Thanks for all the kind comments guys. Horus is currently sat in the golden demon cabinet in the open category. Got a green sticker for finalist so far.

I wasn't really sure what to do with the wings honestly. I ended up going with a simple drybrush to try to bring out the subtle texture on them, but it really doesn't show in the photos.

If an dakka painting challenge contestant could win golden demon, that would be epic. Somehow I love looking at minis when they are inside a glas cabinet. Looks so official.

Truly amazing work everyone.
For those who enter this little comp and other, more well known ones, like the Golden Demon: Have any of your entries from here won major awards elsewhere? I know those awards might not be as important as the respect and admiration of your peers here on Dakka, but I’m curious.
I know there are different factors in judging, but I’d love for an entry that came in 3rd here on out little podium to win big in a major competition. Not just because I love all you guys and want to see you go far, but for those who might not get a chance to enter in the bigger events. They can proudly look at their work, and know that it’s the same caliber as the big leagues.

Horus won finalist in open category, as well as all my other entries. Bit dissapointed I didn't get a commended card as mortarion and my AoS conversion both got red, green and blue stickers. The standard was staggering this year and I feel that the judges may have been a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of awesome entries.

Congratulations! Must have been a crazy high standard across the board, so picking up Finalist in all categories you went for is amazing!
What do the colour stickers mean? I've never actually been to a GD/Warhammerfest.

The standard was mind blowing.. I didn't even get to see all the entries as there were so many, and the cabinets were so busy all weekend. So green sticker means it's made finalist and wins a pin at least. Red means something has caught the eye or stood out to one of the judges enough for them to mark it as special, and blue means it's been photograohed by the team they have there. What I don't get is that while green means auto finalist, red doesn't automatically get you a commended entry card. These seem to be decided on a case by case during the judging of the finalist entries.

It's not, mainly because I am located in North America and we haven't had a Golden Demon on this side of the pond in years.
However, with Games Workshop bringing Golden Demon to Adepticon 2020, I may finally get another stab at winning a Slayer Sword!

I've dabbled in some events in the past, but the past few years I've been focusing on other things not-competitive painting. I've won a lot of the smaller local Conquest and GT painting contests as well back when GW supported other tournaments, but those models and photos have been lost to the sands of time.
GAMES DAY TORONTO 2006
Bronze, 40k Single Model
We actually had an invasion of French painters this year who just swept all the categories. This was actually my first competitive painting event so I was happy to podium, and the quality of entries really inspired me to push my painting ability.
GAMES DAY CHICAGO 2007
Gold, Fantasy Large Model
Bronze, Fantasy Regiment
CRYSTAL BRUSH 2012
Silver, Sci-fi Single Model
Silver, Fantasy Regiment
Bronze, Sci-fi Vehicle
Bronze, Fantasy Single Model
This was they second year they ran CB, back when they had categories and it wasn't just a popularity contest. I hadn't intended to enter anything, but my friends encouraged me to just bring some models I had anyways to enter for fun. I still get sassed all the time for just entering models from my armies.
Resin Beast 2019
Bronze
My most recent piece; Creature Caster announced their first Resin Beast painting contest for Adepticon 2019 a month before the event, so this was very much last minute (as most all the entries were, I imagine), but there was a lot of quality entries still. Managed to podium, and part of the prize was their Queen of Ecstacy model (which I will be entering for Resin Beast 2020!)

Congrats on your performance! I was looking through a lot of the winners and there seemed to be a lot of talent on display, so be proud for getting your work up there and getting to Finalist!

Congrats Queen Anne, DV8 and Lipsdapips and everyone that entered it was a really good month Terribly sorry everyone just realised I hadn't started the league for this year yet, been rather manic at work with some big deadlines looming. Will get on it this weekend.
Also really well done Queen Anne on the Goldern demon entries, Very well deserved finalist and a nice boast to have saying I've competed against a golden demon finalist in a painting challenge
Thats an impressive display of models DV8, congrats on so many good entries and being recognised across so many years, I saw in the news they had announced Golden demon was going back to America so good luck if you enter.
My only claim to fame on painting comps is being in the top 3 occasionally with a few winning entries over the years (normally due to the conversion rather than the painting I think)
My winning entries here which I'm proud of, still remember how nervous I was on my first ever entry to this challange and having people judge it.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me, and congrats to the winners, both in the thread and in various other painting competitions!
That's a fantastic collection of beautifully-painted models, DV8. Gratz on the finalist pin, QAR. I was considering entering GD this year just for fun, with no expectations of even getting a pin or anything, but in the end I didn't bother. Transport and a lack of anyone else to go with stood in my way, plus a realistic idea of my chances of anything apart from derision. I did go to a bring and buy at Cardiff's Firestorm Games instead and got about £150 worth of stuff for around £50, so the day wasn't a complete loss.

Apologies I got mixed up and thought you were uk for some reason. I'm hoping GD does return to other countries, might take the pressure off and make it a little easier here! Well my advice to you is do it! Your work is good! And I found that once I decided to enter, it made me consciously try to improve, and spend the time getting everything perfect, and since then all my entries have made finalist, and I've started getting higher results in these monthly comps, so you'd be surprised!
