A bit more bang-rark-boom would be nice, but the rate of fire is not huge a bit less than from Astartes, for example. I recall the bolter in Fire Warrior being super low ROF and that was too much in the opposite direction.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Scotland, but nowhere near my rulebook

Having gone from watching this down a quick rabbit hole of watching youtube videos of Bren guns and M2 50 cals, I think you're right - RoF is definitely below both.

Can't say I'm enjoying what I've seen so far. I hope they are bringing in better quality for the sound, particularly the bolter.

So far my biggest dislike is the crappy iron sights, they're just straight out of CoD.

And the gun has no weight to it. That reload animation... the gun and mag were made of lightweight expanded polystyrene from the looks of it.

And yeah, the rate of fire was very high and the effects were basically the same as the autogun.

It needs a high rate of fire, otherwise it wouldn't be suitable for the spunkgargleweewee genre crowds. /s Sarcasm aside, it could do with a meatier bark, this isn't Call of Duty with its underwhelming gun sounds FFS.

But the excessive recoil makes some sense according to older fluff. If you're not genhanced or power armour enhanced, you were supposed to fire the bolt weapon at a slight angle or something, because the exhaust gasses of the projectile would enter the barrel of the weapon upon igniting, causing the weapon to buck.

Character has bionic arms so I more surprised they can't handle the recoil better rather than making it look lightweight. Effectiveness definitely seems a bit underwhelming so far.

Yeah, it sounds too puny.

The Space Marine game had a better sounding bolter, they should have aimed for something more like that.

That kraken pattern semi auto bolter, now that was a gun sound, especially if you had the bass cranked up.

Not gonna lie, if that guy shot the wall in front of him with an actual boltgun, he, the wall, and anything on his side of the wall, is toast. Explosives go both ways...but I know, video game.

You're forgetting relative motion, small charge size, the fact that it's a mass reactive penetrator and clearly didn't enter the target, and the fact that this is a human usable bolter, meaning the bolt round only weighs a few ounces. You might get some shrap, but not a lot. It's not a grenade launcher, despite what some people think when you say 'bolter'.

Hah. I play world of tanks, and every time I get the “sniper” award for highest accuracy in the game, it’s games where I’ve just been parked next to enemy tanks and throwing shells in their face.

June 1st on digital stores, June 30th in retail stores?

Actually had to do a double take at that. It seems so... quaint.
Ah, I see. They aren't actually bothering with a physical PC edition, just console discs.

Ooo, but they're aiming for backwards compatibility. Warning flag on the field there. Optimization and level size might be awful.

How many companies bother with physical PC editions?

I remember when Metal Gear Solid V came out and the physical PC version was a DVD with the Steam client loaded onto it and nothing else.

Not many, which was why I did a double take. It's a pointless expense for the publisher.

I figured consoles had largely gone that way as well.

I'd say we're at least a generation away from that happening, if not more.

The thing about consoles is ease of use. They are pretty much plug'n'play, which is not what you can say about PCs. The fact that you stick a disc in and it just works is a big factor.

Making it download only adds a whole host of complications that, over time, will become less of an issue (and already are in a lot of ways), but like I said, we're not there quite yet.

Snerk. PCs are definitely plug and play at this point. I can't remember the last time I had to change settings or manually set values for video and sound cards at game installation. I'm pretty sure that was last century. Once in a blue moon I update video drivers, and usually that doesn't even matter.

The main difference for consoles isn't an out-of-date plug and play factor, but the drive to still sell to low-income customers who don't have reliable internet. They still want the sales, so... physical shops. And I still hear console players moaning about needing updates, so often 'just the discs' aren't enough anyway.

Neat. Sounds like they'll be reusing some of those Deathwing assets.

So.....all the videos look like a mix between borderlands and Deathwing terminator game I forget the name of.

I don't like the look. It's ugly, dark, harsh lights, bad effects.

Not seeing borderlands. Especially not in this video- too much non-combat time, and the non-cell shaded art style makes it look completely different.

If anything, someone was trying to ape Cyberpunk here, and I'm not sure that's such a great idea. Gives the vibe of great background scenery between quests, but shallow.

The combat still looks like DOOM Eternal, which doesn't appeal to me.

Not gonna lie, you are going to see this in all FPS games for a long time. It happens every time there is a major success in the Genre. After CoD came out everything was CoD-like. Same with Doom 1, Serious Sam, Duke Nukem 3d(Any build game for that matter), and Quake.

Now if it's not a Retro Build engine remake jank, it's pretty much gotta be a Doom clone. There is very rarely anything new in First Person Shooters. The newest thing was likely the hyper pixel cell graphics of Borderlands, and even that was taken from XIII.

Not a fan of DOOM Eternal either, but it would still be a step up from Deathwing's weak gunplay.

Interesting take on the shooting sound, glad they didn't go with the usual pew-pew noise. Also noticed that it can be overcharged.

I would really love for the grenade launcher to have choices between frag and krak... doesn't look like thats part of the game though :(

The lasgun sound is nice, but it seems to play like a high powered sniper rifle, rather than a standard infantry line weapon. The overcharge is a nice mechanic though, allowing for hot-shot nonsense and all.

These weapons still don't have any real kick to them. On the bright side, the grenade launcher is making their weird "doonkh" noise that it did in Terminator 2.

So this always raised a silly logical question in my head. Lasers shouldn't have a kick. It's just light beams, you can't charge up light and cause a kick. Also, in the Gaunt books it talks about "clips" for the lasguns, and they have to be a certain Calibre. Again, no calibre, it's JUST LIGHT.
