The real question for me was how did GW justify to them selves pricing these books the same as a codex.

Codex is 20 these should have been 8 at the most or part of white dwarf for what was delivered. Now I have the app I won’t buy any books again unless I am confident of their value. I can get the lore from the fan wikis.

The new codex previews will be interesting

After glancing through the contents of the 1st book, I knew this was nothing more than a cash grab that supplied nothing I was interested in.

The biggest telling point was a name generator for a game of hordes whose individual models have less than a turn's game time in play.

Still, If they ever go to the $5 bargain bin, I *might* pick them up just to have them - at least Greater Good.

It never ends well

The lore was mostly mediocre, especially since they kept the interesting parts out so you would buy the novels and audio books.

I bought both Saga of the Beast and War of the Spider for their great rules content and I don't regret it one bit.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

They justified it by the profits they made from people buying it. As long as you have people like BaconCatBug advising new players that they NEED these books in order to play, people will buy them. Also there's the GW die-hards who will buy anything 40k related that GW will gak out and the tournament players who feel the need to have every book with them at every game even if they don't use 95% of the rules.

The Tau/GSC/Guard one was really good.

That's about it.

it was frankly amazing to read a story where characters seemed to have flaws, oversight, motivations, emotions, and where I had some kind of doubt as to what the outcome would be.

made me think "gosh, is this what the background story for 40k could be?"

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I do have a question: blood of Baal is, if I'm correct, the cleaning and purging of the system after the victory on Baal. So we got two books (shields of Baal campaign) then the battle of Baal and finally that
How do you Blood Angels and tyranids feel about that ? Are you happy to see the events unfolding years after years or are you sick of having the same battle reenacted for 3-4 years ?

Are we talking people or game years? Because the Third War for Armageddon was only like 1 game year before the Indomitus Crusade. If you think about it a freakin lot happened in a year.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

As opposed to <insert name> Captain of <insert chapter name> heroically smites the enemies of the imperium through sheer iron will of the divine emperor?

I think that was the title of the ""Necron"" trailer.

Talking in real life here. I remember in 7th or 8th when shield of Baal was released in two parts and later we had the final (when they got saved my Guilliman...) And now we have this, the third act (could we call it the counter attack ? The cleansing if the system ?). That event of Baal has been spread between 2 or 3 editions already.

I don't mind the nids story focus being one area of the galaxy, but they just ended the story in such a contrived manner.

I never thought we were going to actually eat the Blood Angels homeworld but a K'banda (or however you spell it) just turning up at the same time Gulimans reinforcements arrive is just urrgh writing.

I actually enjoyed the fluff in Sheild of Baal etc has it had a great variety in environments and scope with all sorts of interesting variants on nid warfare.

Blood of Baal however was a distinct downturn in quality of background even if I really like the rules.

Picked up phoenix rising when it launched, saw GW gave me a big middle finger for my DE, gave them a middle finger back and didnt buy anything else from them.

didnt get any SOB rules, daemonfuge doenst count since she has 0 synergy with the codex and is dramatically overcosterd with the emo elf.

chaos daemon one for my slaanesh had ANOTHER copy/paste error for keeper of secrets. 3 publications all with completely different stat values! good job GW. glad i didnt waste my money on that crap.
