There is only one suitable soundtrack for Warhammer 40k.
Forget every other soundtracks. Forget Bolt Thrower, forget Chaos Gate, forget every video game soundtrack, or even the soundtrack from official GW trailers.
This is the utlimate 40k soundtrack, and if you disagree, you are not only wrong but also making a mistake and not right!!

By all that's unholy! How could you do that? Not even the Dark Eldar are that depraved!

The return of the mighty Drummer! Yes that's an old Pink Horror musician model.

Also how can we go 2 pages and no one has mentioned the awesome music from Warhammer Total War?

Ehh, the Total War stuff is a bit hit & miss for my tastes. There are a few great atmospheric tracks in there, but there's also a lot of fairly generic "trailer music" full-orchestral bombast. Which is fine for a strategy game for background noise in a battle, but I don't think it really gets at the soul of the setting. To be fair, outside of the Vermintide OST I don't know of any WHF music that does really. For my money you want a good mix of haunting and frenetic, lots of low-to-mid tuned strings and a few "odd" instruments like the hurdy-gurdy and harpsichord. Of course that would change for the various races, I'd like to hear Dwarf stuff that focuses a lot on deep brass and heavy, measured percussion, and I'd be interested to see what composers would come up with for Dark Elves.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I usually listen to Therion or Fish when painting my minis.

When playing, I prefer the sound of dice hitting the table and the lamentations of my opponents.

Although given how I roll, those lamentations sound a lot like laughter.

Basically it’s an ident for the brand, and also includes a snippet that they’re also working on a 40k anthology show...but apparently, that’s not been announced yet.

It's pretty incredible that they even need this.

GW have come a long way since I joined the hobby 20 odd years ago.

It sounds like they're working on some very exciting things that should bring more people into the hobby and setting. Great news.

I think it’s them more exploring outside their current niche.

Sure, as with LotR some solid media will bring new blood into the main hobby. But it’s also a separate source of revenue in its own right.

Very interested to find out more, myself.

Sounded pretty good.

Space Marine (the 3rd person game by Relic), had the best soundtrack for something 40K I've ever heard. Final Lib and Chaos Gate are close behind them.

I tend to agree. thing is warhammer is a reasonably valuable IP, one they can proably capitalize on a bit.

I...don't think they quite managed to come up with something as iconic as the MGM or 20th century themes. If anything it sounds and looks like generic 2010's RPG trailer.

There’s a great deal of potential value there, to be sure,

But, it’s all in the execution. A crap movie or laughable TV series can actively damage an IP, reducing its value. Whereas solid fare will increase its value. Look at the ‘go to ‘ example of the MCU. The stuff they held onto rights wise as the lower value stuff. The stuff they sold to stay afloat (X-Men, F4, Spidey) were their A listers. And now look at them.

They might have hung around for long, but they also have a strong identity. This is just a...a marketing tool that's also music.

That’s.......exactly what an ident is though?

That’s literally its job and purpose?

One benefit is GW can mess up totally with all these outreach programs and such. They can utterly fail and it wont' actually hurt their core business of selling models. That Ultramarines film they made a few years back is a prime example.

Of course lots of failed projects will eat away at who will want to sign them and at the value of their IP in other markets, but provided their core model business remains profitable the other stuff is just that - other stuff.

No, it's job is to make me identify the theme with a company or brand. This doesn't do so, because it's indistinguishable from other video game/trailer music. There's nothing in that collection of play-it-safe sounds that can be easily distinguished on it's own, without the literal space marine and whatever that golden abomination was on the screen. It fails as an ident because it doesn't have an identity.

There's something subtly wrong about that animation.

The marine is okay, like every other marine CGI we've seen. Real hard to feth a marine up apparently. The stormcast is radiating low budget though.
