Better than that, in 4th edition, ordnance weapons had their own vehicle damage table for penetrating hits, with a 6 being a detonation that obliterates the vehicle and kills everyone inside, no saves. Including the land raider, it was like, 800points dead in one shot.

If the necron gets up on a subsequent turn he is added to his unit. This cycle can go on until the end of the game. Poxwalker add one model, necron resurrects one model.

The moment a weasly 29ppm Renegade warlord goes full Hannibal lecter on a DE archon which was fully kitted.

In 7th using a demolisher, scatter die adds +12 inches, kills priority target behind cover.

(basically i pulled an L shot off, which won me the game)

Vice versa, Baneblade get's blown off in the middle of my fearless zealot army of renegades. Whole army runs off the table, master of the horde kicks in, brings back the whole army sans baneblade.

Mutating an enemy HQ into Chaos spawn with the one psychik power was also always funny thing to behold.

Abbaddon charging a regular infantry squad (I believe that was even pre-overwatch) and absolutely miserably failing at killing the squad only to be beaten by guardsmen in two brutal und amazingly onesided melee phases.

Having a Baneblade main gun scatter onto my allies fully kitted out Harlequin squad in an Apo game also WAAAY back, resulting in killing, I believe, 7 or 8 or so. Well, I sort of got payback fo that, as the demolisher cannon (in the same phase!) scattered as well and killed half of my marine assault squad.

Having to hear a friend brag about his new chaos Predator all week long. In its first game, I fired every anti-tank weapon I had at it to no avail as I got first turn and really wanted to pop it. Last weapon I had was a plasma gun that was barely in range. Three 6s later the Predator was destroyed,making the subsequent loss (I only really destroyed that tank and nothing else) a moral victory for me.

I played a game against myself to test out the new Space Wolves codex not far back and was so impressed with how amazing Bjorn was this edition, then after praising him Kharn comes round and kills him in one turn of combat lol That's ma boy.

Back in 7th, I had my Chimera blown up by a plasma pistol shot through front armour.

Also back in 7th, Executioner blast scattered so badly the tank hit itself. It was shooting to the right at a chaos rhino. The plasma bolt bounced off and hit the [i]left]/i] side armour, scoring a glancing hit.

Still in 7th, HoR killteam. Ultramarine fires a long range shot from plasma gun at my guardsmen, explodes. It was the first shot rolled that game.

7th may have been a crappy edition, but lack of rerolls and stratagems made it more prone to catastrophic failures, extreme luck and hilarious moments in general. Nowdays, the exploding plasma would be just re-rolled for a CP.

When I played Death Guard last year a friend and I decided to do a brother's war style game. I brought Mortarion and he brought his Ultramarines and Guilliman. We let the main armies fight but had the two primarchs just charge forward to duke it out middle of the table.

Guilliman knocked Mortarion down to 1 wound. Mortarion killed Guilliman. Guilliman made his roll to stand back up. Next turn he killed Mortarion who exploded and killed Guilliman.

I think we got some odd looks for all the laughing and fun being had with that fight.

The Ordnance Penetrating Hits Table with the "Vehicle Annihilated" result back in 4th.

I started 40k playing Armoured Company, and Vanquisher Tanks were phenomenally good back then, having basically a meltagun that rolled on the Ordnance Penetrating Hits table (instead of just the regular penetrating hits).

On the "Vehicle Annihilated" result, it exploded with an automatic 6" radius and every single passenger inside was slain.

I used to troll a buddy of mine by running a trio of Vanquishers and seeing which one could vaporize his expensive Land Raider with friends inside first.

We managed a four-superheavy chain reaction of explosions during a 7e Apocalypse game once. Knight dies to a Fire Prism shot, falls over into a Baneblade, Baneblade explodes into a Wraithknight, Wraithknight falls over onto another Knight, and that last Knight falls over and kills a bunch of Guardsmen.

This is the explanation for why melee combat is still a thing in 40K. If rifles were engaging at 100"+ then chainswords wouldn't be needed.

A lesson on keeping distance between your superheavy tanks, for sure! I remember playing apoc with my superheavy tank company and teaching people the neat little tricks you have to do, since they played so differently than regular tanks.

The same is true now, actually. Steel Behemoth makes me play my superheavy tank company very differently than I play my Leman Russ company (which is incredibly rare, as I dislike the current incarnation of the Leman Russ).

I saw a friend snake-eyes two Shokk Attack Guns in a row, in the very first round of combat. Blew up all the Big Mek's bubblewrap, took out half his army. He wasn't even mad, lol.

You said it yourself Draigo knew his real name. Plus stats don't incorporate details like knowing a daemons name. Mark my words Guilliman will be better than Russ or the Lion in CC by the time they all come back, GW love their apple polisher smurfs.

A year ago, the BA codex just came out, so we were playing the first game with it. My friend brought 3 dreads, one of them being a furioso. He was bragging about how it was such a brilliant tactic to drop him via Stormraven in front of my vindicator. First and only time I've played it this edition. He declares a charge, 3 shots, 2 sixes, 2 wounds, 2 fails, a 6 and a 1. Rerrolling it I got a 2. Dead Furioso. Good game

Also, first 8th edition game. I got first turn. Playing my mighty LR as I had been doing for years in previous editions. Shot all lascannons at a Maulerfiend. 4 wounds, 4 fails, 18 dmg. My whole group of friends concluded SM and specially LRs were OP in 8th from that moment, until I convinced them using basic maths, many months later. Still play it, but never got that luck again

So I recently got into 30k with some of my buddies. My very first game was Ultramarines vs. Word Bearers. My buddy shot the ever loving crap out of my Praetor and his Terminator Bodyguard. He then proceeds to charge a Mhara Gal Dreadnought (essentially a demonically possessed Contemptor) into my Praetor after his terminator meatshields all died painfully. My Praetor rolls double 6's for his fear test, absolutely turns his blue armor brown, and then proceeds to drop to the floor, thus avoiding all of the Mhara Gal's attacks (passed all of his invuln saves). He then shakily gets to his feet and slaps the Mhara Gal with a melta bomb (basically requiring a 6 to hit the dang thing, and he got a 6), penetrates the armor, blows up the Dreadnought, and then survives the ensuing explosion.

Having 3 Chimeras full of Troops within movement range of a final-game winning objective and they all roll 1's to immobilize themselves on terrain on the way in.

The drivers were promptly all executed.

I had my Eldrad charged by 3 necron wraiths and one of their melee HQ guys (not sure which). They all failed all of their attacks and got Eldrad angry. Eldrad put 2 wounds on the HQ with his return attacks.
In my turn Eldrad was basically a psychic explosion, 3 mortal wounds on the wraiths from smite, 6 on the wraiths from executioner and 6 on the HQ from mind war (with help from a hemlock -2ld). He killed them all solo before any of my units had chance to counter charge.

7th Ed team game, SM + BA vs CSM + Chaos. 1k each.

I brought 1k of stuff to kill *that freaking hellturkey*. That's all I cared about that game. My only objective.

I fire everything. Not a single glance even.

My ally's Captain pulls out a Plasma Pistol, hits (on 6s), pens (on 6s), and explodes (on 6s).

Beautiful.

It's a running gag in my gaming group that any time I take an HQ with any kind of affiliation with the adeptus Mechanicus they end up separated from their unit and end up getting blammed off the the board. I have yet to have a game were my techpriest doesn't bite it to a rail gun or melta shot.
