go figure, I started blood ravens a few months back, GW seems to do this to me, I start a project and a few months later GW launches new rules for it. (half the time of which suck. I started Grey knights and a week later they announced the 6th edition codex )

This is pretty awesome. I hope they keep doing more fan-favorite Chapters. Hopefully they leave the big boys (Salamanders, Iron Hands, etc.) for actual books.

How much do you guys want to bet that their Chapter relics are actually knock-off relics from other chapters? BLOODY MAGPIES!

My milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard and they're like, hurr darry darr.

My hope is that we get several relics. as for the blood raven chapter tactics I'm hope blood ravens get something similer to the red cosairs one where they get additional CPs for taking tac marines or intercessors instead of scouts

What´s the reason this month´s WD release date is later than normal? Or has this been discussed somewhere else?

To me, that's the big question. Like a lot of people, I've toyed with doing Ravens since DOW1, but the lack of decals or shoulderpads put me off of it.

If you have access to a laser printer, some decal paper is pretty cheap, and there are lots of sheets out there, most notably on B&C. "Close enough" shoulders can be found on Shapeways, no doubt. I've done both for my old-school Mentor Legion, since the chances of the Owl making an appearance are slim to none.

WD release date has been moved to the middle of the month from now on, because reasons.

It's been mentioned elsewhere, but the June issue will go up for sale on the 21st of this month. Hopefully subscribers will get theirs some time this week.

That would be a nice Trait for them and actually give a reason to take Tactical Marines. It would also be a nice mirror for Red Corsairs since both "chapters" are relatively recent to 40K (as-in didn't exist until long after the Heresy era)
I also hope they have a good number of relics that are unique, but specifically from other Chapters.

I wonder if their Trait will be good enough to change the Meta for "vanilla" marines, but most likely it'll be 'meh' like the Crimson Fists.

I'll never understand the jealously on display when someone gets rules before someone else; it's particularly silly for players of the poster boys of 40k that get the majority of the game rules focus to complain about it. I could understand if the same small subfaction got revised rules multiple times within the same edition before another got anything but complaining that the Blood Ravens are getting anything before someone else gets more than the starter amount they already got is just petty. I say that as a fellow multiple chapters over 20 years of 40k fandom marine player (in addition to Tau, IG, and Eldar currently and formerly Chaos and Ork player).

There is also definatly a sense of entitlement from some of the player base. when a new product is announced from some segments the reaction is definatly a "how dare they give X something instead of Y" I mean I understand a little when you've been waiting on plastics of your core units for years and another factions on their third resculpt of their equivilant (eldar vs space marines) I can understand it. but it's petty. Also GW's a busniess they'll focus on what makes the most sense busniess wise. the blood ravens getting chapter tactics this early makes a lot of sense for a host of reasons.

1: They're one of the most popular chapters. My introduction to 40k was Dawn of War. and I doubt very much I'm alone here.
2: As a chapter whose primarch isn't known it's a lot harder to say "well just use X for their chapter tactics."
3: since the last time lore was written for them in the setting a LOT has changed for the blood ravens.

I'm actually kinda sad about "losing" this.
Part of the appeal for taking BRs on the table (for me) WAS that their Primarch is unknown, so you COULD take whatever Tactic you wanted.

For example, some people have issues with using, say RG Chapter Tactics for an army the is painted like UMs or White Scar because those paint schemes already suggest an existing trait that isn't RG.
No such "gripe" can be levied are Blood Ravens, however, because they didn't have a "preset" trait.

Now the BRs are going to have a "preset" trait, so that "freedom" will be lost. YMMV, of course

Yay very happy to see these guys getting some special treatment. I am one of the people who got into 40k through the Dawn of War games. I remember to this day being a young kid and buying dawn of war 1 off of the shelf because it looked cool.

I'm interested to see what their rules will be. Going off of the fighting style they are known for having well laid out plans and psykers. I don't see them getting anything special rule wise for psykers (chapter tactic wise). I could see a very LAZY option being to port over the red corsair tactic. It does fit to some level and while it's not a bad tactic getting a copy/paste job would be very disappointing.

Gonna take a wild shot in the dark for a flavorful (albeit not very competitive option) being all units counts as obsec and obsec units count as double for the purposes of holding objectives. Gain 3 command points if you army includes at least three librarians.

As for a stratagem getting 1 relic for any space marine faction would be humerus and a nice play on their stealing meme.

yeah I know, I started blood ravens in part because of that myself (I went with blood ravens over making up my own custom chapter because I wanted to pay homage to what got my into 40k. and because I was having trouble coming up with a colour scheme I liked)

If you dont want to run the new blood raven trait, just tell your opponent that you stole...err were gifted... whichever trait and relics you want to actually use.

Oh, there's no doubt you can do this. It was just...easier to do when BRs didn't have there own trait.
While paint scheme has no bearing on rules, I do think there should be SOME consideration made for the ease of your opponent. It's borderline WYSIWYG, which you should strive for, even though it's no longer a rule, but should absolutely be a courtesy.

BRs are an iconic Chapter at this point, so making an army of them is fun, but also had the benefit of not being "associated" with any particular rules. So you got the best of both worlds: an easily recognizable Chapter that's fun to paint (who doesn't like red marines?), doesn't require a made-up backstory (like make-your-own Successors) and has the freedom to take the rules you want to take.
Heck, BRs could easily be either a vanilla Codex Chapter or either Angels successor. Maybe not Wolves though.

But alas, that duality is less appealing now they they will undoubtedly get their own Chapter Tactic, WL Traits, Relics and Strats.
But I'm still gonna paint some

Subscription copies don’t have the same back cover as standard copies. Instead they have the cover art wrap round the back.

There hasn’t been in any of them since they changed to subscribers getting a different cover. It’s much easier to change the cover for subscribers than change the contents around, I imagine, as it’s just glued onto the magazine.

Mixed feelings about this for this exact reason. Obviously I want to see more stuff for them, but in the back of my head I am thinking that I've painted however many points of Blood Ravens, I've made custom decals and sculpted and 3d printed iconography, and now they will all have a chapter icon that is probably going to be canonically wrong.

Spoiler:

Pretty petty reason to be dismayed, I know. Turned out that decal sheet I got off BOLS in 2009 had some lasting consequences.

This one is not 'wrong' per se, it's their very old, a bit simplistic symbol from ancient GW Index Astartes picture:

It's 'wrong' in the sense games used different, much more detailed one, a bit similar to the one Witchfinder linked, but you can argue it's more 'canon' than game one, ironically...
