Hello! Relating to the earlier posts about dropping meltas with tauroxes, I was thinking of how you people do that technically. In my sort of limited understanding (started playing this year), the taurox moves forward at maximum speed on turn one, then the melta scions move out on turn two and hope that their targets are still reasonably close. That seems a bit chunky compared to the more direct way of deploying from a valkyrie with the precision drop stratagem.

Remember, you have orders to get the meltas in better range as well. With the smaller boards, i feel like meltas are always getting a target.

Ah yes, I guess the scions jumping out will disembark around 2", move 6" and then advance with the order 1-6", meaning a threat range of 15-20" for extra damage melta. It still feels a bit unsafe to trust the advance roll, and also a shame not to use the orders for say take aim or elimination protocols, but again I haven't really tried this out in-game.

@Smotejob what orders You have in mind?

Note that lambdas get reroll 1s from the captain aura on their warlord and sometimes procing laurels gives you all three.

So I run one of my primes with laurels of command so half the time he is issuing 2 orders to a unit.

My most common orders are:
Forwards for the Emperor - allows for shooting after advance.
Elimination protocols sanctioned (scion only) - reroll wounds vs monsters/vehicles
Take aim! - reroll 1s (unless i have a reroll 1s aura nearby from lions WL trait)

The others see less but still useful play.
I do always field a unit of 10 stock scions for FRFSRF! Then using a cp on point blank efficiency to bring them to str 4 shooting for 37 str 4 ap-3 (lions) reroll 1s aura shooting. Good at deleting marines for 90 points.

Bring it down is always useful for non monster/vehicles.

I rarely use move move move unless I really need the objective and I couldn't teleport or drive my tauroxs to it.

Fix bayonets is pretty straight forward and has decent synergy with lions getting ap-1 added to their close combat attacks... but if I'm using fix bayonets, generally something has gone wrong. I'd almost always rather just fall back and use get back in the fight.

Ok, be ready to try me for heresy...

Is there a way to take a scion detachment, keep regiment traits and benefits, and ally with genestealer cults?

Ie take a Battalion of 133rd lions and a patrol of GSC?

Pure RAW, they can (because the Brood Brothers rules explicitly preclude detachment abilities from the Astra Militarum codex but not other material, and the Scion rules are in a PA book). But they wont get the Elimination Protocols Order.

Obviously that loophole is by definition time limited until the 9th GSC and/or AM codices drop.

I don't believe it matters -- in that any unit in the brood brothers unit takes a regiment keyword "brood brothers" as a replacement for its regiment keyword, OR as an addition, if it lacks one. This is then the regiment of the unit. Its possible in gaurd eighth to take scions in with other units, like cadians, for example, but you lose the "scions detachment" regiment trait. In ninth, you lose the effect of the various specific subfactions of scions. Because its no longer pure scions, as long as one non-scion unit is in there not on the specific list of things that are allowed as allied units that don't break the detachment's scionicity. Those do not include any units from the list of units in regiment "brood brothers".

Hoi,

Played a decent amount of monoscions in 8th and now a few in 9th.

Mainly single bat with kappic or 133rd,
triprime
4xfull plasma
2xfull hotshot
melta commands
4-5 tauroxes
2-3 valks

9th is rough so far, the tauroxes perform ok with the insave from 133rd, and are fairly easy to hide behind the L-shapes.
The valks are one trick ponies, yes you can precision drop but if you go 2nd they are usually dead, also forces atleast 2 empty tauroxes beneath ready to pick up the scraps.
Havent got any bullgryns but think i will pick up a few boxes to try run with them.

The -ap is great in this marine meta, what is not so great is everything now has 2w and fnp, cant decide if the amount of plasmas are worth it or not.
My plan is to try go more msu-style, and run dual bat, mix kappic/133rd and drop the meltas for hsvg.

Cheaper throw away squads for engage and scramblers, easier to fit the new board size, yes they will probably give up grind them down.

According to the MUNITORUM FIELD MANUAL 2021 (copy paste - I'm not shouting), 'You can use this book to determine the points (pts) value of each unit in your army. Each entry lists the unit’s size (i.e. how many models the unit can contain) and how many points the unit costs. If an entry has a unit cost of ‘x pts/model’, then the unit costs x points for every model in that unit. You must then add points for each weapon, or item of wargear, that is included in that unit if it is listed in that unit’s entry (weapons and wargear not listed in a unit’s entry cost no additional points to include in that unit).'
Now the last part in the brackets is important.

A Taurox Prime for example has had its points increased to include its HSVGs and its mini battle cannon and you pay extra for the other weapons. It all comes to exactly the same price as before however.

There is 1 exception - Plasma Pistols for a Scion squad is now free! This is obviously an oversight since bolt pistols still cost 2pts and I certainly wouldn't take advantage and will instead pay the full 5pts. But RAW, Plasma Pistols are now free, on that squad and that squad alone. Might be worth knowing if you are attending any official tournament anytime soon.
