it isn’t the wonder whether there was a market. They know how big a market there is for 40k by sales.

It is logistical. They would put it in every country If they could! (Almost every..).

I think it will come in time, but I guess it is down to Hachette not GW anyway..
Some of their part works have made it to the US I believe

Don't forget the main focus of this product isn't to give gamers cheap models but to get those on the fence and non-gamers gaming with GW products. The last thing GW wants to do is release something like this in the USA and then hit massive supply problems when the market eats it all up - esp if the market that ate it up was already GW customers.

Part of this product line is getting new gamers and thus increasing GW's sales.

As an aside, if you're really interested in the first issues, sign up now.

If it turns out to be a trial launch, Hachette will let you know and you'll be charged nothing. If it is like Conquest, they will also say thanks for applying and offer you the first three issues for free should you subsequently join up at the full launch.

For sure.
Well worth it, even if cancelling the day it is posted (£8 for all four issues), won’t get charged for the next.

The real question is whether it will actually cost me less for the starter set equivalents than just...well, buying the starter. We saw from Conquest the bulk was the starter set pieced out. I can grab a copy of Soul Wars for £71.25 from Dark Sphere right now. Assuming that the three Nighthaunt characters take an issue each, as does the Grimghast reapers, another unit of rasps, two Stormcast character, the ballista, and thesequitors and castigators additions; that's what, ten more issues? At £8 each? Once you add in the cost of the first four issues, we're just tripping a hundred quid for models that I could spend seventy for and buy right now. More if the bigger Stormcast character or ballista get spread over two issues.

I'm happy to be proven wrong on this, but unless they put a lot more in per issue than they did with Conquest, there's not much point in subscribing. Just grab the odd issue instead from forbidden planet.

Seems those in and Middlesborough may wish to go hunting, as we have confirmed ‘on shelf’ sightings.

Likely a soft launch and highly regional specific though.

I'm both annoyed and relieved that this is only UK. Relieved because I probably don't need it and would be sorely tempted.

5ey likely won’t split sprues, so that’s 8 Soul Wars sprues, making up 8 issues of the 80 planned, for £64. Same as Conquest and Dark Imperium. Certainly not the bulk of the collection.

Would be interested on speculation on what we might see though.

For £3 the first issue is an absolute steal. Will try to pick up at least half a dozen copies if I manage to find anywhere selling it. Could do a whole ghost army for £30!

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Hopefully the full content Poster, a la Conquest, shows up soon so we can make a call on overall value.

That’s likely to be a few months off, if as signs suggest this is a regional test release.

True, wonder if they will release details of a dreaded "premium" subscription then?

Given the relative armies what is their equivalent to a Repulsive or Plagueburst crawler £40/50 odd model?

I haven't ventured into AoS at all yet, but if this is as well thought out as Conquest, I'd be highly tempted.

Apart from the odd bit of duplication of models early on, I've been really charmed at how well planned out the progression in rules, accessories and even paints have been for Conquest. It's cleverly paced so as to give you something you can actually paint and play with almost immediately, and it builds steadily on that. Your first flier comes with an explanation of flying rules and a means to test them out, for example, and the array of scenarios let you play actual games while giving you a feel for each new thing and how it interacts with all the previous things.

Every four issue cluster - each delivery - seems to be sorted so as to have one bit of terrain/scatter, some models, and some new paints with a new accompanying painting tip or technique. The cheapy cardboard battle mats aren't exactly glamourous, but every so often an issue introduces a new "piece" you can add or lay onto them in a way that changes the landscape, like a bridge or building.

A lot of the painting guides and some of the accessories are probably redundant to folks here, absolutely, but I will say I genuinely think that for somebody coming into the game or still finding their feet, the magazines do have more value than just the model discount. I would not say that for most partworks, I think Conquest is genuinely well executed for what it is and I'll strongly consider this on the back of it.

Celestant Prime..
Maybe the coach? Or a Morghast.

