To be fair space marines are GW's heroes and so naturally are going to be better at close combat than most other factions' infantry units. /sarcasm

Just tired of boyz bouncing off Space Marines. If I actually get all those T4 6+ save models into CC i should be rewarded by squishing Space marines.

Im on the opposite spectrum, its got a nice character to it and looks proppa orky! It also serves as a fantastic base for further conversion/modifying.

As someone who has just started a feral ork army last month (I've used so many Savage Orruk bodies...) I cant wait to have a mixture of savage boars and squig cavalry to really overrun the enemy gun line!

That's a great concept. I've thought the orks should be riding quadrupedal squigs (like land sharks!) for years now in 40K instead of boars.

This is a new model I'll definitely pick up a unit of!

The squig is great, I just don't like the rider. I also fear that they suffer from the buggy issue, where you have three pairs of ork/grot riders hanging of the same squig in the same angle.

I wonder if the Beast-Snaggas will be part of the Ork Codex, or a separate codex army. be cool to see another Xenos codex. I'm looking forward to seeing more of their line, especially the chariot shown in the teaser video.

I hope they're just an addition to the codex/ a keyword, just like freebooterz or speed freaks. We don't really need a special book for every subfaction, we're not Space Marines .
Overall I wonder how they'll combine the Klan rules and subkultures in the new book. I'm pretty sure they'll throw out the strange either/or between Klan and subkulture.

It's the face of the ork, I think. Something about the faces of the newest orks doesn't click with me; if I can replace the head I will. Everything else about the sculpt is fine.

The face (nose) is part of it. The tan pants and light skin aren't great either. The ork looks washed out (or over-highlighted) compared to the squig.

Seems cool, the new Orks do look a bit weird as others have pointed out. Hopefully they can be fixed with a kitbash or paintjob.

Unsure if I should buy some extra boxes of boys now just in case GW ruins them? The new Chaos Space Marine kits were really good though so there is some hope.

I realised that this is yet another thing that was teased in Psychic Awakening's echoes of awakening...

Arnulf, I was right you blizzardblind trollson. You owe me a keg of Slavnir’s best. Gunnar picked up the trail again just south of the sulphridium mines and, I swear by Russ’ fangs, there is no way this was just ‘wild beasts’. There’s enough tracks for dozens of… Fenris knows… some kind of steeds maybe? Claw marks. Deep indentations… these things were big, whatever they were. Wheel ruts too, big tyres and tracks carrying plenty of heft. Drag marks like they were pulling things along in their wake. And the rubbish! By the flames of the fire season, there were broken bits of metal and wood, scattered chunks of meat and bone, spent casings and scraps of Allfather knows what else. It’s Orks, Arnulf, sure as I’m Fenrisian. It’s Orks, and we’re going to hunt them. I’ll bring you back a tusk or two so you don’t forget how wrong you were, eh?

I am now convinced that every last one of those text blurbs is teasing something for this edition.

First the paint job on the model is uninspiring to say the least. Orks are to be a good solid green. Not grot yellow green with umie tan highlights.
Second the white primary color for the snakebites is ridiculous. Safe the white for space marines and Eldar. I use a orange primary color and a dark brown for a secondary color plus add in various grays and other browns. It gives them a nice worn look.
Third the pig nose on the squig. It has to go. Us old timers remember the boar boy riders of long ago. If your not using boars no need to put on a pigs nose on them. Don't get me wrong I am glad they are binging ork calvary back I just wish they would have put more effort into it. I may want to add some bike guns to them so they can be snakebite bike riders.

For me it’s the paint job, and a common one in modern Ork paint jobs. The skin is just too light for me. Here, he’s the same shade as the weedy lirrul Grot behind him.

It’s always been in my head that Orks are a deeper green than Grots, and they continue to get darker as they get harder.

I don't like the face of the Ork and the fact he's riding a squig rather than a boar. But the latter I can live with, it's obvious they want a bit of distinction between their fantasy/AoS Orks and the 40k ones.
Overall as a development I think it's nice though. More Snakebite support that can also be included in other clan armies is nice to see. Outside of the FW big Squigs Snakebites always felt a bit unfinished to me model-wise compared to the other clans.

That was literally true in Fantasy.

In 40k, its harder to say. It doesn't seem to be in Waaargh the Orks, but there's only one grot model pictured and he's pretty dark. If anything its clan based in this book- the Bad Moons in that book are a lot lighter in skin tone, while goffs are fairly dark. Evil sunz and death skulls are in between. Snakebites seem to be a different shade just so that they can have brown tattoos show up

I like the idea of a squig rider, but the more I look at this model, the less I like the actual execution. At first I thought it was just the unflattering paint job, but the more I look at the squig itself, the more I think it's the model. It's far too porcine. If they wanted to do the classic boar thing they should have done the boar thing; this half-squig half-pig thing feels like it ends up being neither.

An alien riding a ugly alien, for me thats much better in a sci fi setting than an alien riding a boar.

In fantasy it made sense, but boar riding orks in 40k not really.

I would have prefered a more squiggy squig mounth thats true. But at the same time, Squiggoths and Gargant Squiggoths are basically dinosaurs, and not that much similar to normal squigs.

I'm not saying they don't make sense because "normal mount" vs cybernetic one.

Orks are not a race. They are a whole ecosystem. It makes sense for orks to have all kind of Squig based animals because they appear where orks appear. Boars tought? They are a complete different animal. A port over from fantasy than in the logic of 40k make no sense.

Yeah there has basically beenn a Squig for every situation in the Ork lore for years.
They are essentially the multi purpose creature that can be or do anything the Orks happen to need.

But for whatever reason they have never really factored into the 40k Ork army list that much.

And hair squigs. Fun fact: orks have no hair. That's a squig, biting into the scalp, on every ork with top knots. Or beards.
