Sneaked a few hours in this eve. Messed about with some cut sprue and chopped-up bits plus some Ravenguard. Decided on a heavily dulled metallic, nuln oil and dry-brushing on my Terminator Captain, TH/SS in progress but I may have to order a Stormcast shield arm as the Custodes isn't a great fit. I'm going to try and find the Deathwing Feathered Helm for him but that's a long shot!

Edit - An hour or so this morning, starting to look ok now. The model is a lump when stood next to a normal marine.

Almost finished, just rivets, bolts, gems, and some more black ink into the armor panels.

An hour or so this eve on the Sanguinary/Vet Vanguard jump packs, I didn't realize the wings fit onto the torse/back of the Sanguinary guard models so I've had to do some cutting. Drybrushed the vents/exhaust and will clean up/highlight the feathers at a later date.

Sadly I'm having to bench the project for the second, I've got a serious amount of bits I'm going to prime whilst the weather is nice.

Some progress on the Vanguard squad. Black ink, few bits of grey to bring to life, same with the gold and I'm going to call them done aside from the sgt.

Two years after design and the best part of a year since starting The feet need some ink in the recesses and a tidy up/blend from the highlight into darker grey in places looking at larger images of it, plus the halo under the left side of the body needs some additional cutting but almost there.

Company vets now starting to take shape, a long way off finished paint wise but I wanted to see how they look at least partly assembled.

Quick little trial to see how the arms fit around/over the shields, now time to break them apart again and start to focus on the detail until the remaining right arms are ordered. I used two Custodes shield arms as I like the additional armor plate and gem on the arm, fitted okay and is predominantly hidden behind shields so I got away with the scale difference with a little trimming.

Started to work on the legion champion, fair way off completion and I'm sick of painting purple cloth for the time being. Most likely going to swap the head out for another stormcast and still undecided on what legs to use as yet. I was going to use the halberd's on my techmarines but with a bit of cutting I can get the spear/halberd tip with a raised arm to point directly over his shield for a 300 look - photos to come once I've cut stuff about and am happy with it.

Muchas gracias! Famous last word hey.. The Champion won't be for a while as my next bitz order is incredibly pricey and a multitude of other things still need painting but it shall be done (eventually), rethinking the stormcast helm for him and tempted by the Deathwing feathers now they've arrived. As much as I like the molten blade I'm swaying back to using them on the techmarines and just buying another for the Champion.... procrastination my faithful companion!

A little bit of progress on the Champion, not the final model but it's allowed me to add on some decorative items and shape the model - considering a mid-jump pose obviously. Also kitbashed a Multi-Melta for the Dreadnought, cut off the las-cannon and chopped a bit of the SoB Flamer from an Immolator tank. Much like the Champion, it's early days.

I've been sidetracked from the Company Vet's by these guys, I think I'm just trying to prolong going back to more purple cloth

Legion Champion - Still undecided on what set of legs to use but I'm certainly buying a set of AoS Prosecutor wings for the backpack, bit of a rework on the cape, still need to lighten with a few more shades from the darker purple. Also planning to swap out the flying stand and replace it with a watcher in the dark, so he'll be jumping off the top of the power sword the watcher is holding.. possibly. (should make a nice photo jumping over the Company Vet's shields -who needs rocks!)

First Dev marine put together, 2 kneeling - a couple of beaky helms with wreaths to keep the theme going.

Finally a couple of blades I've been messing about with, I admit I struggle with power weapons still, these were stripped back with a deer skinning knife and saved from a horrid dry brushing experiment.. I need to focus on smaller gradients I feel, as I got a bit lost on the transitions (yellow to orange and orange to red need more work - I messed up some dry brushing after glazing so the repair work is needed sadly) I've one more blade to practice on which I'm going to try the "chevron" technique with my glazing this time - kind of forces me to work on smaller transitions.

Thanks! I'm starting to work out the contrast medium at 6:1currently, I feel going double that would Ironically make the job easier.

I've just (half) finished this little guy, amusing little detour, I've got some ammo boxes to decorate the base, the same with the Dev squad, as I'm not using their original backpacks.

A little progress on the Champion, gluing the pose was.. challenging. The base will certainly need to be weighed and I'm still undecided on a backpack as yet.

Thanks It's been a pain in the ass but I like the pose now. I ruined the cloth on the cape when holding the model in place to glue - my fault for changing the plan midway through. I'm going to get some purity seals to cover the join on the cloth I've added then it'll be back to painting the model until I decide on a backpack for it.

I've also started work on a Lascannon conversion for one of the Dreadnoughts using the original barrel and a hunter-killer missile from SoB
(if by luck anyone in the UK reading this has one for sale please shout! As I'm close to buying a rhino just for that one part - although there is some nice kitbash potential in there also)

I'm going to wrap up my buying models pretty soon and work backwards on what I have so I can get everything to a standard I'm entirely happy with, perhaps not the most pretty or silky painting going, but I like the gritty grimdark feel to the army which I wanted from the project's inception. Starting with the Terminator Captain.

