I have no idea what the charges are about, I didn't read any of the stories. My *comment was a codicil to saying that I think prostitution between consenting adults should be legal as a rule, I wanted to make sure that didn't include victims of trafficking and so on.

R Kelly got charged today (again), and that feels like a way bigger story. Why do people care so much about this sports guy? This is an honest question, I don't get it.

He's the owner of the NE Patriots team... you know... the evil empire.
.
Or, simply he's hated because he owns a Dynasty Team

He’s owner of this generations dynasty franchise. He endeared himself to fans when he built his stadium with his own money rather than use taxpayer funding(a rarity in the big 3 sports). He then kept prices way down (compared to other owners/stadiums) so that you weren’t breaking the bank to eat/drink at his stadium, and generally had an impeccable reputation(leaving aside any on-field/ in sport tomfoolery of the Patriots). Thats what I’m told at least, maybe some Pats fan can illuminate a bit more on the above.

Its extra newsworthy (IMO) because it a suprise, mostly. Had it been Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, it probably still would’ve been a top story, but not a suprise because we all expect something of this sort to happen to him. But Kraft just seemed extra clean.

R. Kelly’s situation on the other hand, seems like a bi-annual occurrence with him. Community service or some gak and he’s back to touring.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. That makes sense.

Add in the human trafficking/sex slave thing and...not good.

As many have said, why would a billionaire (many times over) bother with a place like this (allegedly)?

Weird, for certain...

Yeah, it seems like the human trafficking angle is what's pushing this.

I don't think it is weird at all. You are a billionaire and maybe one of your buddies suggests this nice spot to go have a little fun. If that is a thing you engage in frequently with said buddy, then it makes sense to trust him.

One slip up is not weird, it is human nature to make mistakes.

"Weird" being the 'where', not the 'why'.

It gets weirder still when you read about how he was stopped by the police the day before he...went there again on the next day!
