Finally finished up my first painted character. Really pleased with how she turned out in the end. Just needs a name now.

Up next, my kastelans.

C&C very welcome.

Lovely work, the yellow works fantastically on her. A seem less conversion too. As for names, she has a bit of a Morticia Addams vibe to her. Not sure how to grim dark that up though

Thanks! I like the Morticia Addams idea. Mortix Clardek - 941 or some such maybe.

Thankee kindly both, I always think my painting is fairly rubbish but I keep trucking along, it's nice to know it's not terrible.

Just been undercoating my dakkabots so will get some shots of them up soon.

Cheers

Just caught up with all of your posts, what a wonderful start to your project, loving the colour scheme of yellows and purples, and I like the bits of fluff you are starting to drop in as well. I second the above comments about the GSC Magos conversion, cracking work.

Thanks Flapjack, I was really worried about the bases at first, I thought maybe double yellow would look weird but I think it's different enough from the robes to stand out.

Thanks Scoundrel! Yeah I need to add more fluff because I really enjoy it.

Just some quick updates on my skorpius dunerider conversion. A project which I almost immediately regretted! Fiddling about with the tracks was a huge time consuming thing. But hopefully the end result is still okay. Would love some feedback, see what people think.

Will start painting that after I've built my other kastalen.

Cheers!

I love the look of your adeptus Mechanicus so far, it's nice to see non-red schemes.
As for your dune rider, the concept is awesome but I think your first thought of the tracks being too big is right.
In my opinion, the round bit not overhanging the tracks makes it look like the tracks are ballooning out cartoon style.
Maybe just shift the tracks closer to the centre line?

Looking good! It does look a bit big, but it fits right in with the Imperium's urge to overcompensate!

Thanks Guardling! Yeah the reason it looks like that is it is based on this Italian WW1 tank - the Fiat 2000.

Unfortunately it came out too late in the war to be any use but it looks absurd enough to be 40k.

Waaaaargghhhh!! Dakka dakka dakka! I mean.. ahem... Praise the Omnissiah!

The first of my kastalens has stomped and clanked out of the weapons vault. The correct binaric hymns have been sung and the WD40000 has been successfully applied.

I went for a reversal of my yellow scheme to really accentuate that the kastalens are ancient creations and clearly different to the rest of my force. I also really like the Soviet cosmonaut vibe these models have and I thought that the green and red would bring that to the fore.

I have been reinspired by a reddit post that my ambots wouldn't look too bad next to the kastalens, I can always mount them on a bit of cork to add height and I'll add the flamers from the other kit to make them the other version.

Let me know what you guys think!

Very nice colour scheme and conversions! The choice of colours is particularly clever. This is shaping up into one memorable Mechanicus force!

Thanks KNC!

So terrible progress in that it has nearly been a month since my last post and I have never managed to pick up a paintbrush. My excuse is that I have been moving house yet again so it has been a lot of fiddling about.

I took a group shot of my little force so far, now that I have a little hobby space set up I'm going to be doing some painting later on!

I think they actually look rather nice all grouped up.

So awaiting my time and effort I have:

1 enginseer
1 dominus
10 skitarii which I think by the sound of it are going to become vanguard
1 kastalen and their shepard
3 kataphron
1 dunecrawler
1 dunerider
2 ambots to turn into kastalens
5 jackals to turn into kerengrad

Once I get through all of that I think the next buy will be an ironstrider.

Thanks for looking!

I really like the color scheme and also the conversions so far. I do think that I agree with the sentiment that the treads are a bit too big, but even still its cool.

I think you might find that Ambots are a bit too small to be Kastelan robots. I've seen people turn Ambots into Kataphron Breachers/Destroyers a fair amount though.

@Warboss_Waaazag and @Flapjack thanks both! Hope you both enjoy this update!

@ph34r thanks! I'm hoping the photos below of the completed beast of metal and magic will reduce the tread size problems. As for the size, I'm hoping to do some creative cork work. I think they'll fit well with the new ad mech codex.

So without further ado... I present the painted skorpius dunetreader. She's a grimy, mighty machine, belching smoke and stubber fire.

My adepts value the ancient above all else, so their armour, weapons and vehicles are well worn, corroded but still battle worthy.

I'm glad this little project is finally done, means I can finally focus on my other delightful creations.

I want to do my little kettenkrads next but I've still not found someone to help me 3d print some little tracks for the back.

In the mean time I'll build more vanguard and paint up my other dakkabot.

Let me know what you guys think about the dunetreader.

Cheers.

EDIT: Have updated the photos and resized them

Hi everyone,

Quick update to reveal my techpriest enginseer.
He's been sat waiting with just a yellow basecoat for the past 4 months and I've finally got him painted up.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. I think the cog decoration on the robes needs some work, it just looks a bit off but not sure what exactly.

Tried out some new sand that I picked up from an archaeological site I'm working on, it's very useful to be able to nab free basing material. That orange colour is pure natural, just needed a little contrast and some of the blue.

If you check out the base, I did a quick tester for my space Tomb Kings from the Indomitus box. I figured a bone and turquoise colour would look pretty darn neat. Might try that out on a full model soon.

Also if you are wondering where my techpriest's servo skull might be, well, there was an incident.

Yesterday, one of our cats snuck her way in to the spare room and ran amok. I can only assume she was persuaded by Tzeentch to do so.

Here she is pretending she's never done a single evil thing in her life..

If I haven't melted into a puddle of misery from this heatwave here in the UK then up next I'll maybe paint a breacher or the other kastalen or maybe build the crab tank..? Who knows!

Good work on the enginseer, something that can make freehand look straighter is to give it an edge highlight or to "trim it down" with the yellow

Thanks both, I'll definitely try that with the edge highlighting Guardling thanks!

So a little update today of my tech priest dominus. Behold their mighty structure and prepare to tremble before the might of Magos Dominus Xantheos Lazarin.

Started it on Thursday night, was going to finish it last night but went to the pub so just done some last minute touches this morning. I might add a few odds and sods to the base. But I'm pretty happy with how they look so far.

I really love the tech priest dominus model, it really encapsulates the dark, horrorific look of the Mechanicum. It's also very Blanche which is an added bonus. My favourite part of the model is that walking stick the magos has, it oozes that almost corpulent ancient feel. It was a real shame getting rid of it but I figured they didn't need it what with the treads.
I would have just built the model as is but I just don't like doing that, I always want my models to have my own personal feel to them. I always try to add in some conversions somewhere.

Anyway let me know what you folks think

Probably be a while before I paint them, far too scared of ruining it with my paint job haha.

@ragsta and @gobert - cheers both, glad you like the colour scheme and the apc.

So as I mentioned a few months back now, I bought some Necromunda Ambots with the idea of using them as count-as Kastalens. I wanted my technoarchaeologists to have some excavators to dig out and uncover lost archaeotech. I love the ambot models a lot, great construction crew vibe. So I wanted to keep the bulk of that intact.

Now I knew they'd be a bit smaller, but yesterday some larger bases and some bits for my kill team finally arrived in the post. So this morning I set about building one of the bots. Wasn't until the end when I realised just how toty wee the legs were! Stumpy little buggers. So I had a bit of fannying about to do in order to bulk them out a bit. So here's the first one done and I'm fairly pleased with the end result.

As I've mentioned a lot on this forum, converting minis is honestly my favourite part of the hobby. I love having unique models because I want them to tell a story. And telling a story is really what this is all about. 40k lore is massive and I love my little plastic lads to make their own tales. And as you might have guessed with Magos Xantheos, I'm upping the ante a bit

Let me know what you folks think, I'd love some feedback!

Cheers!