Definitely trial.
It’s in newsagents in Yorkshire right now, just like before.
Tyne Tees region people have picked it up.

Poster will be on proper release, as will word of Premium.
As with last year

very tempting, had this been a follow on from Conquest it would have been pretty much automatic, but running both together is pushing my luck with the domestic authorities a bit

especially when half of Conquest so far is unbuilt

interested though

I did say before I would for AoS and it looks like I will be investing. I think there is some value in the subscription gifts too as I don't have any of the citadel gear, it would be nice to compare their stuff to my own tried and tested.

If this runs to the same timetable as conquest the trial launched around the end of Feb 2018 and the real deal hit at the beginning of September so 6 months later

so this one is probably going to go live for real at the beginning of March

Edit: and we're on issue 52 of 80 (?) for Conquest, so getting to the beginning of March is 26 issues so my guess is this will launch on Wed 18th March the week after conquest ends by my calculations. That will mean potential customers aren't having to double up on subscriptions, not that's going to be a problem for everybody, but I'm sure they realise that a decent number of those who picked up Conquest will also be interested in Mortal Realms. It also means they don't 'loose' potential customers who will give up on things if there isn't a magazine to remind them this stuff is fun

Damn. I realised we're near the end of Conquest. Doubling up on the cost wasn't practical, but switching my money over to this because Conquest is done seems far more likely. I'll have to wait for a big pic of the whole lot before I decide if there's enough I want overall to justify it.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Picked up an issue in WHSmith this morning before work, they had tonnes in (teesside park) not opened or anything yet, not sure I'll go for it tbh, enjoy conquest but I don't really have spare time or money for a game I don't play (baring silver tower/shadows over hammerhal)

Approx armies
9000pts AdMech (Main army)
7000pts Black Templars (original army)
3500pts Death Guard (lazy side project)
2000pts Imperial Knights (extension of AdMech)
2000pts Harlequins (fun side project)

For those wanting the Spoopybois, but not fussed for the Stormcast?

Could always Death them up a bit and use them a Ossiarch?

Oooooo middle earth one. That could be fun. Though I think they would struggle to have one that I could find models I don't have Also they don't have any in Finland anyway. And one UK store has ridiculous shipping. 17£ for 2? Oh dear.

I Know it was never going to happaned, but did they have to use stormcast and nighthaunt? Couldn't have used i dunno... Beastmen and skaven or something?

They've done a LoTR partworks before. Back just after the movies and model range were released. I would certainly appreciate another one though!

LotR partwork is likely to require all sorts of discussions with the rights holder, not saying it won't happen again, but less likely for now.

thinking more on this, as others have commented if this is the trial and less likely to fully kick off just yet it becomes a lot harder to say no to. If it follows Conquest (no reason it wouldn't) expecting to see (for both sides):

- starter set models
- every blister pack character
- every 'easy to build' set
- couple of other models, likely the 'older' ones (not that these ranges are that old)

plus a scattering of terrain kits

paint range may have a decent bit of overlap with Conquest but that I can live with.

plus get a model holder to sit along side the other (unused) one etc.

actually pretty tempted, heck and I have only ever actually played one game of AoS

it reads pretty standard, but expanded, there is new stuff here too, though the quality of the writing is a bit variable as you would expect. decent artwork to go with it though, mostly old, some new.

as actually surprised, I expected the magazines to be fodder for recycling, but actually they are pretty decent.

the scenario stuff is good too. as are the paint guides, though presumably once you have built stuff they and the instructions can be binned if desired.

but the fluff bits, ok you won't read and re-read them, but they are decent enough and don't all feel like copy & pasta stuff

The magazines aren't huge and I don't think it'll be revelatory stuff for anybody with a core book and a working knowledge of the Ultramarines/Death Guard in particular early on, but it's actually more than I expected and it's often used to contextualise whatever new model you just got or a chapter that makes particular use of it.

It brings a nice bit of character to the models, enough that I do sit down and read my four new mags before breaking out the clippers.
