I couldn't resist, and ate the bonkers UK shipping cost so that I could dive into the PDF. This game looks stellar from a first read. I cannot wait to give it a playtest this weekend.

Fallout Co-Op and RPG modes were a little... hmmm... undercooked, but this seems really thoughtfully and intentionally designed from the jump.

Thank you for the support and I hope you have a blast!

The game has had the benefit of a few years of people playing it, telling me what was wrong etc. so it has a bit of an advantage in that regard

Really excited to get the rules in a nice hardback edition, can’t wait for the US store to open. Was just wondering if you were planning on doing the same with 5 Leagues from the Borderlands and 5 Clicks from the Zone?

Cheers. Right now there is no specific agreement for any other projects, but I imagine sales will influence that

@Ivan
Hello, quick question - is the hardcover Version identical to the old PDF one - ruleswise?
That means, if I buy and like the Modiphious version, could I then buy and use some of the old expansions via WV and use them without problems?
Thanks and stay safe!

Cheers.
The new book is a new edition with a TON of new content.
Old expansions: newer ones will be compatible just fine, older ones will need work.

I am going to go through all of that stuff in the next weeks to evaluate, then it'll be available again with appropriate disclaimers (2e only / suitable for 3e whatever)

Until the Modiphius US store opens, the main effect this thread had on me is remind me I had plans for FiveLeagues, they got put off by some eye surgery, and I haven't paid attention to what was going on with the game since just before the pandemic became a big deal.

...so I took a look. And now Ivan gets more Wargames Vault money and a negligible amount of printing and binding materials have mysteriously vanished from the office.

I will write a more thorough post when I have a little more time, but wanted to share that our weekend with the game was amazing. My wife and I got in nine co-op sessions, and it was so refreshing and just fun.

We love RPGs, and tabletop miniatures are our passion, so a blend of both this satisfying is a real treat. It feels a lot like the love I had for Mordheim with its billion fan supplements, etc...

We can already tell we want more of everything, so lets hope chunky expansions make their way to print! Amazing work Ivan.

That's amazing! I think the strength of the game is it can be played solo or co-op but that it feels like a lite RPG - simple enough rules to let the story take centre stage but enough going on that you feel you can have unique characters.

We will be working on some cool follow-ups don't worry!

Still an ongoing project with no news.

Stocking and managing stock on more than one continent is no easy feat, even before the current viral impact to business.

We’ll be shouting from the rooftops when it happens no doubt.

Did this go to print in April as the OP mentioned? If so, when can we expect it on physical store shelves?

Yes. Fallout is internal to Modiphius and FPFH is and independent that they're publishing.

Fallout is very much trying to be more a traditional wargame played solo/co-op and they really only started to work on adding random missions like what FPFH adds and I do think they work but are a bit of chore to setup (though that's the game in general).

The RPG was underbaked though and I'm saying that as someone that likes it. But it's missing some important stuff that RPGs just need. Stealth for example is a glaring omission. It's technically in the game but it's just a perk that automatically makes enemies spot you at half range which is very lackluster for an RPG but is perfectly fine for a wargame.

Really looking forward to my hardcopy, and I have to say, eating the cost of shipping to already have mine ordered + have the pdf was totally worthwhile. Easily the best playing miniatures game in Modiphius' line-up.

We've played a ton, and even use it alongside Stars Without Number to procedurally generate weirder worlds as settings, etc. They fit together beautifully.

Not to sound obtuse but are you using the royal we? In all seriousness, the title of the thread refers to solo wargaming and I guess I assumed that's all this was as this thread is my only experience with the title. Is it just an option and they have "normal" multiplayer as well?

The royal "we" that is my wife, and I. :-p It can be true co-op, or solo.

I believe the PDF is currently a pre-order bonus for the phyisical book and then will go for general release after pre-orders ship. That's at least how Modiphius does it for most of their other games.

Yeah, they did that with the Star Trek RPGs as well iirc.

So, are the missions all randomly rolled? How do you determine what each enemy model does in combat? Is that random or are there flowcharts like in Rogue Trader for robots?

