Great idea for a thread
Another very old art book is Blood & Iron - by Les Edwards https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blood-Iron-Edwards/dp/185515000X
Not exclusively GW art, there is a lot of other fantasy and horror, but this was from the time GW used to commission artists for specific pieces before they had in-house artists.
So you have stuff like the Heroquest box covers, the Chaos liber book covers, White Dwarf mag covers (basically, a lot of the standout, iconic art from that period).

The World of Warhammer - OOP - An ancient splatbook (4th / 5th edition?) detailing in broad strokes the Old World and the races inhabiting it at that time.
Can anyone tell me a bit more about this book? Was it just reprinting basic info you got in the WFB starter boxes of the time (e.g. the Battle Book from 5th ed with its overview of each race)? Or did it go into more detail? Was it copy-pasted from the Army books, or original text?
Author was 'Richard Wolfrik Galland', an author I'm unfamiliar with. Looks like there was a 4th ed printing and a 5th ed one with a different cover, but presumably the same material inside.

I have the World of Warhammer book, it is not a copy / paste of the army books of the era, nor a reprint of the battle book, but is it’s own thing. It is full of big gorgeous artwork from the later 4th / 5th Ed era, really rich colours. Each race gets a bit of detail of who they are, where they live, how and why they fight etc. It’s a nice artefact if you can get it for a reasonable price but I doubt you’ll get much ‘new’ out of it if you have the Battle Book and army books from that era.
Some more lore books that are worth tracking down for fantasy fans;
Grudgelore - Awesome dwarf splat book
The Empire at War - a study of some of the Empire’s famous battles written from the POV of an retired(ish) Empire general.
The Vile Ratmen and their Loathsome kin - Skaven splat book, had a recent reprint

Thanks for the info I thought I knew all the books from that period, but had never heard of that one. I hereby set out to wander the world in search of greater knowledge (and reasonable eBay prices).
Going back to the OP, should the Daemonifuge 40K comic be on the list? That had a collected release just like Darkblade and The Redeemer, didn't it?

There's a book from 1993 that just says "Warhammer 40,000" and "John Blanche" on it. It contains the interior art he did for 2nd edition, including a couple pieces I've never seen elsewhere.
I don't think GW ever sold this book, it was probably just given out to staff. But they did eventually offer it as part of the Skulz reward program.

I don't know if anyone else has seen, but artists like Dave Gallagher, Adrian Smith and Karl Kopinski are all on instagram and regularly share some great warhammer art as well as other stuff. Definitely worth a look, Dave Gallagher in particular talks about the constant time pressures, technology changes as the years progressed.
