You sir need to come to the USA.
As a side note, I always thought the old 40k art work where muzzle flash was a compressed disk made no sense until I really rapid fired a 5.56mm pistol with a @9in barrel. The flash looked just like the artwork.

What sort of enemy variety is possible here? I can't see Death Guard Space Marines being included, really.

It very well could be Poxwalkers as the equivalent to SkavenSlaves/Clanrats that you massacre en masse with some more 'intelligent' Nurgle Worshippers crossing into Necromunda(Underhives)-style equipment and units.
It is worth noting that Vermintide 2 had Chaos Warriors and it woudn't be unexpected to have a Death Guard Marine as a boss-level enemy.

I was personally hoping for Genestealer Cults, but maybe in the expansion. Space Hulk Deathwing was meh.

I'd imagine we'll see Poxwalkers filling the 'weak, melee centric enemies that rush you' role, Cultists filling the 'weak, ranged centric enemies that ambush you', Plague Ogryn of some kind(there's one in the alpha screenshots from Steam!), and it looks like there might be some crossover with the Gellerpox Infected and Daemons. I definitely could see a single Death Guard Marine or Sorcerer being some kind of boss fight or the like.

That's the screenshot I'm referring to by the by.

Beyond Poxwalkers? Well... Cultists, mutants, spawns, renegades, Apostate preachers, Plague Ogryns, psykers, the Gellerpox Infected range, maybe Plaguebearers.... Should be enough to beat the Skaven in diversity.

I really do feel like Nurgle was a disappointing choice. Part of what made Vermintide feel fresh was that the enemies weren't all just some equivalent of zombies/mutants/undead, like a lot of games in this genre seem to go for. Sure, there was Nurgle stuff there too, but they weren't the focus.

Going for Genestealer cult in the game instead of Nurgle would have allowed the same style of gameplay but with a more unique theming for enemies than what to many people will just seem like typical zombies-style enemies. Just look at that screenshot above for example, it isn't something that stands out really.

They might be going Nurgle because the 'enemies' in Dark Imperium and the other 8th edition starter stuff(Know No Fear, the Easy to Builds, and First Strike) all used Nurgle.

Well, as I'm usually playing action RPG's, fighting giant rats isn't exactly 'fresh'.

Game looks good. It's got the excellent atmospheric feel Deathwing had and if it combines that with the game play of Vermintide, then I guess that won't be a bad thing. And i'll never pass up the chance to play as a guardsman.

I don’t believe these are Poxwalkers, since the Walking Pox is a very specific type form of Nurgle’s Rot with a few characteristics.

- The disease spreads through sound
- Those infected have a very unnatural smile upon death.
- Infected are very bloated.
- They are slow.

I would love to have a zombie horde game that went with the massive, slow horde style. They mostly seem to go with faster zombies.

Did Vermintide allow character customization? That could be a nice feature to have.

I'm guessing they won't have a random Skitarii as a playable character, so hopefully they'll at least have a Scion as a playable class. Give me that cool gear and a flamer and I'll be happy.

Vermintide 2 has cosmetics and weapons you can unlock via the completion of missions and through levelling up, which gives you item chests and the like.

I really need to play both the vermintide.
I started the first but solo, and it was ok. But I assume it’s much better playing with others.

It's best to skip the first one and just play the second one, which as an added bonus has most, if not all of the original maps of the first game, but backed by better gameplay and loot drops.

It is also best played with others, but the AI is decent enough for solo play.

If you have only played VT2, and not VT1, you would be less impressed. Fatshark did very little to jump between the two titles, and what was made different was done on the cheap. There's a reason very good reason that their largest expansion for VT2 has absolutely abysmal ratings on the Steam Store. They're lazy and they rarely fulfil complete promises; we are still waiting on dedicated server support (instead of P2P) that was promised on pre-release for VT2.

I certainly enjoyed both titles with friends, and received my monies worth, but the second entry was lacklustre against the first and I certainly felt that they didn't capitalise on the opportunity for a new game. In short; Fatshark missed a lot of potential and instead went for the easiest route of rehashing VT1 material rather than anything original. I am suspect of their design decisions in Darktide, and await further details with an indifferent attitude.

And with that being the case, I'd be surprised if Darktide is very different from Vermintide with a 40k flavour. Vermintide looked fun but not really my cup of tea, so if this ends up being a reskinned version I'll probably give it a miss too.

Surprised by the apparent setting though. A few random Guard dealing with.. anything that's vaguely threatening feels weird.

It’s not a few random Guard though is it.

It’s a few random humans sure. But they are working for an Inquisitor as it’s based around that.

Are people still crying about dedicated serves in 2020? That stuff isn't ever coming back for gaming.

They look like Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. Aren't those a lot higher trained, disciplined and equipped than your average guardsman or planetary defense force?

Also, I wonder which planet this will be set on.

Which is good in my view as they can tell a new story rather than rehashing something old. Of course no stories are ever new yadda yadda but hopefully twists may be a bit more unexpected.

We will have to wait for more information to know what the characters will be like. I would think it unlikely that we get several similar characters, as that really doesn't fit the Vermintide model. I am quite interested in the possibility of an Ogryn character, if only for the fun roleplay possibilities.

Yeah, if you're going into this game and you think to yourself "man if they show a red line coming out of my lasgun that will be so immersion breaking and I'll hate it" uh....I guess don't preorder it, because I PROMISE you they will give the player some visual feedback if they fire their gun.I promise.

I always love that people take the wildly, ridiculously, hilariously unrealistic premise of every single shooter in existence (one tireless, fearless, absolutely inhumanly durable supersoldier mowing down hundreds upon hundreds of enemies in a row with a gun) and then have these wild nitpicky realism complaints.

I think you are reading too much into what I said. I expressed a wish for a certain style of lasgun depiction. The more DoW style lasgun would hardly be a dealbreaker for me, I'm nowhere near the caricature you have described.