There's a pretty cool campaign system where you kind of have a basic story you're playing out and the combats are part of that (with there being one for each campaign turn). You can always choose a merc style mission but there are quest battles, rival battles, working for a patron that are available at certain times of the campaign. Basically everything is done with dice but you have story points that you can use to adjust outcomes (roll twice and take the one you like or re-roll a result you don't like but you have to take the second roll for examples).

How do you determine what each enemy model does in combat? Is that random or are there flowcharts like in Rogue Trader for robots?

The AI is really simple. Not much need for a flow chart. There's several different AI personality types (cautious, aggressive and lots of others) that determine some behavior like movement (and taking cover) but attacking is pretty much the same. Who's the easiest to hit after modifiers? and of those that are easy to hit who's the closest?

So you don't have, say, Fallout's level of AI complexity (where there should be flowcharts as the AI rules are a bit like a choose your adventure book sometimes) but at the same time you have a very simple system that moves a lot faster as you really only have to deal with keeping track of movement differences for models which does give you some variety due to some prioritizing cover while others will always rush the player. I've not played FPFH, just read through it a few times, but I think the AI fits for what they want the game to be which, to me, is a representation of a TV show episode or movie (where the enemies are actors behaving a certain way based off of their script) and fast/light as there's not round limits by default while Fallout is trying to replicate a Video Game experience (trying to react to how you're playing and what their objective is) and more action economy focused with tight round limits so choices matter more.

Thanks for the detailed rundown; I'm looking forward to check it out myself when it hits store shelves. I've never seen the Fallout rules either being new to solo play so don't have any frame of reference for them to judge the alternative by.

Ah, sorry about that. fallout uses more complex AI where each unit has it's own custom AI card that you use to randomly determine actions. The actions then have a flow chart flow of behavior (but without the flowchart, just a bulletpoint if/then order list in the rules). So if you're fighting against 10 completely different units would have 10 AI cards + reference rules for each action.

I bought the rulebook and spend a lot of time reading the PDF that comes along.
I already spend a good afternoon with my girlfriend roling up different teams, I would claim I got my moneys worth without even playing a single game.
The background is a bit vague, which is perfect for me as it allows a lot of story telling. The rules for the campaign look very fun, and the rules for fighting a battle seem simple enough to grasp them quickly.
Will leave my 2cts after playing a couple of rounds, but what I have seen up to now really wants me to recommend this game.

Even if you never actually play a game, you can generate some interesting stories from the system. If you devolve the combat phase down to some kind of dice roll to see if you win or lose, and if anyone on the crew catches something, then you can roar through your own adventure through space

Has there been any news (or delays) in the planned printing release? I know it said "shipping in May", are we still likely to see it for the start of June? I'm itching to play, but dislike pdfs till I've learnt the game.

My Painting Blog: http://gimgamgoo.com/
Currently most played: Silent Death, Xenos Rampant, Mars Code Aurora and Battletech.
I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - disliked both, but I'm enjoying HH2 and trying Battletech Classic and AS out

Yes. Just got an email about it today.

Hello there, we'd like to give you an update on your Five Parsecs From Home pre-order!

Our UK warehouse should receive the Five Parsecs stock at the end of this week and we expect pre-orders to start shipping globally in the first week of June, possibly sooner. Please allow plenty of time for delivery there’s a lot of orders to get through and shipments are still seeing some delays moving around the world.

The stock will be en route to the USA for distributors and retailers by early June. If you know people who are waiting on stock arriving in their local store, we expect stores to get their stock right at the end of June or more likely early July depending on customs and trucking within the US. The rest of the world retailers will also receive their stock at the same time as the US.

We’ll also be launching the Five Parsecs From Home PDF on DriveThruRPG and Modiphius.net at the end of next week if you have friends who'd prefer to check out the pdf first.

Check out the new homepage for Five Parsecs with bonus content for your game...!

Creator Ivan Sorensen has a new home page on the Modiphius.net site for Five Parsecs From Home. This will feature regular blogs including cool new content for you to use in your game, setting material on the universe and more. You can find the first Transmission there, with some great new encounters to try out, along with the official FAQ.
