Raw materials. I'm especially pumped (see what I did there) about the little flapper valves, which basically have built-in rivets.

To answer a question from the previous page; yes, beer is one of the major food groups.

Cool idea. And updated to sig. I'll try and pay more attention to this one. I've slept through the past couple.

deep breath

Right, here we go - for the last few years I always get a Cadbury's Creme Egg (diabetes in tinfoil, if you're not from the UK and not familiar) and every year I look at the plastic and think "that could be... something before it eventually goes in the recycling.

So this year, it's going to be something.

Thanks Cam, as much as anything I wanted to check that was a legit base to start from - looking forward to mixing it with some of the true talents on here!

Well I swear that I had a plan that was not going to end up into a silly oversized project...Then I learned that beer was food....

If you can fit it onto a cd for a base you could possibly get extra points for small scale!!!

That's good beer, that is. I am very behind with this. Well, sort of. Mine is tiny...

So going into the weekend, some great starts so far, tons of potential. Let's see some WIP shots guys and dolls.

I added a few WIP shots to my P&M Blog here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/180/686009.page#10452263

I'm still in the concept wrangling phase, but I'm far enough to start fiddling with foam sheets!

Mostly, on my phone.

So I'm going simple and ( fairly) small, building a launcher for ultimate dreadball:

MVP for scale. I'm using a smartie tube - although I'll need another one, for its lid, to get the \_/ detail symmetrical - and the footprint cannot be bigger than a gameboard hex. And, obviously, chaos bits, repurposed into a multi-ball launcher and cameras, as the central pillar also acts as the ref in Ultimate. Yes, that means I'm using kit bits for a LoeR contest, but I'm repurposing them, and in the end, I just like the idea.
My main concern is stability and weight. In retrospect, I should maybe have put a couple of coins or washers inside the tube to keep it steady. I may still attach it to a Dreadball base to give it a bit more heft, we'll see how steady it is once built.

We like simple, it looks effective.

Can you manage a small hole in the top to pour in some sand, that would work.

Cheers. Not that I/we don't love great big grand builds, but sometimes it's nice to work on something more... focused I guess?
Maybe not in the top, but along the upper rim, I could, as that's got to get covered over on one side with another lid's edge. Good shout

I've been challenging myself to not go for the really big builds lately, but part of that is just not having time for them.
I've finally gotten started on the Mind Flayer sculpt for my diorama, so I can finally show a very small WIP

Looking great Syro_ !

Started assembling my entry, with pillars, stairs, a door and some proper jointing for the connection to the keg above :

Hmmm...should I commit to making something this round? I've been so busy, but I feel I need a deadline to focus my hobby energy.

Neither of my two current terrain build ideas (Modular swamp board for Relicblade, and a spaceport facility demo/display board for Maelsrom's Edge) fit the theme at all though, and I hate to derail them to force this one (just off the top of my head, an Underhive food truck/vendor serving 'food' from a questionable/unconventional origin).

One last idea that might be a stretch...3 funnel-web terrain markers and 3 matching deathmark spiders...the food in this instance being the heroes that may wander too close to them in-game (also for Relicblade).

Any advice from the peanut gallery you fine fellows?

Do it, you know you want to.

And what would be wrong with a small street vendor for your ME display board?

But I do love the spider idea, nice twist on a theme.

Fantastic start KT and Syro. Great things are afoot.

@KernelTerror: Thanks, a very small start sadly. Your keg is already looking much less keg and more like some cool architecture.
@Fango: I hope you do join, it would be fun to have you in one of these again.

Nice early moves, everyone... loving the custom head and beer tower for sure.

I added a half-dozen new photos to my P&M blog here:

I'll just share one here... my prototype for attaching rivets strips onto the edges of the platform. The styrene came in the mail and I couldn't resist a quick mockup without glue. Rivets for the Rivet God!

Looking good so far. I hope that keg was emptied before starting the project.

Here's some WIP crossposted from my P&M blog

I don't normally post WIP photos, but I guess doing so is SOP for LoER competitions. Here's the fire pit all built:

I put down a layer of sand/gravel on the base, built a ring out of slightly larger gravel, filled that in with slightly smaller gravel, and then added some wood I cut from scrap balsa. I soaked the whole thing in watered-down PVA to keep it all together.

Then I painted it. It came out a lot better than I thought it would. Next, I have to chop up the giraffe and get it ready for the spit.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Brilliant updates MacPhail, Gracen and Josh !
And no Josh, it is full, how else would I use it as a counter for command points ? 6l inside, so with a pint for each CP, should be about right...

I, unfortunately, will be sitting this one out. I have to many things going right now.

That said, these are off to an excellent start. The fire looks really nice and toasty. Time for smores.

Thanks for all the kind words, every one. They really fan the flames of creativity.

I've had to slow down a lot in the last month or so. My wife (quite correctly) as pointed out that I have too much hobby stuff, and need to thin out the Closet of Shame. I don't really have time day to day for that sort of thing, so it will have to wait until summer break. Until then, I'm trying to keep a lower hobby profile in order to maintain domestic tranquility. That said:

I added the posts to the fire pit, chopped up the giraffe and added the spit. I can see the finish line from here-- about three more painting sessions should do it.
