Totally agree on sub assemblies these days. I think GW just has to bite the bullet and include recommended sub assemblies in the instructions.

These days if you follow their directions you'll get a gorgeous, intricate model, that is @#$%ing impossible to paint.

Recommended sub assemblies sounds like a good idea. And therefore the very antithesis to GW's current existence.

Though I will certainly give them credit for their engineering skills. This model only have three plastic sprues and two of those are identical. It's quite ingenious how the model all comes together when you are building it.

Here's my latest X-wing related commission, Yoda's personal starfighter. I'll be the first to admit to admit that the paint job really isn't anything special, but that's not the point. No, the most noteworthy thing about the ship is how damn tiny it is. I'm certain that this is the smallest model I've ever painted on a commission basis.

Lol, that is almost comically tiny!

Not a commission for once, but rather a challenge I set for myself. A diamond pattern, large amounts of yellow, free hand designs and object source lightning makes for a fearsome combination in terms of complexity. And yellow will forever be Satan's gift(?) to painters.

A Starviper with fairly straightforward paint job though the wings have been modified so they can fold. You could say the pilot is a real 'Ace'... Yeah I'll see myself out...

Another Starviper with the same folding wings mod, though with a far more complex paint job. This time the Monarch butterfly served as inspiration.

Damn it's been almost three months since my last post. Though admittedly, my latest project took a great deal longer than I had anticipated. Speaking of...

This is one of the models I've been working on, a Star Wars Legion LAAT/le patrol transport unit. The paint job is not really anything special, just the standard imperial light grey. However it has been upgraded with a few extra features.

The passenger bay and crew compartment has been fully painted and the doors and canopy (I used 28 tiny 1x1 mm magnets on it) can be opened/removed. The crew can also be removed and the lower pair of solar panels can fold so the model can land properly.

My latest project is rather special. It is a set of two speeders intended for Star Wars Legion, though I do not really know what they are supposed to represent in game.

These are based on some concept art that the commissioner liked. I was originally supposed to scratch build them, but the commissioner made such a good 3D model that it was instead decided to 3D print everything. I only had to add some details, do some simple modifications and paint the whole lot.

The crew models will be included in my next post.

And here is the promised crew. All of them are magnetized and can be swapped around between six possible positions in the speeders. However, some are limited to only one or two places due the poses they are in. For instance, the drivers in particular can only realistically be placed in the drivers seat.

Here's what is basically an add-on to the LAAT/le project I finished earlier this year, four stormtroopers disembarking the vehicle.

Two provides covering fire while the other two rappels down. They provide no in game benefit, they are just there to add some style and flair to the model. All magnetized of course so they can be removed should it be necessary to close the hatches. Fun little side note, I had to raid my mother's sewing kit to find a 'rope' of suitable thickness.

Fantastic as always!

Of course these days I'd expect that any rappelling to be done will be done by Rappel Troopers with unique armor, since you can't sell new toys otherwise

So I've been introduced to the Star Wars Resistance show recently and they have a lot of cool looking ships. So here is my take on Blue Ace.

I've never seen Resistance either, but from what I've heard from others, Resistance wasn't the best show, with the perhaps biggest stand out feature being the ship designs.

Blue and Red Ace, as well as five more ships I haven't shown to the world yet, are from Mel Miniatures on Shapeways, https://www.shapeways.com/shops/mel_miniatures,

I often say that the first rule of painting yellow is to never paint yellow. And yet here I am with another Ace from Star Wars Resistance, appropriately named Yellow Ace.

I feel that Black Ace from Star Wars Resistance is a bit of a misnomer as it actually doesn't feature much black at all. Though I suppose 'Dark Grey Ace with White markings' doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Jarek Yeager's personal ship is another one with yellow as a decent part of the colour scheme, but this time that wasn't the most difficult part. While it might be difficult to see, it's the grey colour mixes that are annoying.

There's something like five or six grey mixes on this ship, and when you have that many similar colours on one model, often very close to each other as well, it can be difficult to make them distinct enough from each other. There's a very real risk of colours basically blending together.

Two posts this time as I quite frankly forgot to post this one last week.

Anyway, I'm rather proud of this one since I've managed replicate just about all of the sponsor decals found on the original. They might not always be perfect representations, but they are present and accounted for and this ship is already small to begin with.

In fact on some of the detail photos you can see pieces of debris/lint close to the decals, normally those are so small that the human eye can barely see them unassisted, so it should provide a decent size comparison. And before anyone asks, I painted these by hand without any sort of magnification.
