Thanks, NinthMuseteer. I'm checking between the command abilities and it seems that the Koatl's Claw command trait (Dominant Predator, page 66) is not as good as one of the generic saurus traits (Mighty Warleader, page 57).

Mighty Warleader: If the general is a part of your army and on the battlefield at the start of your hero phase, roll a dice. On a 4+, you receive 1 extra command point.

Dominant Predator: Roll a dice each time this general is used to issue a command to a friendly Koatl's Claw Saurus unit. On a 4+, you receive 1 extra command point.

It says I must take Dominant Predator if I have a Saurus General - so is the solution to take a Slann General instead, and give it Great Rememberer?

Sounds good; here's my list. I'm not sure what the best spell options are there yet, but I really like the Slann's ability to teleport units. Trying to decide which spellcaster would work best garrisoned in the realmshaper - I'm thinking the Slann, given that I don't have any temple guard, or perhaps the Starseer with Hand of Glory.

Honestly, have fun with it. Try different things out and see what you enjoy. Spell choice on slann can be changed every turn anyways so don't worry about it.

As I expected, the FAQ for the latest rulebook removed the loophole that theoretically allowed Fangs of Sotek Skink units to shoot for free in the enemy's charge phase even if the enemy has not charged them. I mean, I wouldn't have used this loophole, even in the most competitive context, but it was quite a glaring oversight.

This part of the FAQ, about the Balewind Vortex, made me chuckle:
"Only Seraphon Wizards with a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less and that are not already on a Balewind Vortex can attempt to cast this spell."

I'm now imagining a player stacking three Balewind Vortexes on top of one another, with a Slann precariously balanced at the very top with a 1+ save. The possibility had never even occurred to me.

That would be hysterical. I would definitely demand a player using such a tactic actually place the vortexes too.

That is pretty funny. Probably fair enough that you cannot put the Oracle on Troglodon on the Balewind Vortex, but hasn't it always been the case that you can only have one of any endless spell at a time?

Correct. Cant have more than one model that shares an ES or BES warscroll on the table at a time.

So I've been reading through the battletome and am trying to choose between an Oldblood and a Sunblood. Both are 110 points so it would be easy to swap one for the other through a series of test games, but given that I won't be playing for a while I'm just kind of having fun with hypotheticals.

I'm really into Koatl's Claw, which adds 1 to hit when charging (and for a command point, counts as having charged). I have a unit of Saurus Knights with spears that are supported with a Scar-Veteran on Cold One, for the attack generation. Oldbloods command give +1 to hit with an 18" range whereas Sunbloods give +1 to wound with a 12" range. My crude mathhammer puts the Sunblood at slightly higher damage output (7.63 wounds (15.28 damage) on a charge, compared to the Oldblood's 7.33 wounds (14.67 damage) on a charge). But I'm leaning towards the Oldblood mostly because the 18" range seems like it might make or break that combo.

Thoughts and feelings?

Well, what is the goal here? Are you going for maximum effect out of the knights? Best theme? Just fun?

Either way, note that the two command abilities are very different. The oldblood buffs one of your units, the sunblood puts a debuff on one of the opponent's units.

Eep, you're absolutely right - I missed that important first sentence. I think Oldblood makes more sense at the moment!

EDIT: Also yes, the hope is to get the knights to put out a lot of damage.

Ok, in that case a key component will be a skink starpriest. His buff will allow to unit to deal MWs on 6s to wound, important for the knights both because they have no rend and because they will have a very high number of hits (and thus wound rolls). He is also an excellent support caster and can help generate extra CP you will need for spamming those command abilities.

You will probably want to go all-in with a firelance temple-host; you already have half of it, it provides an extra cp you need, it gives a solid buff to the units you want to buff, and helps out with deployment advantage. Plus an artifact (I would probably go for something defensive on the Scar-Vet).
