Are we counting individual Epic infantry as five models per base? Because I'm sure I used to field more than one Great Company in 2nd edition Space Marine.

In 28mm, probably the Apocalypse-sized siege assault I played a few years ago; Ultramarines fighting their way down 8 feet of Wall of Martyrs defence lines to take out Lufgt Huron in the Fortress of Redemption. I can't remember how many points we played, but there were a couple of Knights, several tanks and a Thunderhawk Gunship in play, not to mention all the defence installations.

Funnily the largest army I fielded was not one I'd consider my "main". My chaos collection was more of a funsies thing just because my friends and I had a bunch of models floating around between us.

Dwarven thongs are a whole different topic... and probably not one suited for Dakka.

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.

Back in 2011 or so, I fielded 5000+ points of Genestealer Cult (ie, Guard painted as Brood Brothers with metal Hybrids for officers and "come the apocalypse" Genestealer allies and a Patriarch made from a Hive Tyrant that used Swarm Lord's rules). I had about 200 models on the table (and only 10 of them were tanks). It was glorious seeing that many fully painted models on the table.

If you're a masochist and want to see pics (and endure some awful HTML), I made a site for it back in the day. I wish I took better pictures back then

I think I still have that roster somewhere...

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

In 3rd Ed I had enough to do 30k points of Chaos. And Guard for that matter.

Did field most of that Chaos army in one giant battle.

For me it was roughly 4000pt of Chaos Space Marines vs 4000pt of Blood Angels in 6th. The BA player was VERY inexperienced but refused to play small points games (I usually played 1000-1500pt at the time) so had no idea what most of his units even did. I had a lot of sub-optimal units so he racked up a decent kill count but in the end it was an absolute bloodbath and we spent more time with our nose in his codex than actually gaming.

Since then I mostly played 1750/1850 but have never gone over 2k. I'd love to break out my legions in full one day but for now I'm happy procrastinating and painting.

Once in 7th edition, I put about 1750 points of Space Marines up against about 3750 points of Tyranids. It was really cool to see such a large swarm of 'nids and I kept thinking to myself "how come my sons army doesn't look this threatening when we play at home?"

The next day I realized the points total of the Tyranid player. When we had an even point rematch it was a very different game, haha.

I commonly field a little over 100 guardsmen per game. Been in a few big apoc games too. This one time we fielded 14 land raiders vs 1 warlord Titan. There was other stuff yeah but this dominated the field. Another time one side had 3 bane blades whilst the other had 10 Leman russes. Guess the most models from my own collection in one go has got to hit about 250 models and maybe 20 tanks. I usually find that the biggest hassle is the special weapons and deployment. Getting every model in the proper squad is a hassle.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

A friend and I used to often run 5-6000 point games back in 2nd edition. The largest was right before 3rd edition was due to drop - we just put together two forces using everything painted we could scrounge up between the two of us. I think it came to something like 26000 point in total, and took us two weeks to actually finish the game...

Two bids here.

When "New" plastic necrons were launched, local GW store ran Necrons v Rest. I filled the 6' side of the board with 2 monoliths, 200 warriors, 2 C'tan, 20 destroyers, 10 (converted) heavy destroyers, 50 scarab bases, 10 Lords, 5 Lords on destroyers, 200 immortals, 100 pariahs (I think). In those days warriors, immortals and destroyers were metal...

At WHW played my son: his Ultramarines v my Tyranids. Took all day. he fielded 150 odd marines couple of land raiders, 10 rhinos half a dozen land speeders, 100 odd terminators, 30 or so scouts. They were overrun. (game object was to see how long they could hold out). They were eaten by 10 Carnifex, 5 hive tyrants, 10 biovores, a trygon, and 200 each of genestealers, hormagaunts, gargoyles, termagants, 20 Zoanthropes, Tyrannofex, Swarm Lord, Old One Eye, Red Terror, 30 ravenors, and a Lictor
