Probably the only dread that can compete with FW dreads

Funny that, the average hellbrute is more enticing than 95% of FW dreads. There's just the issue, mail order only over here.

Nope, sorry, no tentacles and mutants in my Night Lords. I'll stick with my Night Lords Contemptors and Leviathan thanks.

Ferrum infernus dreadnought to the rescue.

You can still run a non corrupted baby dread in your night lords :p.

I suggest taking the blood angels death company dreads and sticking gargoyle wings on it. The lighning claws make for a killer power scourge count-as thats thematic with the NL

Casual, yeah, legends are fine.

Competitively, I think they should not be permitted, especially since they're being aggressively ignored from a rules perspective so anything that comes up with them in it won't be fixed.

In competitive play, I think FW stuff should be "soft banned" by pricing it just marginally too high to be good but still in range to be acceptable in casual play.
Legends is just not being considered for balance anymore, so I think that it should just be casual only.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

What's your reasoning on "soft banning" fw? And please remember that "gw doesn't/can't balance them correctly" is merely an argument that gw needs to do their jobs better.

Leviathan Dreadnought. That is all.

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Does that include the Hellforged Leviathan that has a 5++ instead of the loyalist leviathan's 4++ for the same points (more, if we're comparing butcher cannon arrays to storm cannon arrays)?

I say treat Legends like a Codex. Valid like all the other 8th ed codexes until replaced, or specifically removed by GW.

Good to know thanks guys. I am not concerned about my chaplain on bike (using an outrider bike and primaris body already to make him and we know a chaplain primaris on bike is coming) but its my lib that really concerns me. :p

TOs do what they choose. Here locally we still play legends. IMO it's not that big of a deal to play with or against them to be crimping on someone's favorite models.

Anyway some of use have discussed a middle ground which would be something like this: if a dex has a newer alternative for your model then use that. If not then use the legend. For example biker character matching the class you used previous to legends. If a newer version exists for your model use that. If not then use the legends entry. Seems to fit the intent well enough.

If my opponent wants to use them, fine. I don't use them in my armies anymore, because 'legends' and several events I used to go to don't allow them.

They should be fine to use in all levels of play, they're official GW rules.

That being said, I wish GW would give them a look at least once in an edition, and I feel that they ultimately have to if the rules are to remain compatible. One think to look forward to is how they handle the Legends marine units when the new codex is released and marines go to two wounds, a lot of weapon profiles get changed and no doubt certain special rules will be altered as well.

They could easily publish a little book like 'Legends of Warhammer' or something like that to give rules for Legends and the like. Although, I fear that they're too afraid to do that because of the Chapterhouse business..

I don't understand why this is ever a question. Like, EV-ER.

When Rogue Trader was first released in Hardback, you could create your own character. There were points for stats and wargear. The game was completely customizable. As long as you're playing casual games, why wouldn't you want that level of independence of mind?

I'm currently creating my own squat fandex and combining Kharadron Overlords models with GSC and T'au bits to make a "Squat" army. Because that's what the game was designed for.

Obviously, not a tournament army. I've played in those too, and I get the difference. But Legends aren't valid for tournaments so we're not even talking about that aspect of play.

I just want to say that it's too bad that you're so far away, I would love to play against your squats!

Incidentally, do you have any images?
