditional fantasy style humans. It's not as if GW's designs for their demonic or ork armies are in any way so superior and outlandish that they can't be copied and such.

Also don't forget many of those cheap alternatives grew up either to compliment warhammer fantasy or to replace it when GW kicked the legs out from under it. So those 3rd party companies can readily adapt to the new designs just like GW can.

So no I doubt that's the reason. I suspect its not reluctance, but more a case of simple priorities and internal design choices. Ergo they can only release so many forces in any span of time thus someone has to come later and some earlier. Also don't forget if GW were to bring back an army like Bretonians it's a big investment as they've basically got to rebuild the faction from the ground up. Thoguh with their sculpting and casting they could do some awesome models now! Really vibrant and flashy knights charging atop huge warhorses with banners and tassles flailing around them ;the long coats of mail and cloth flowing in the wind; the horse charging not just standing there at attention or trotting; head forward and mouth open etc...

They could and most certainly can make them as epic as the rest of AoS, if not more so because they'd likely have no legacy models so it would all be fresh AoS design.

The real question is both if they WANT to make it and if they feel there's a MARKET for it.

Hmmm I wonder what kind of stormcast will show up in 2019?

Will it be the deathcast? Nagash has been toying around with the idea after all. Or will they go full 40k and have a horus heresy and splinter the stormcast into chaos-stormcast?

My guess is the deathcast on that one.

Or like one popular alternate reality - they go full bore 2nd legion (one of the redacted legions) and start mixing in 40k?

Well the latest teaser showing the next white dwarf has the Mooncast lmao. Oh my.

Next month: The tome celestial: The Hammerhands.

More stormcast. Whether that is more models / rules or just fluff will remain to be seen but we could be kicking off 2019 with yet more stormcast rules. They are bound and determined.

Frankly, there's about an infinite mount of ways that fantasy humans can be made without looking like something from the War of the Roses, while still having well-known stereotypes of infantrymen, cavalry, wizards, etc. Common tropes, but no tights and ruffles.

Both human forces for Confrontation looked nothing like normal Games Workshop fantasy humans, but would fit perfectly into the Mortal Realms. Below are just from one of the factions:

Spearmen

Fusiliers (Handgunners)

Heavy Cavalry

Kind of my point tough. Plenty of competition in that market, not as much in the more high fantasy one.

If we take at face value when they say they design models first before doing rules I do wonder if it is more about where the designers wants to go with the designs for themselves instead of filling in gaps. So the reason they are not doing basic fantasy humans is because they are just not excited about it(yet).
