At this point in time , it comes down more to the people to avoid a situation like Italy were they ignored all recomendations, than the goverment.

At least in Spain, I have seen a TON of people that isn't taking this seriously (Or they are taking it TOO seriously generating other kind of problems). Students that take the closing of universities as vacations to go to parties, etc...

I don't believe this will be dealt until June, as Jidmah has said, it took 3 months for China, an authoritarian regime with a society used to put the "greater good" before their own needs, to just control it. Spanish's chinese population is flying back to China because they felt more secure there, because they said in Spain we aren't taking this seriously enough. And they are right.

This is correct. People need to start accepting that these cancellations are happening for good reasons and not without consultation with health authorities. Adepticon did the right thing here, and I'm sure GW will too.

I am pretty bummed about this. I am unable to make it to Gencon this year so was extra looking forward to Adepticon. With all the people from Europe banned I might have had a chance in the painting competitions! At least I don't have anything to cancel except the event badge.

This is a big bummer, especially for those who are going, but I understand and support the decision. You don't want these kind of large events going on in a pandemic.

Glad we are still getting previews and I'm sure Adepticon will be back and better than ever next year (when hopefully I can attend).

I'm hoping they will reschedule the event later on, although if it gets to the end of the year, there will likely be no point.

And tickets paid are going to be refunded, so I doubt anything will be getting sent out to anyone.

They could offer option for attendees to pay part of the sum for the bag. Maybe not that feasible due to shipping costs but it's an option.

Gencon is extremely likely to be cancelled as well. The projections keep getting pushed back, and we're already hearing suggestion that all of next summer might have to be spent in quarantine / martial law conditions for much of Europe.

I think we can safely assume that pretty much all public events set for the recent future are going to be cancelled or postponed.

I'm trying to be positive about it though, and come up with new activities for the family. We're planning on spending our weekends walking in the countryside, after all, how much more socially distant can you get?

Just a reminder to the rest of the world, they are at two different times (second being BST as in the post).

So 10am Eastern, but the weekend after will be 9am East.

They're unlikely to reschedule, as that would be a logistical nightmare, and they're already talking about 2021 instead.

Yeah its not just all the small companies that need to adjust for a new date, but all the visitors as well. Plus big conventions in niche hobbies tend to end up settling (over time) into time slots that don't always compete with each other.

If they reschedual they might end up butting heads with another event, at which point they are either fighting a losing battle (everyone is going to the other event) or they end up splitting the community and neither event does well.

Devoting resources to remaining viable and looking forward to next year is likely a better course of action.
