raspoteus, you mentioned a healthy online community - is this all on Facebook? Seems like a bit of a bummer that most communities have had to migrate there, as it's difficult to save content for reference later...

Not dead, dreaming. And after the past weekend, scheduled for awakening this winter

I hope it isn't dead. :-p The Gencon announcements got my wife and I to drop $350 on it. We love the Clone Wars era, and getting in early means not having to deal with all of the usual stock and resupply issues.

Definitely going to get me some Republic ships and fighters. Several people in my gaming group have started getting into Armada. Now I just need to see about getting some games in that are not at 11pm on a Thursday night.

Now that the clone wars is confirmed and we've seen the starter I'm going to go in on this. I had a chance to demo it the the other day and the game seems fun. There is a lot of the typical min/max crap that you tend to see in games these days, but if you can find a group of friends, the barrier to entry is substantially lower than any other miniature game.

I won't lie... it still felt like a pricey investment up front, but there's nothing else quite like this that's widely available and can be played at many game stores. I could scrape together a few of my old grog friends and battle BFG, but this is just calling much more strongly.

That said, the new starters not being proper two-player ones feels odd by Fantasy Flight standards. The wife and I bought two each of the two starters knowing one won't be enough for a standard game, and then two packs each of the fighters.

Someone suggesting I buy some Outer Rim box now in anticipation of it being gone soon... does anyone know why that box supposedly adds so much longevity to the system? I really don't know what it is.

I just treated myself to a "Gencon at Home" splurge by stopping on the way home from work and picking up Home One and the Imperial Carrier. I keep meaning to teach my wife to play, as I am trying to limit my time with my father because while he has played a few games with me, he's also 66 during this wonderful Pandemic and I am a delivery driver.

I figured both those ships were in need of a quick grab, as you can't find a large chunk of the Armada ships online. I am still trying to get ahold of the Chimera, Perfundity, and maybe a pack of Hammerheads. Although I may just settle for the Onager for my second Large-based Imp ship, and just print off the cards for the Imperial Star Destroyer refits that come with the Chimera from images online, to use with the single vanilla ISD I already have. At least the Onager has a cool main gun that adds something different to games than just "another SD, but differently painted".
