So it looks like there are two types of seals. Metal ones, and ones that are stamped on with sealing wax. I wonder are there companies or some sort of organization that produces these seals. Would they be produced on world, or offworld and delivered to the rest of the galaxy?

I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.
I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

By the way, what is the source for that artwork?

A Google Image search suggests the FFG RPG "Deathwatch: The Outer Reach".

Yes, she's an inqiuisitor of the ordo chronos, note the hourglass in her hand. Names Velayne Ramaeus.

As to purity seals I wondr how many slaanesh fighters have taken them to roll up a nice big fat warpdust laced blunt with.

So the recent psychic awakening has people of extreme faith being able to withstand the effect of the new pariah monoliths.

Might mean that purity seals would help one to focus one's faith and protect from such things.

It probably helps if the “parchment” or the purity seal is the skin of a psyker. Early 40k was full of that kind of stuff.

In a bit of BG i did for a more pragmatic and less fanatical SM chapter, I had the idea that the 'purity seals' were actually the hopes and wishes of children written down in school on parchment and delivered to the marines that defended those worlds to be affixed to their armor as a reminder to them they literally were fighting for their people's children and future.

Sounds like something the Salamanders would do.

This sounds great, mind if I utilise this, my Salamanders totes approve

I'd be honored.

That's pretty ingenious of you. Maybe they could also be made from saint skins, SOB skins, even space marine skins to capture some of the strength and heroism of great warriors.

Yeah and then in the middle of battle you get half the chance that your purity seals turn into traitorous seals!

There's a lot of conflicting descriptions of exactly what purity seals are, let alone what they do.

Lexicanum currently says Space Marine chaplains write a task on them and have them affixed to a space marine's armour, and if the marine completes the task, then they're allowed to wear the purity seal on their armour (even though it's already been placed there??) but we also have material in various sources saying they're literally oaths of moment written and sworn by the marines wearing the armour or had previously worn the armour, and either kept in remembrance of the oath fulfilled or reminder to fulfill those oaths. Some sources say they're litanies or imperial prayers or hymns, while Black Templar sources say that their super long seals are prayers and hymns while everyone else's are not.

I think my favourite description has been from one of the FFG RPG books saying that a seal is a kind of testimonial to the weapon, equipment or person it's affixed to in order to commemorate some noble deed it did and protect it from whatever corrupting influence such a deed might otherwise place on it. Something like "I do declare that this boltgun, though there are many like it, did serve me loyally in times of great turmoil on Oriculi Major. It fired with precision and report as and when I demanded it and did not jam, and so delivered me from the wrathful hands of the arch-enemy. May the Emperor watch over this good, hard working boltgun. Signed Thrustus Maximus, 121th Tuvindian Gate Chargers."

I love this. Imagine when they are placed on a malfunctioning door. “Let it hereby be said that this door, though forever having faithfully allowed the servants of the Emperor enter to continue their holy works, now must rest. It stood fast during the incursion of Madrakk the skull taker, letting no heretic set foot on the other side. It’s long service to the Emperor must now have a moment of halt. Remember the faithfull remembers to take a moment for clarity to better serve the Emperor. It shall soon return to its service as one of the most faithful doors in our great Imperium” signed Meratious Domus of the door maintainment serfs, 1546MX brigade, 18th July M41.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

Now I kinda want to make a purity seal stuck in the teeth of the next big ‘Nid monster I build.

In the cult mechanicus game they are bothered by necron intruders. They try with insence, it does not work. They try with vox caster with prayers, it does not work. They try with a purge, it does help. I really like that they do not distinguish between symbolic and actual solutions.

In a universe where symbols will occasionally eat you from the inside out I always appreciate people taking time to understand the role of ritual, symbolism, and magic in 40k. It's my favourite part of the universe. Sometimes when weird alien stuff is trying to eat your face the best answer is a prayer and incense.

It's working exceptionally well. You can see how, even in extremis, he is not giving into temptation or sin.

Given how faith-based power works in the 40k universe, humans are effectively pink-skinned, weak orks with weird ideas, in that they both share the ability to will things to work how they want things to work (despite the protestations of the material universe) through sufficient faith.

So yes, purity seals would probably work, assuming enough orks (green or pink) believe/have faith it will work.

Oaths of moment are 30K thing, not really 40K. Though some Chapters might do them still.

Also, funnily enough, in DoW2, you have a number of 'relic' seals, taken from notable individuals or events, that grant pretty big bonuses. You could argue it has more to do with said individual or event, not the seal, but Imperial relics have various forms so why not important bits of paper too.