Company Vet's are finally fully assembled, starting to focus on the metallic's again and where light would be on armor. The two running models need additional layers on the cloth also but I'm happy with the models in general and some of the poses. One of the removed skulls on the helm is pretty visible, going to try and get a knife in there to shave a little off when I build up the courage.

Finally decided on a backpack for the Champion with a little modification.

small bump, I've had no time to paint sadly and it will remain the same for a while. That said I've now got the final bits to round off all the squads I've been building. If I get another three models painted within the next six-nine months, all the prep work done for future models and worked backwards on details with what is already painted I'll be happy.

A couple of models from the kill team? box to add a little more variety to the dev squad (also had a rethink on helmets and am going to get IH mk3/4's from FW as they have the old-school optics)
The IH robot dude as a proxy Techmarine for obvious reasons, added in two bionic arms for good measure alongside a Skitari?Eliminator? head.
The second half of my Dread's custom Lascannon plus a load of servo skulls and Ravenwing stuff for the future 4 Dreads to come.

Pretty clever use of those HK missiles. It will be cool to see when it's mounted on the dread.

Cheers, if its anything like the last one, it'll be uploaded in early 2024...

Made a start on the KillTeam Devastator guy, removed the Fist symbols and changed the pauldrons. I've blocked everything in - as with the rest I'll detail after the last 3 models (Dev marine, Dev Sgt and Techmarine) are complete.

I've also started to look at options for an infiltrator/incursor kitbash with mkiii/iv components and am going to be making my own suppressors with a sanguinary guard and FW autocannon combo, though I'm really in no rush to buy the bits yet.

Small update: Another of the Dev squad blocked in, he was an utter asshat, had to lengthen the neck to accommodate the Corvus and cut off the original pauldron/arm and replace it with a more decorative one, the fit isn't perfect so I need to green stuff the gap where I made the cut. Aside from that just the Sgt to go now.

On a side note, I've just got my hands on an SM command HQ tank boxset and a Land Raider Terminus plus another set of HQ tank decals/upgrades along with a ton of bitz.

- Looking to put some LEDs inside the LR's a couple of marines inside plus some additional goodies for decoration.

That's the only detour from my list. I'm looking forward to the project, a lack of time to actually do anything with it will allow some theory time on the detail!

(to date the only thing I've actually bought from GW is paint and glue )

In an effort of escapism, I've put a few hours into the beginnings of my LR's. I'm looking at SoB Castigators as a viable method of making a LR Crusader Terminus, I'm half certain the gun mounts match. The Castigator body will then partly be used to provide a more decorative base for a Whirlwind and the HK missiles used for a second las-cannon conversion.

As I'm painting everything by hand brush I thought I'd try lightly sponging lighter greys onto my base layer (after watching some inspiration at 52 miniatures - I love his tangents of narrated internal dialogue - I'm not alone in my procrastination) working up from my base Eshin up to Slaanesh grey, this was then dulled down with some Nuln and 4-5 layers of incredibly weak Nuln/Runefang Steel dilution from an earlier spillage, ironically its this wash which now ties my armies main color together, the speckled effect is lost under the washes - half intended but it has given some life to the large panels. I went really heavy and purposefully left pools of the Nuln to kind of replicate grime and oil residue.

Techmarine is almost complete also, just waiting on bases and to muster the effort to glaze the other side of his halberd/axe. Photo's at some point soon(ish)

More progress on the LR - now waiting on another tin of primer to arrive. I'm a huge advocate of pre-assembly painting but I've had a nightmare with this (likely, in the most part due to being an old model - warped) It was soul-destroying watching my paintwork become mullered by glue, vice marks, and forceful handprints. Huge amounts of gap filling and general aggravation so the lesson is firmly learned. Note to self: ASSEMBLE LARGE MODELS BEFORE PAINTING. Despite the setbacks/flaws, it gives me something to work on until my delivery/order arrives. Personally, I feel I'm going to avoid large models in the future as I found the process utterly frustrating.

I'll be putting a few extra decorations on the Exlecsior, also couple of seated models and one operating the consol inside the LR but I've decided against lighting/ LED's for the time being (likely to end up in another of the LR's)

I'm going with 2 Warpsmiths modded for my Dev squad sergeants as they have similar armor patterns, whilst adding a little more flavor. Backpacks will be swapped out for Signum's? (already got two in my bitz box) and the Warpsmiths backpacks will be used on my custom Techmarines (who now just needs a base)

Terminus will be the next project (assembled before painting...) and then back to painting all the additional pieces I'll be adding to a custom Infiltrator and Suppressor units.

A little more progress on the LR, I've just finished drilling out the heavy bolters with a lot of touch-up work and final detail to be done. A few items are out of stock at Element so I'm still waiting on primer. Currently, fairly busy IRL so it's not such a bad thing, the gaps... aside from that I'm happy with how it's coming along. With the release of the HH box, I may finally be making my first model purchase directly from GW! (perhaps)

Yet another side project... Espern Locarno, UR-025, and Techpriest Daedalosus who will be part of my collection of misfits and oddities tagging along with Grombrindal, Vhane, and her relic Servitor. I also bought what is the beginning of the scenery the army will eventually be shelved upon.

So far as the Excelsior goes, I'm now on the final details of the top hatches, mounted boltguns, and HKM.
