Got started on the next project, my second chaos crucible.

My first one looks like this:

I was going for a neutral chaos look, so I thought the daemonettte hide would balance out the Khorney corpse boil.

Just a little drybrushing to start, and the interior of the cauldron.

(Puppetswar corpses, I believe. Been a while since I glued them in there...)

Here's the close up for ya. (I figured someone would want to see them )

Can't wait to get the side-by-side!

Thanks,

MegaDave

Whoa! That thing is stunning. The two together should be amazing.

Nice work! I really enjoyed following your Iron Warriors thread. It's exciting to see some contemporary models given the same love and attention. How do you get that nice, pastel orange?

Thanks! Two cauldrons of blood are better than one!

Thank you! It's always a battle to make things look nice but not take weeks to finish. The orange is just Jokaero Orange, Nuln Oil and then another few thin layers of Jokaero Orange. For any edge highlights I then use Fire Dragon Bright.

I worked on some of the gold while my wife watched one of those movies where they pretend to get married for X reason and then fall in love for real after the awkward family apology.

This is what I accomplished in that time. I forgot how much of a pain these crucibles are to detail!!!

Thanks,

MegaDave

Good use of a soppy movie! Those corpses and bubbles look cool, need some more blood, thought I expect thats not far off!

I wish is wasn't that far off, but progress is sloooooooooooow.

Last night was a Jane Austen movie. Couldn't tell you which one, but my wife said the main character was poor. I think there was a lot of crying.

I managed to use that time to finish the front and start on one of the sides. Boring photo, I know. Eventually it will look as cool as the other one...

...eventually.

Thanks,

Those bold colours look great, and the cauldron is awesome.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Just looked thru your blog and have to say how much I love your chaos army. The gruesome twosome are fantastic looking HQs, I really like how they tower over the cultists. Will be checking back to see how the cauldrons turn out.

Hah, yeah I'm just salty about how much of a slog it is. I actually don't enjoy the painting process much, just the finished product so the middle is always hard for me. Glad you like it so far though!

Fifty wrote:Those bold colours look great, and the cauldron is awesome.

Thank you, it took me forever to figure how to paint it. There aren't many examples online other than the gold and black scheme.

amazingturtles wrote:Yeah, that is a wonderfully gross cauldron o' corpses.

Thanks! My wife just shook her head and sighed every time I asked visitors if they wanted to see my corpses in the basement.

Thank you! I managed to finish the gold on the tower, and got it shaded as well.

All I have left to do is the screaming skull drybrush and then I can start on the fun part!

Got the bottom of the tower finished tonight!

I was pretty stoked I also got the warpstone painted.

In my spare time waiting for paint and dry brushes to dry, I got my sorcerer put together.

I wasn't particularly fond of the rune or the head, so they got swapped. Still need to glue the head and greenstuff the join, but I like him.

Thanks,

Tight sorcerer update - I actually forgot that model was released, I suppose because his face was so forgettable I appreciate the nods to the metal sorcerers in it (backpack, weirdest of the force weapons, etc.)

Right? That's always been my favorite chaos head.

Hah yeah, I only bought him because I needed a 40mm base. But figured I'd paint him up. If only they'd kept the original helmets as inspiration!

Got some more work done, first layer of gold is starting to get on there. Got the sorcerer greenstuffed as well, so he'll be ready to paint as soon as I finish the crucible.

I'm going to need a new pot of liberator gold when I'm finished!

Thanks,

Got the second layer of gold done, and the blue power thingies.

Just needs the skulls and cannons finished, and we'll be done! (Well, we also need the bloody blood )

Finally, the painting is almost over! Resin is poured! Just has to cure for 3 days and I can cover it with blood for the blood god and call it finished.

The Crucible is complete!

Full of boiling bloody corpses to fuel it's macabre weapons...

Twinsies!

Pretty happy with how they turned out, can't wait to battle over them in a game.

Nice bloody bowls, the resin and Blood for the Blood God works really well. It’s grey how you can see random limbs beneath the surface!

Sufficiently wet and goopy. Looks great. Have you worked with resin before? Is it the same material as in those bottles of water effects?

Thank you, I was worried it was a little too much but seems like it worked out.

gobert wrote:Nice bloody bowls, the resin and Blood for the Blood God works really well. It’s grey how you can see random limbs beneath the surface!

Yeah, that's one of my favorite parts as well. Wasn't any good to have all those stray limbs if you can't see 'em!

Don Qui Hotep wrote:Sufficiently wet and goopy. Looks great. Have you worked with resin before? Is it the same material as in those bottles of water effects?

I have used resin a little bit before. For this I used a two-parter called Envirotex Lite. After it cured for a few days I blobbed the blood gone on and called it done.

Got a little more paint on the sorcerer and got started on the noctilith crown.

I actually don't think the noctilith will take that long, pretty excited about that thought!

Man, you are a scenery machine lately! Is that inner ring going to glow like the spires on the Crucibles? I certainly hope so. Chappa'ai!

Thanks! It's been enjoyable so far.

Speaking of, how is the glowing effect looking? I've only done one side so far.

I think the runes are pretty good for a drybrush. Does it need anything else?

Leave it as is? I'm happy with it atm but always open for suggestions.

Looks amazing! Maybe add a little white to the innermost yellow portions to make it pop even more?
